New dress...

The black bamboo dress that I donated left a void in my closet that begged to be filled. A few empty hangers are now languishing in our closet...

That bamboo "understated" black dress was the one that I wore to many events...
from my retirement celebration...to the theatre, dinners out, Christmas, a staff party, a funeral, bridge luncheons, date nights....

I knew that I needed to find a replacement dress
but I had no idea that I would find one so quickly.

The dress I found is patterned and has body and weight so it hangs well.
I plan to wear black or grey tights with it and depending on the event either my new Chelsea Boots or black shoes.
For a dressier look I can opt for sheer charcoal hose and black kitten heels
and add a vintage brooch for some pizazz.

Hard to capture this well as the fitting room is so tiny.
(I also am wearing my NYDJ boyfriend jeans underneath!)

You can see the jeans underneath
but I was in a hurry
as I was meeting up with my DIL and the grandchildren for a lunch date!

Made by Masai and purchased at a consignment shop in Oak Bay.
Not everything I own has to be new.

New Clark's Chelsea Boots
I'll be wearing these most days every week for the forseeable future.

It has been a wee bit of a shopping frenzy lately...
not my usual habit but I have been fortunate to find some of the things that I need to replace the tired and worn out pieces that I have purged from my closet.

I've been very lucky at the thrift shops too...
several new key pieces have been found at bargain basement prices.
I'll post more on these soon.

Have you found anything on your list for Fall and Winter?

It's such a lovely dress and it suits you great
A navy coat and ankle boots -and I need only a replacement for black trousers. This year I've bought new winter things very early

I needed some new casual pants for fall/winter as my older ones were shapeless. You will get good use out of that dress. You do very well with consignment. I've started looking at home because my daughter has been very successful.

What a cute and very useful dress you have found. I like your planned accessories too. At the moment I am putting together a few things for hot summer days, but am also stressing about what to take over to Canada at Christmas. Do you wear boots like your Chelsea boots when there is ice and snow on the ground? I have a heavy warm coat which lives with my daughter, but need to find some warm pants as well. They are rarely available here - I might need to wait until I get to Vancouver.

The dress is a great find! I like the neckline on you and the drape and details of the dress. I, too, am looking for new ankle boots.

I love that dress - so versatile. Good choice!
The only thing still on my list for now is some ankle boots - love that ones from Clarks but the heel might be a bit high for me - I have mobility issues - but I love the look of them, must check them out.

I wear silk thermals under my regular pants for cold weather. The extra layer keeps me warm,is very easy to pack and I don't need extra pants that wouldn't get used very often.

You wear your new dress well! I'm still shopping in my own closet and seem to have everything I need for this winter. That said, if something really appeals to me I could make a new purchase.

Black trousers are such a staple in our closets...I have two pair, one dressy and one slightly more casual. Good luck finding your new pair!

When we wear our things frequently I find that they do wear out...not something that an owner of a vast wardrobe might experience...but that's just part of the minimalistic journey.
Hope you find some bargains! Happy Hunting!

The winter weather at Christmas in Canada can be cold and it has been known to snow but there are loads of great places to shop in Vancouver so you'll have lots of options. I wear the Chelsea boots all Fall and Winter but I do have a pair of lined snow boots with a gripping sole for ice and snow and a pair of "wellington" style "gum boots!" for the torrential rains.

Thank you...the dress had so much going for it that I just had to pounce!
There are lots of fabulous chelsea boots out there...I like a pointy toe too and may buy another pair if I see them for a fabulous price!

Pockets are not usual in garments that I see on my radar...I often carry a tissue so this will be better than tucking it into my bra!!!

I have another pair of Clarks, the oes that I took to walk for hours in Paris and they are really flat...they are the Artisan series so you may find some that work for you.
Hope you find a pair that are comfy.

Thank you Adrienne...it turns out that the other Oak Bay consignment shop has some Masai pieces...so I need to keep my eyes on both shops now for more great finds.

I can wear this to the club for my bridge afternoons, to the theatre for our annual series of plays and then there are dinners out...I think this dress will take me to all those places easily.

Of course you do not NEED LISTS! You are spontaneous and know what you love and what looks great and I applaud your savvy shopping habits!!

Good that you have all the basics in your closet all ready...I am constantly editing and curating mine...with a small amount of clothing I actually get "tired" of things after a couple of years!

The boots are fun...a bit edgy too which is why I think I love them so much!

Love that dress! Great style, and a V-neck is usually flattering if not to deep. I love going into the stores as the seasons change. I always end up getting a couple of things, just to freshen things up a bit. Cute boots too. Love your blog. Happy to find one that is local, and for more mature women. I can relate to so many things you talk about and go through.

Thank you both. I do have one set of thermals, so perhaps could wear them under jeans. A little shopping in Vancouver would be nice as we have 24 hours there on arrival in Canada. Thank you for telling me about snow boots with a gripping sole - that sounds to be what we both need. I did buy some thick warm socks today, so I am making a start.
