Snow Day...

We enjoyed a dinner out with friends this week,
on the drive home we marvelled at the large orange moon hanging low in the sky
it looked like it was suspended just above the houses
and the reflection on the ocean was just so beautiful...

Not quite the image that I was hoping for...
it was difficult to capture the detail with my IPhone.

I cannot believe it but we have more snow...
we awoke yesterday to a light dusting and it continued to fall all morning.

This was the view on my walk the other day and I thought for sure that we would be enjoying warmer temperatures.

I noticed that there were a few late forming rose buds...
they must be frozen and ready to drop by now.

A study in black and white
Black Mondo grass poking out of the snow.

I decided that some comfort food was needed so I made a chicken pot pie.

The Food network had Ina Gartens' recipe.

Fresh and hot from the oven.
Can you see the snow outside?

Mr. HB put up a string of white lights on the Climbing Royal Sunset rose.
They look so pretty at night
I can see them when I am working in the Humble Bungalow Kitchen.

reminds me of a string of lustrous pearls

We went to an open house and a birthday party last night,
held in a heritage home of a young family.
There was quite a crowd and I think that the children outnumbered the adults.

This black cat clock hangs in the kitchen and the eyes move from side to side.
The young children are quite taken with it...as are many of the adults who have memories of these vintage clocks.

I've woken up with a stuffy nose and a scratchy throat and I am hoping that it does not turn into a cold. Today I plan to lay low, drink lots of fluids and keep warm.

Fortunately
I have a great book

The Midwife of Hope River
by Patricia Harman
I am halfway through and enjoying it immensely.

Have you had a good weekend?
What's new?
Are you busy with all the Christmas preparations?

Hi Hostess- what a lovely wintry post. We had a few inches of snow this weekend and it is looking festive. Love a hot pot pie on a cold winter evening. I started The Midwife at your suggestion and it is so good!! Happy Holiday to you!

Hope you feel better! Add some sambucus elderberry to your tea. It tastes good and helps with what's ailing you.

We have had a lot of snow here in Toronto and the temperature is about minus-12C at the moment. I think we've got more snow already than we've had the past two winters combined!
I am almost ready for Christmas - going to end off the last couple of cards this morning - have 1 present to buy and I think I will pick up some Dubonnet today (I always like to have a bottle for Christmas). I received an early gift from some wonderful friends who went in together to buy it - a Kitchenmaid Mixer! I have wanted one for years and will enjoy using it over the next few months - I see lots of baking on the horizon so I'll need to invite over lots of friends to help me eat the results!
Your photos look wonderful - I love all the lights and a friend drove me through the neighbourhood a few nights ago to see the displays - everything looks even better with the snow on the ground.
Keep warm and rest up - you don't want to be ill over the holidays.

I hope the glitch with publishing is not a long term issue. I get very frustrated when computer problems arise...
The moon looks so much bigger and brighter lately and I have heard many call it a super moon!
Take care,
Leslie

It is much colder where you live Margie!
Our temperatures have warmed up quite a bit and now we are getting rain.
You will LOVE that Kitchen Aid mixer! I use mine a lot and wonder how I ever got on without it.
I will try my best to get over this virus asap!

Enjoy your facial...they are so relaxing.
Just thinking about it makes me feel calm...
Christmas is a few days away so you'll find some more time to squeeze in the extra things and if they don't get done...well, you'll just have to go with the flow!

We are nursing the same illness in the K House, hoping that it passes before the children come home. Seven inches of lake-effect snow kept us indoors this weekend, but gifts are wrapped and the tree is up. So we were able to sit tight and enjoy the wintry show. If I am unable to visit your blog until after Christmas, I wish you and your family a blessed holiday!

Seasons greetings Kristien,
I hope you will be feeling better soon. There is a lot of illness in our midst right now and I think it might be because we are so busy getting things organized for the holidays, not enough rest and late nights.
You really have a lot of snow! Nice that you are ready for Christmas with time to relax and enjoy the seasonal snowfall.
Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2017. I always enjoy your posts, although I don't always comment. It doesn't matter if it is food, fashion or those gorgeous pictures - it's always good.
