Cozying up at Quarter Deck Cottage

With all the chaos is going on in our world these days I decided that a quiet post was in order...

Quarter Deck Cottage...
a cozy place where there is ample opportunity for reflection...
time for daily walks exploring the local beaches and country roads
a place to quietly sit and read our books
watch the ferries pass by
and to cocoon and relax.

A welcome respite in these troubled times...

Salish Sea shimmering in the sunshine.

Autumn foliage

Quarter Deck Cottage

Welcome Bay
a beach walk not far from historic Hope Bay on Pender Island.

Someone has been busy making a driftwood shelter.

The view from the living room of the cottage.
Ferries come and go and we watch as they pass by on The Salish Sea.

This larger ferry in the distance is one of several that carry cars and passengers from Swartz Bay To Tsawwassen on the lower mainland.

The smaller ferries service the Gulf Islands of
Pender, Mayne and Galiano.

It is Cozy inside the cottage...
a gas fireplace and in floor heating really make a difference
as there is an autumnal chill in the evening.

Arbutus trees are now shedding their bark...

A pod of orcas swam by this morning...
there must have been a dozen of them.
It was difficult trying to capture a picture of their fins
you can just glimpse a small tip of one fin in this snapshot.

Sunset last night watched from the deck outside...

Life takes on a gentler rhythm at the cottage.
Grateful for this place of peace.

I can just feel the stress melt away looking at your pictures. What a lovely retreat you have. The autumn foliage on that tree seems to glow.

Your Quarter Deck cottage has been the most wonderful investment for you. The silvery sea is always so beautiful, I would never tire of that! Seeing whales, how exciting - it is a gorgeous place indeed.

Such a beautiful light-you've captured it in your photos
Every season by the sea (I love all seasons there) has its advantages-early autumn is peaceful, warm enough and full of beautiful colours
Your cottage is a real gem
I've never spent time in a house/flat/hotel without curtains or shutters (wind, gales and salt on our coast could be very strong,so it needs window protection) - the view is gorgeous.

Hmmm, wonder why/how my comment disappeared. I love these photos of your getaway cottage, which reminds me in some ways of my old island home. What a rich addition this has been to your life!

It's very quiet...I'm not sure that I could live here full time though!

Nature is such a great healer for what ails us...
the gentle flow of the tides and the seasons as they change.

Gosh and hasn't there been a lot of tragic events in the news lately?
I cannot stay glued to social media or the TV as it is far too stressful for me.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed the post!

Oh I do agree....my husband did a fine job finding this gem.
The whales are a bonus...now I keep an eye out for more sightings!

Loved seeing the orcas! They apparently swim by the cottages regularly on their way to feed on the salmon...will hope to see more of them.

There is a fog this morning and the views are shrouded in a heavy mist and there is a real chill in the air...I am wearing my cashmere socks! First day that it feels like Fall here.
There are blinds in the upstairs bedrooms but the rest of the windows are left unadorned...we have yet to be here in a storm so that may prove to be an eye opener! Thank goodness for a fireplace to keep us cozy.
Will have to post here when we have a storm...
Enjoy your weekend D.

The water when calm is very tranquil but when the gale force winds blow it takes on another energy all together...very violent and unsettling...will need to post on that someday if we are here in a storm!
Hope you have a lovely weekend Julie!

Not sure what happened with your previous post comments...
glad that you tried again!
It is a small island and similar to your former residence...
the arbutus trees, ocean scenery with the rocky shores and sea life...lots of natural beauty and peaceful.
I am so grateful to Mr. HB for finding this place for our family...it will be a welcome and healing haven for us all.

Oh and today the views are shrouded in fog and there is a dampness in the air...time to cozy up in wool sweaters and I already have my cashmere socks on!
Fall has arrived at the cottage!
Hope you have a great weekend Katie.

Its a lovely spot...there are about 2,500 permanent residents...and there is a really active community.
