Walking in Sunshine...

The heat of summer is upon us and we spent a lot of time trying to stay hydrated while sitting in a shady location...for us that meant lazing about in our wicker chairs on the front porch of The Humble Bungalow.

My current novel...which is the perfect summer read.

I wore this hat on my walk along the seafront in the heat of the day
there was not a whisper of wind.

The California Poppies seem to like it hot.

They do not get watered in this location they rely solely on precipitation.
They must be drought tolerant hardy plants to thrive at the edge of the shoreline.

Driftwood Shelter
a place to recline in the shade.

Behold a crudely made crib board !
It always amazes me what I see on my beach walks.

I expect to see shells, stones and kelp...
it is the unexpected items that are "out of place" that surprise me.

I made two loaves of bread...
the Bungalow smelled wonderful and the dough rises so much faster in the heat!
Mr. HB loves his great Nana's bread and this recipe has been in his family for several generations.

The roses are starting to wilt in the heat...
as am I!

This morning it feels a wee bit cooler and I am wearing a simple black bamboo tank style dress by Gilmour and some black flip flop sandals...
I let my hair "air dry" and plan to take it easy today.

I will buy a store bought BBQ chicken and some deli salads for dinner
I do not want to heat up the kitchen later in the day...

That's about it for now...
I'll post about our Sunday boat trip next time
until then

Have to say - those poppies are amazing!
We've had some hot, sticky days already as well here in Toronto but it's supposed to cool down a bit over the next couple of days - which will be a relief.
I'd also love the bread recipe!

Loving the golden yellow of those poppies. And the cribbage board is amazing! I would love to live so close to the beach, but since I do not thank you for taking us on your walks.
I buy roasted chickens at the market on really hot days, serve up with salads and it's the perfect dinner. Maybe a few asparagus briefly blanched and then chilled to accompany the salads... I have a great easy sauce that my friend Pat gave me last week too, a fake aioli: 1 cup olive oil, 1/2 cup lemon juice, tsp of yogurt and tsp of mayo with fresh herbs thrown in and lots of pepper and a bit of salt, perfect on cold roast chicken and asparagus. Perfect this time of year.
Stay cool and enjoy your evening. XOX

What masses of poppies. Your pictures, as always, are gorgeous. It's hot here too at the moment so trying to stay in the cool.

The poppies are so beautiful...I think they do better for you than they do in California. The bread looks yummy.

I like a good sun hat, and yours is very attractive. How beautiful are those California poppies, which I have never seen in real life. They are stunning. It does sound quite hot over there, if you are concerned about a hot kitchen. That is Summertime! And your beach walks look heavenly....

Love those poppies ...and your hat and homemade bread! Good bread is definitely a weakness of mine, served warm with butter. I could happily have a meal that consisted purely of homemade bread and butter:)
Summer seems to have finally arrived here too. There's something so relaxing about the feel of the warm sun and a gentle breeze on your skin. Not good for doing jobs around the house though, when it gets too warm!
Hope you're having a good week.

Absolutely love those poppies! Such a striking gold. Excited to read about your boating weekend. I have a group of clients who all have big Sea Rays up on Lake Erie and they are planning a trip starting in Erie up to Georgian Bay this summer. Sounds like fun! Though I will admit that the coastline and scenery on your boating trips is much more lovely than the lakeshore of Ohio :) Georgian Bay does look stunning though.

I think of my walks as opportunities to take photos for the blog and Instagram...your garden looks so much larger than mine so you must get lots of exercise maintaining it...love the garden statues and details that you have incorporated too!

I will post it soon...hope that you are keeping cooler.

Thank you Dani!
I tried that aioli on the asparagus last night!
Easy and yummy...we have leftovers too which might find their way to dress up the humble potato!

It is another hot one here too...staying hydrated and cool is my main goal today.

Thank you Pam!
I will share the bread recipe in a future post...and we are indeed having a heat wave!

Maybe they like all the rain we get during the fall and winter?
There is little precipitation forecast but they get the ocean breezes and occasionally a moist fog.

The colour of those poppies is quite bold...almost and apricot shade which makes them stand out against the rock wall...such a summery showing.

This hat has a strap under the chin which helps keep it on in the convertible and the wind...I try to keep my face out of the sun as much as possible...I burn so easily and with rosacea one needs to avoid it or suffer the consequences.

Bread and butter and a smidgeon of jam...is a wee bit of heaven on earth!
I have been slowly actioning the domestics here...it is far too hot for strenuous chores!
Hope your weather has improved too...

Friends with Big SeaRays would be fun! I can see you in the galley whipping up some tasty treats as they have much more mod cons than our wee boat
I have seen pictures from Georgian Bay and it looks divine...hope you get an invitation to join them.
We see them here too...and wow they are seriously expensive!

Hi there, it's been a while since I've been able to catch up on blogs. I really love reading your blog and looking at your photos. I just finished up reading The Vacationers. It was a great book! I thought the characters were so relatable!

Happy to have introduced you to these flowers Dottoressa!
They are quite lovely especially when they are in such abundance.

I just popped over to read your review of the book on your blog...I see that we read and enjoy some of the same blogs. I am reading Fiona's new book right now!

Wow, I'm not a yellow flower (except roses ) person; but those poppies are stunning!
You're very ambitious to make your bread from scratch. I have never done that. I just use my bread maker.
I'm still trying to perfect Finnish coffee bread, Pullla in it. It doesn't look authentic when it isn't braided; but it tastes divine.

Oh, those poppies! Loving life in western New York now, but I do miss my California poppies. Seeing these in Canada made me smile.
