March ~ Birthday and some other tidbits....

Tulip Mania has begun with a bold red and yellow bunch!

Such great mood lifters on a grey winter's day.
I love to buy these cheerful blooms...
deciding which colours to choose is always a challenge!

I had my birthday yesterday March 3rd.
I turned 69 and don't feel OLD.

My new glasses are Face a Face from Paris.
I had my former pair for 6 years and when my prescription changed I decided it was time for a new pair of glasses and sunglasses.

Vintage rhinestone brooch pinned on my wool beret.

My beret is made by The Canadian Hat Company.
Decades old Burberry scarf
Eileen Fisher Coat

Still having FUN and playing around with clothes and my personal take on style.

Been very lucky at the Thrift Shops lately...

Gold bracelet

I don't have anything like this in my jewel box and thought it might be fun.

Heavy crystal etched vase, possibly Swedish.

Perfect for wee flowers.
Snowdrops are what come to mind.

I love to hunt for sea glass on my beach walks.
On my birthday beach walk
I found a lovely piece of aqua glass just as I stepped on the beach!

Aquamarine is the March birthstone
so I thought it an appropriate find.

The sunset was quite remarkable the other evening...
looks like The Danish Flag hanging over Salt Spring Island.

Perhaps my ancestors waving hello?

Our family tree goes way back...
to a former Queen and King of Denmark.
So many interesting names along with that incredible detailed history.

Sabine Be sunglasses...
Mom had macular degeneration so my eye doctor advised me to wear sunglasses.
I need to remember to wear them regularly.

Treated myself to a new candle and some dark chocolate bars.

I recently read that dark chocolate is full of good polyphenols
which help with inflammation, digestion, cognitive function, and protect cardiovascular health.

Adding a couple of squares with my afternoon tea seems pretty easy!
Been eating more avocados on sourdough toast...
they are nutrient rich and high in fibre.

After my colonoscopy the doctor told me that he removed 3 polyps.
(I watched the entire procedure on the screen)
He also mentioned to keep my diet rich in fibre as it has many benefits.

Staying on top of one's health is a priority.
Healthy habits and being mindful of stress and toxins in the environment are so important.

What is new with you?
How are you managing the aging process?

I really like your glasses and your sunglasses. It is so important to care for ourselves as we get older. My doctor ordered a bone density scan for me. I’ve never had one before. You have been very lucky with your finds. I’m still thinking about the Quimper tea set at Good Things. My friend is going over tomorrow so she is always happy to pick things up for me. I would be in trouble if I lived in Victoria. I always see things on Kay’s Corner Instagram. Monsieur B would go crazy.

I LOVE your new glasses and sunglasses, Leslie - they totally suit you and the bold shapes really add zing to your classic style. You are adorable in the beret - love the vintage brooch.

Happy Birthday! Sounds like you had a lovely time.

I have a bracelet like that - it was my Mom's from the early 70s. Stay warm, spring is on the way! Thanks for all the lovely tulip pictures.

Hi Leslie,
Another super blog post and congratulations on your recent birthday. I am turning 72 shortly, and have an appointment with the'Elder Health Team' at our local hospital. They said to allow a good hour for this... We have just returned from visiting our family with 3 year old twins in Australia. We helped celebrate their birthday and our 40 Wedding Anniversary on the same day! We have much to be thankful for. Autumn has arrived, so soon it will be time to light candles and enjoy the cooler months. Colleen

Belated Happy Birthday, dear Leslie! I wonder if anyone really feels their age. My father will be 90 next month and he says he doesn't feel old yet. It's our bodies that age, and that can be hard sometimes. Taking care of myself is something I try to do - regular exercise, a healthy diet (with a few treats), taking care of my health, engaging socially, and having a positive mindset are the ways I cope.

Your tulips are bright and beautiful! Sea glass is so much fun to find. Have a wonderful week.

Oh sweetie, you are just a baby!! I turned 90 this year and I still feel like I have some years left in me. Take good care of yourself... I had colon cancer over 20 years ago. Believe me, it's not fun! so, eat fiber, take fiber gummies or anything to get that fiber in you. and, if you follow me you know I had breast cancer last year. Did my radiation and even though it was much easier, it set me back on my heels. So, take good care and keep posting those great posts. I love them.

Susan ~ I hope you find some cute new glasses...seeing clearer comes at a price but it is so worth it!!!

Madame La-Bas ~ Oh I hope that Quimper set is still available...let me know if you get it! I am on a wait list for a bone density test too...good that we are able to take advantage of these procedures. If you ever need me to go to Kay's and pick something up just let me know.

Sheila ~ The glasses are definitely fun...I look in the mirror and am surprised it is me staring back!!
Birthday celebrations seem to be longer now that I am retired...they last about a week or so...lunches, teas, brunches and dinners out! I quite like all the festivities!!

Colleen ~ That elder appointment sounds quite thorough...good to be mindful of our health and have these exams regularly. Happy Anniversary! Three year old twin grandchildren must be fun! Take care.

Lorrie ~ I read about your recent hike and the vintage thermos...those old ones are perfect for tea.
It is cold here today and we had a snow flurry on the beach walk...I did find a handful of sea glass though so it was fruitful despite the chilly air.

Latane ~ I am going to add more fibre...I was not aware of your colon cancer...you must have had good treatments. Happy 90th birthday!! I am impressed by your blog :-)) Have fun and take care.

Laura ~ Thank you for those birthday greetings!

Jeannine ~ Belated greetings are perfect! The birthday lasts longer that way :-))

Linda T ~ I am not good at judging people's ages...52 sounds young to me now!!! The beret gets lots of wear right now as we had some snow flurries...BRRR

Anonymous ~ Chocolate and avocado toast for the WIN!!! The beret is warm and keeps my hair from flying in my face when I walk...we had some snow today!!!

Happy Birthday dear Leslie. You are looking very fresh and young, and clearly look after yourself very well indeed. I love the good news about dark chocolate, and may well take it up as an afternoon treat. Your new glasses are gorgeous, very chic and lovely with the beret and rhinestones. You stayed awake during a colonoscopy! I have never heard of anyone doing that. Bad luck re the 3 polyps. Mine is due next month, and they usually find 2-3, so I have to keep being tested. My mother had colon cancer late in life. The Australian Government does not 'suggest' these health checks after age 75, but many of us keep on with it, and why not, particularly if there is family history. Enjoy the tulips, Spring is one the way.

Hello Leslie, many happy returns. I have been following you for about 6 years now and your blogs are so interesting. Our health service in the U K is just awful. We have long waiting lists for treatments, evan for urgent cancer treatment. You look fabulous in your new specs, they really suit you and your hair looks really pretty too.
Thank you for sharing your interesting life with us.

Happy Birthday Leslie! Your new glasses look great. Nice to have a change of frames after time. Although your other frames looked great also. You look radiant in every picture. I've never heard of anyone staying awake for a colonoscopy. I always get knocked out - the Specialists preference. Though I think I'd opt for the nap anyway, had I the option. Currently recovering from concussion. I managed to scone myself while working in the garden. We we were all slowly recovering from Covid and I was a bit slow off the mark paying attention. Thoughts elsewhere. I always enjoy your posts. Promising myself a new rose - 'Lark Acending' - once I'm able to drive again. Best wishes.

Happy Belated Birthday to you ! I also turned 69 this March...and I am grateful for every year as aging is a gift not granted to all. Good for you for keeping up with your health and check ups. After my husband's heat attack we try to eat very healthy...and failed at that on a recent road trip for my birthday, so now we are back on our food plan. Kudos for the colonoscopy...I need to go every 2-3 years due to the same issues and a family history. My father died at age 60 from colon cancer...before there was a test that we are blessed to have. Wishing you a fabulous year as we both approach 70 !!!!!

Patricia ~ Thank you for the birthday greetings...the polyps were removed and they did the pathology which showed that they were pre cancerous...it is good to remove them before. they become cancer. I think I will be monitored regularly for them like you. Hope your colonoscopy goes well. Take care XO

Susan Lee ~ Nice to hear from you and am glad that you enjoy my little blog!
Our healthcare service in Canada is undergoing quite a lot of troubles...lack of nurses and doctors make for incredibly long waits for tests and regular check ups...hospitals are overloaded and the Emergency Rooms in our city regularly have 8 hour waits. It is very challenging and quite stressful.
Sounds like your UK system is overloaded as well.

Kathy P ~ I had a light sedation and many people opt to skip it altogether!!! It was my first colonoscopy so i did not know what to expect...it was quite simple but the preparation was a wee bit unpleasant :-)) Lark Ascending is a familiar rose name but I don't think I have seen it. Hope you are feeling better concussion is not an easy thing to get over...take care.

Ann ~ Happy Birthday!!! We are both 69 and on the road to 70. A milestone for sure and like you I am so grateful to be here...still having fun and enjoying family and friends. Keep up with your healthy food journey!
