Thirty Chic Days by Fiona Ferris and a Hostess Giveaway...

Do you love to wear scarves?
I do...but I opt for lighter weight ones in silk or linen for summer.
They are perfect on a cloudy or rainy day when I step out of the house to run some errands or go for my walk. Scarves so effortlessly add a little splash of colour and dress up the casual outfits that I wear at home or about in our neighbourhood.

I recently picked up a pretty raw silk scarf imported from India at The Bungalow card and gift shop on Estevan Avenue in Oak Bay.

It is a versatile long lightweight raw silk scarf with a fringe at the ends.
Soothing Sea colours for summer
you could tie this around the brim of your sun hat
or wrap it around your shoulders...
it looks great with denim too.

I finished reading blogger and author Fiona Ferris' new book
Thirty Chic Days Practical Inspiration For a Beautiful Life.
It is a lovely book chock full of great ideas and simple ways to add luxury to your every day round.
She has written a great guide book for women of all ages...
I picked up a few new tips and you might too.
Thank you again Fiona for sending me your book!

To enter the giveaway please leave me a comment and tell me what makes you feel chic.

The giveaway will close on midnight PST Saturday June 18th.

I will announce the winner on Sunday June 19th.

~ Good Luck ~
Hope that you have a fabulous week.

What makes me feel "chic" is a thoughtful, intelligent - and often mirthful - conversation with any of my small coterie of exceptional, and exceptionally-cherished, friends. My focus is restored, my spirit is burnished, and so is all the rest of me.

A new pair of shoes often makes me feel chic. So does a lovely scarf and your new one is a beauty, love the colors.

What a lovely giveaway! I'm not sure that I've ever felt chic, but perhaps come closest when I have a luxurious bath, using one of my favourite bars of soap from Lush.

So delighted when I learned Fiona had published this book.
A time I feel chic is enjoying coffee in a special café with hubby or a friend:) Thank you hostess always enjoy your blog! Cheers from Rita T.

I felt chic the other day as I arrived at a retirement party for a coworker and my friend greeted me with "Hi Audrey Hepburn!" To have my effort to look nice get a compliment like that was a thrill. Always loved Audrey's elegant gamine looks and more importantly her gorgeous heart for people.

Oh, chic..... My sister is chic and my sister-in-law is chic, but they are just as different as they can be. The definition to me goes much further than appearances (Audrey Hepburn is the ultimate, in my book) and extends to character. Gracious, elegant, accepting, comforting, encouraging. I would hope to possess those attributes. Always love your posts, and especially love that beautiful blue scarf. ;-)

I feel chic when sipping a latte and nibbling on a piece of vey good dark chocolate, preferably a truffle. Reading a book about France at the same time provides double points! That scarf is beautiful; I love the colors.

I'm so glad you enjoyed my book, Leslie! That scarf is beautiful, the colours!

Having dry, red eyes and rubbing your contacts off your eyes is not very chic. I recently splurged on prescription sunglasses but in a unique Jackie O style. I feel so chic in them. Goodbye contacts!

My large straw sun hat and dark glasses are about as chic as I ever get😉

Love your new scarf-wonderful colours!

I feel chic when I'm taking good care of myself--eating well, exercising, enjoying time with friends, and dressing in my most flattering clothing. (And your blog and Fiona's help inspire me to do these things!)

I'm not sure if I ever feel chic, actually. I think I need to work on that. Your pictures are stunning. And that scarf is just beautiful. I think I could feel chic wearing that scarf.

Love the colors of that scarf. I recently attended a late afternoon wedding and carried a shimmery taupe scarf for a wrap that looked quite chic with my vintage evening bag.

It may be basic but nothing makes me feel chic like a new pair of skinny dark wash jeans. They freshen up any outfit and make my old boring shirts looks fabulous again.

I feel chic when I wear a nice pair of jeans and my favorite top.

The colors in your new scarf are my favorites! I feel chic whenever I wear a scarf -- winter or summer!

I feel chic when I am wearing a dress - casual - dressy - it does not matter. I find dressing well makes me feel terrific and energized. Love your blog. Your posts are relaxed and personal. I look forward to seeing the next one.

I agree with Elizabeth. I feel chic when I dress well.
I don't wear scarves often, and I never wear my Hermes 90cm's...too much fabric.
I love my jewellery way too much to hide it with a scarf. lol.

I feel chic on a hot day strolling along a beach in a cool linen Kaftan and stylish sunglasses ...rather than my usual shorts and t shirt! :)

Currently Butter London "Lucky" lipstick - so lush and yummy and "Mums the Word" nail polish - divine simplicity - give me a boost. However, being kind and gracious always - and especially when I don't feel like it - does it for me all day, every day. Great scarf!

Not sure that I've ever felt truly chic - but I think I get closest when I wear new, dark jeans, a crisp white tunic shirt, my black ballet flats along with gold hoop earrings and a scarf - I've come to love my scarves and my vintage hermes has just the right colours to complete this simple outfit - OH - and my bright red Chanel lipstick. I feel good in this combination, just the right combination of comfort (in the sense that I don't have to fuss about any part of it) and dressy enough for almost anywhere these days. I also read Fions'a blog - so pleased for her on the publication of her book.

There are very few times in my life that I have felt chic. The times I have felt chic are when I am wearing either my vintage dressing gown or my vintage kimono. I savour those times.

Nice to see you continuing to bring colour into your wardrobe. The scarf is very you. Well wear. As for a guide to being chic? Can't imagine a whole book about that. Chic is so often incorrectly used mais chacqun a son gout! Eleanor

Gosh that isn't a word I've ever applied to myself. I would say it's when I have on an outfit that I know is just right and it makes me feel beautiful and confident. And it is often these days since I cleared out all my clothes that belonged to a wishful/pretend me, And now it is so easy to put on something that is just right.

I surprised myself by having a good time at the beach. I had my "polar plunge" shortly after we arrived and then warmed up in the indoor pool. Unfortunately the sea was at its roughest that afternoon so I couldn't swim

Gorgeous scarf!! I feel chic when I pay attention to the small details which make such a large difference. Adding fragrance, having a tidy handbag and ensuring my outfit looks polished.

I feel chic with such a little touch - the floral fragrance from my hand cream or a spritz of gardenia lotion on my neck.

Sunglasses, lipstick and a calm attitude. Also music, books and preparing a healthy simple meal will do it for me!

Your new scarf is lovely, Hostess. The views are stunningly beautiful.

What makes me feel chic is a stylish outfit that fits very well, usually with pearls and a flowing scarf, a touch of Mademoiselle Coco cologne, and a fresh, but soft, colour on my lips. And, of course, a smile and a happy heart.

Your blog adds to my happiness! Thank you.

Oh boy. I have two modes. With Robbie which is usually make up, better looking and without Robbie which is usually jeans, no make up. With Robbie is a lot better...lol. I really should make more of an effort. But I must say that my long French bangs, when freshly washed and blown dry, make me look and feel extremely chic. :D

Thank you for this opportunity, Hostess. Like so many of your viewers, I struggle with chic. It's certainly not a word I would use to describe myself, which is sad, because I so admire it when I see it in other women. To me, chic has a lot to do with hair (styled, glossy, with some movement), so my growing out, straggly bob misses by a long shot. Coping with a recent lay-off, I miss my office clothes. I feel most chic in a dress and heels, but seldom have an appropriate event on my calendar. Perhaps I am also being let down by my shoes. My office pumps aren't sturdy enough for daily chores, and my casual sneaks, espadrilles and walking shoes look awful with a skirt. Hmmm. Thank you for this moment of self-reflection. I've gotten more from this than even from Fiona's current 30 Chic Days series. Merci!

Has anyone mentioned scent? I feel chic when wearing my favourite scents ... Hermes' Caleche, Hermes' 24 Rue Faubourg, Chanel's No 19, O de Lancôme, Mitsuko, or Acqua di Parmsa's rose eau de toilette. Sadly, none of those are produced here in the UK, but I do like some English scents, too: some by the Cotswold Perfumery, some by Penhaligon's or Floris, but none are quite as chic as Caleche or Chanel 19.

So glad you agree, smelling lovely is essential to me. I once sat in the back of the car with a woman in front of me (we were taking her somewhere) and all I could smell was her unwashed hair. The memory has stuck with me for years, whereas my dear, elderly mother (who died in 2000 aged almost 88) always smelt wonderful, she always showered each day and wore lovely perfume. Her favourite soap was a French lavender soap and even her grandsons (our sons) said how Gran's bathroom slept lovely.
