Talking about Lipstick...

After reading Janet's blog about her cleaning up her laundry room by choosing ecological green cleaning products I got to thinking about the products that I use in our bungalow and especially those that I use on my body.

I have edited the cosmetics that I use.
Disposing of those items past their suggested best by dates and I have been researching healthier options.

Jane Iredale is a mineral based cosmetic company that is sold locally in spas.
Jane's variety of products are available for young and mature skin types.
I have been using her mascara and foundation for about 2 years.

Until recently the lipsticks I used were usually purchased from the local drug store.
I chose the lipsticks based on their moisture delivering properties and the shades that suited my complexion.

The proximity of lipstick on my lips,
when drinking and eating
made me reconsider my brand of lip products
and the ingredients used to make them.
I decided that it was high time that I should be more mindful and opt for a safer, healthier choice.

Jane Iredale Mineral Make Up has quite a good reputation.
Many women use and enjoy her products and share reviews online.

Jennifer Connolly from A Well Styled Life has written about Jane's products.

"Just Kissed Lip Plumper "
I am wearing the shade Tokyo which is a great everyday colour.
Mint and ginger are the ingredients that plump up the lips.
Super moisturizing with ingredients Shea butter, sunflower oil and aloe vera.

Pretty packaging
Purchased at a local Spa
$31.50

More expensive than many drugstore brands
but not as much as a designer brand.

I also read that Burt's Bees has a new 100% natural lipstick which has been getting lots of press.

Purchased at the pharmacy for $9.99
it is available in 14 shades.
This shade is called "Brimming Berry"

The Burt's Bees website offers this information...
"Features naturally moisturizing ingredients such as Beeswax, Moringa Oil, Raspberry Seed Oil, and Vitamin E"

At this price one could have several tubes.

I like both of these lipsticks...
both feel great on and are loaded with moisture and feel natural.
So here you have a higher priced and a lower priced option...
it's up to you to choose!

I decided to get my salt and pepper hair
cropped into a short cut on my last appointment.

It is an easy care summer style and one that requires a bit of mousse and can be air dried which is perfect for our holidays aboard our Sea Ray.

Keeping and maintaining things as simple as possible is my goal...
the time saved means more time for leisure pursuits!

I thought you might enjoy seeing our
Rich red David Austin Rose William Shakespeare
I have been busy dead heading this rose and brought a few inside Our Humble Bungalow to add a lovely fragrance to our main bathroom.

Hope you have a great week.

Honey Bee you won the scarf giveaway so please email me with your mailing address and I will pop it in the post!

Your hair looks fabulous Hostess, and the lip color is very nice!

I love your new hair, Hostess. You look, if you'll pardon the expression, younger! Love the glasses, too!

Great hairstyle for your wavy hair and active lifestyle. I must say that I envy your decision to adopt your natural hair color. I am not there yet, but have been exploring shorter styles in anticipation of letting my "blonde" grow out.

Your hair is adorable! The lipstick looks great also. I found the Jane Iredale foundation too dry looking on my skin. Your roses!!!!!!!!! Love each and every one.

You really suit your new, short hairstyle Leslie ... Very chic! By the smile, I guess you're pleased with it too! An extra bonus, that it's quick and easy to style. Perfect for holidays, especially in the hot weather.

Thank you so much Sue!

Younger! Why thank you ...That is music to my ears...
the glasses are new and I opted for a lighter thinner frame this time as the last two pairs were quite "masculine" in style.

I decided before retiring that my cut and colour every 6 weeks was going to really be an extravagance that would really be too expensive on my pension...hence going au natural made the most sense.

Merci beaucoup!

Thank you Barb...it is super easy to work with too which is a bonus. My stylist is so clever...she really knows her craft.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Thank you Sandy...have you tried The Iredale Dream Tint? It is like a BB cream and the results are very dewy.

Rosie it is as short as I have ever dared to go...so it was a nice surprise when I came home from the salon and Mr. HB looked at me and said "you got your hair cut short, that's lovely!"

I love your new haircut! Absolutely love it. It really brings your eyes out. At my old salon we used Jane Iredale and it was very popular. I liked the lip moisturizer.

You look adorable. I'd love to have my hair au natural, but my grey isn't even and I look like skunk!

I really like your new cut! I'm tempted to go shorter myself. You are right about chemicals. I have not been wearing much makeup but I will try the Jane Iredale from our local dayspa.

Love the haircut - it is perfect for the summer.
I've been meaning to try one of the Burt's Bees lipsticks - will have a look at the colour options later this week.
Roses are amazing - what a gorgeous deep colour!

Lovely - your hair, your glasses, your complexion and your radiance from happiness.

I have been thinking along the same lines re the lipstick so may follow you. Your new haircut looks fabulous on you and so easy to care for it will be great during the hot weather. Those roses are just a fabulous colour and I expect the smell is equally fabulous.

I do enjoy your makeup and skin care posts - always very informative. I have to comment on your skin; it's just beautiful! Do you mind sharing your latest skin care routine with us ? Your skin really is lovely.

What a fun post...a little something for everyone. I a going to check out the Burt Bee's lipstick, it sounds kind of interesting. I usually use Clinique.

Funny, you had you hair cut for summer and I have let mine grow a little longer so I can just manage a french braid...much better for me for the summer heat and the gym.

Patricia said...

Oh, what a chic new hair style, very French, and looks very elegant on you. Your new spectacles are also very nice. I have never heard of Jane Iredale and am looking to see if it is available in Australia. Do you know if it is Paraben-free? The roses look wonderful, a gorgeous shade of red. I can only imagine how beautiful the scent.

You look so lovely!
Hair,lipstick,glases,complexion,happiness- so cute!
I have bought JI compact powder for travel this spring and like it (although I prefer loose powder at home).
From last year I try to replace all potentially alergenic stuff for health and environment friendly
Roses-what can I say?
Gorgeous!

Adore the new cut -- very modern looking! One of the things I love about short hair is that it's surprisingly easy to play around with different styles: spiky, smooth and sleek, or just kind of fuzzy/messy. I am sure it will suit your lifestyle.

Constantly on the search for the perfect lipshade in the perfect formula, one I can make my own signature and toss all the others.......not there yet.

Really like the haircut. I especially like the second lipstick color on you.

Your new hairstyle really suits you, Leslie!
I use those Jane Iredale lipsticks too, in Tokyo, L.A, and Montreal. I also love the Jane Iredale Lip Fixation.

Fabulous hair and lipstick! Great that her products are cruelty free which for me is a priority.

Love the cropped hair - but then, I would, as I have very short hair in much that style! And I'm more grey, too, as I'm a decade your senior. Love the shades of your lipsticks, also those gorgeous roses.

I'm playing an old record here judging from the comments that have poured in but I didn't want to hold back in saying that you are looking fabulous. That haircut is just perfect, your specs suit you perfectly and your perfect skin makes for a prettily perfect hat trick. Keep on doing what your doing. Wow!

Pondside said...

Well I can attest to the fact that the haircut is great!! Very 'gamine'!
I have been having the same thoughts about my cosmetic choices, so I thank you for doing the research.
Lovely to get together for that walk today!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Thank you Lisa...my hairdresser called it "gamine."

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Thank you Linda...

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Oh my Stephen that is high praise coming from you as you are in the business!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

I don't know if you can purchase either of these lines in Australia...they are both very "clean" products. I followed you on your recent trip on your IG page...looks like you had fun!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Be patient and in time your hair will even out...it took me awhile and you can always have highlights to help you go through the waiting period.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

If you have great skin like you do Madame, you do not need to wear foundation...I use it to cover up some redness that rosacea causes.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Thank you Marla...

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

I hope to keep my hair short for awhile...I like a change now and again...good luck with the lipstick shopping.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Merci beaucoup.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

It will be so nice not to use the blow dryer in the heat of summer...the roses are incredibly fragrant...and they last a long time in a vase.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Thank you Patricia...my skin is starting to show it's age but at 61 one expects this...as it is all part of aging.
I am using the Eminence line, age correcting exfoliating coconut cleanser and the neroli eye serum and the coconut age correcting cream...Jane Iredale foundation.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Oh a french braid sounds really chic and great for when you are working in the garden or house...I see that you are redoing your living room! How exciting!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Jane Iredale is paraben free...
they have a great website that lists all the ingredients and products.
I do not know if they ship to Australia or if there are shops that sell them...here they are a spa exclusive or available online.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

I use the compact Jane Iredale foundation...I have not tried her loose powder.
I hope that more cosmetic companies will consider using less toxic more environmentally friendly ingredients so that we can all be healthier.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Good luck finding your perfect lipstick! There must be one out there for you.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

The second shade is richer, deeper and a wee bit bold.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

They really feel good on...loads of moisture and they last too.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

The lipstick looks great on you, but beware of mint. It is irritating to skin. I don't know why so many cosmetic companies put irritating ingredients in, but they do.

leslie your new haircut is just so fabulous. you look beautiful! i'm loving all the jane iredale too. it is highly rated with the EWG so it's nice knowing it is not only pretty but safe and good for your skin too. they have a new pallete out that you might want to check out. it's all matte colors, browns and creams. it is gorgeous!
