One step at a time...
Walking in comfortable sneakers is my idea of luxury!
These New Balance shoes are unbelievable!
I think its the memory foam...
I finally broke down and bought a Fitbit.
I opted for the new model Inspire HR.
So many women I know love them and say that they really help motivate them
to walk longer, farther and to stay active.
They also record sleep,
the length of time slept,
the sleep stages...
awake, REM, light and deep.
You can track weight, water, heart rate, calories, steps, kms walked or run.
I've noticed that I am more mindful since wearing mine.
I'm going to track my weight too and see if there is any change.
The weather has been wonderful this weekend and I spent quite a few hours outside pulling weeds and deadheading the roses.
Marigold the Mouse designed and created by the talented artist Robyn
is enjoying the Climber Royal Sunset.
Its a fragrant frothy rose that grows up on a trellis on our deck overlooking the back garden.
Arugula, red onions, strawberries and goat cheese salad.
a light vinaigrette dressing and lunch is served!
Lunch out with Mr. HB at a new waterfront bistro
Boom and Batton
Mega yachts
a tasty salad and a glass of wine
Reading this humorous book by Olivier Magny.
I think I may have been to his wine bar in Paris when I was there on tour in 2015.
We went to a tasting in a cavern that looks exactly like the pictures online and he must have been the sommelier who led the tasting as he looks the same!
He's written other books which I might buy:
Into Wine: An invitation to Pleasure
WTF? What the French
How was your weekend?
What are you reading?
Do you wear a Fitbit?
Has it been a game changer for your fitness regime?
Have you had difficulty leaving comments on my blog?
I have had a few readers email saying that they cannot comment anymore and I have no idea what is wrong as I have changed nothing!
Try Bloglovin where I also have the blog listed on their platform.
I've got to close for now as I am having guests for dinner tonight and need to prepare a few more dishes.
Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

Thank you for the information about your Fitbit. I keep considering getting one as I would enjoy tracking my steps. But I like to wear jewelry and the Contemporary styling of the Fitbit does not work with what I wear.
Your roses are absolutely beautiful!
I just bought a new pair of black running shoes (athleisure) too. I could feel the pebbles on the dyke with my other walking shoes. I binge read Before We Were Yours and The Daughter's Tale this week-end. You would enjoy both of them. For a change of pace, I'm reading a Jeffrey Archer book Heads You Win right now. Do you have Hoopla through your library? I get 8 free items through mine and I'm watching the Donna Leon Inspector Brunetti series. It's charming, set in Venice with German audio and English subtitles. Will you be visiting Venice?
Yum! The salads look wonderful. I have been on a winning streak with book selections lately. I can recommend The Painted Girls by Catherine Marie Buchanan, The Gown by Jennifer Robson, and Free Food for Millionaires by Min Jin Lee. The first book examines sisterly bonds, The "petite rats" of the Paris Opera in the 1800's, the artist Degas and 3 murders. Sounds like a tall order, but the author blends these elements beautifully. The second book explores the women who embroidered Queen Elizabeth's wedding gown. It was enjoyable, although not as complex as my first recommendation. I adored the novel "Pachinko" by Min Jin Lee, so I decided to read her backlist. I adore how this books explores the immigrant community experience in a fairly contemporary NYC. The characters are well rounded and compelling. If you read any of these, I'd love to hear if you liked them.
Your roses are spectacular!
The walking shoes (and the salads!) look great -can you share the model of New Balance you bought?
Many thanks.
I understand your reluctance to interfere with your classic jewelry choices. I am sure there are other trackers available that would be effective and worn in a different location.
Thank you! We put a lot of time and effort into our garden. It’s nice to look at and we take pleasure in that too! 💐
Before we were yours is on my list too! I am not sure if we have Hoopla at the library...will have to check next time I go.
We are not going to Venice, Rome and a walled village and the surrounding area in Tuscany.
Your weekend reading sounds relaxing!
The Painted Girls and The Gown are on my list too! It’s wonderful that there are so many great books out there just waiting to be read!!
On a tag inside the shoe...WXNRGSK on the outside Fuel Core Energize. Hope that helps!
I am one of the people that have difficulty leaving comments on your blog, and I think I have figured out why. I thought I'd share this for some of your followers that are also having trouble. I have a Mac computer and it's been since I updated to Mojave that I haven't been able to comment on any blogs. Apparently Mojave made changes to its internet browser Safari that resulted in this problem. The only way I've been able to leave comments is to access the blog through Internet Explorer on a different computer. Since Internet Explorer is a browser I don't care to use, it makes leaving comments more complicated. Apparently there are some settings that can be changed in Safari to get around this, but I haven't figured that out yet. When I do I'll share the information. Hope this helps.
Really enjoy your blog! I'm 61 and have lost most of my belly fat recently without trying, didn't watch calories or portion size. Just cut out almost all sugar and wheat products, and most processed foods. I also recommend the book, How to Make Disease Disappear by Dr. Rangan Chatterjee.
I'm sleeping better bc of recommendations in his book.
For what it's worth, I am not able to comment on your blog if I'm using my iPhone. It's fine, if I use my laptop. I really like the look of your new shoes - I like the black throughout. I'm tired of the white edges on the soles of so many walking/running shoes. I do not have a Fit Bit. I have felt like it would just make me feel pressured and I pressure myself enough as a general rule. I can see how it could motivate you, though - maybe give you a needed push. And yes, I probably need a push! Marigold is adorable.
I was just about to ask for the model name for those shoes as well! Thank you.
Dear Leslie--I love your post! Yes, we did attend a wine tasting/lecture at Olivier's wine bar during our Oooh La La! Paris Tour in 2015!!! (And I'm so glad you now have a Fitbit. I've had one since 2016 and it's been a life-changer! Love you, Jamie
Love your NB shoes. I've been debating a FitBit, but I don't want to wear it while sleeping...does it come off easily? Your roses are gorgeous!
Look at you embracing summer with new shoes, Fitbit, great diet, good books and roses. Honestly love your blog and the posts on "little things". They are truly the magic of life. Currently reading a Harlan Coben book, Long Lost. Fabulous! I just discovered this author with the book Run Away as recommended be Michael J Fox and Amy Pollan on IG. Both books are a great escape into a quick summer thriller. Two thumbs up on these to make current events go away. xx-holly
Oh that’s really interesting Kathy. I wonder if Blogger is working on fixing the glitch? Look forward to hearing more from you.
Thank you 🙏🏻
I have been avoiding carbs as much as possible and do not have a sweet tooth but I enjoy wine. Sounds like a great book too!!
Avoid pressure for sure...I don’t feel pressured with the Fitbit because I am already committed to getting and staying fit.
I just wanted a more accurate way of tracking my steps.
Marigold is so sweet I look at her and my heart melts ❤️
Oh great Margie! Hope you like them.
I thought that’s where we went! I am so enjoying his book! That’s great that we are Fitbit Friends! I hope to wear mine in Europe when I travel.
Your peony picture today on Instagram is gorgeous! 💕💕
It is easy to put on and take off. And if you get the Inspire HR you can wear it in the water when you do your laps! It’s good for depths of 50 metres.
Thank you Holly!
Getting into a great book especially one that hooks right from the first page is a wonderful way to escape! I am going to check out Harlan Coben as soon as I post this comment.
I enjoy wine also, haven't given that up. Unfortunately it disturbs my sleep, so try to have it after lunch instead of after dinner.
Thanks for finally writing about >"Trying harder to budge the winter weight gain...shoes, salads and a Fitbit" <Liked it!
