I am calling in sick....

Love these simple white blooms with the yellow stamens.
A garden filled with all white flowers is stunning and elegant.

Do you have a colour theme in your garden?

Ours is a riot of colour.

My foray into black and white photography continues...

The Royal Oak Pharmasave is an amazing place to shop
they have some great buyers and a wide variety of gift items, clothing and travel accessories.

While perusing the aisles I spied this new cuticle lotion.
I tried the sample tube and walked around the store buying the items on my list.
When I was finished I went back to the display and grabbed a tube.

Made in Vancouver BC

Emollient, rich and it absorbs right into the skin.
using only a pea size amount I think this will be a hand and cuticle
"game changer."

Am suffering with a nasty kidney infection that stems from those UTI's.
I ended up going to the ER as the pain in my back was so intense I could not sleep a wink.

The doctor decided that I should have a CT scan
which showed the kidney infection
there is also a kidney stone floating inside the kidney.

First off I had never had a CT scan
so when the nurse wheeled me off to the imaging unit
I was actually gobsmacked!

It was a huge white space age looking Seimens machine.

I am on some new antibiotics and hope that they kick the bacterial infection.
I'll be back to more tests after I finish the 10 days of pills.

The ER was a CRAZY BUSY place...
the staff was amazing.

The doctor and nurse who were helping me were so professional and calm.
The nurse Sarah was young, very sweet and had a bubbly personality.

The Dr had excellent bedside manner and was very attentive.

It felt to me that they were working under extremely challenging chaotic and stressful circumstances...
yet they both remained calm and treated me like I was the only patient in their care.

I have dropped off a small gift bag for each of them.
Tea, chocolate, and some triple milled French soaps with a card of thanks for each.

I still have a fever, am tired and so I am not doing too much as I recuperate.

Tea and reading every afternoon and perhaps a nap.

Alliums in an antique jug.

I am reading this series at top speed!
When I woke up early this morning I made a pot of coffee and got stuck in...
there are a few chapters left to read but will save them for tomorrow.

Isn't it fun when you find a series that you love to read and the author is still adding more books to the series?

Everyone seems to rave about this Thursday Murder Club Series.
My husband laughs out loud when he read the books!

~ Pink snow ~

Constance Spry
a fragrant David Austin climbing rose in the Humble Bungalow Garden.

We can see people stop as they walk by and look up...
many remark about the fragrance and other swoon over the blooms.

All the roses are doing their best to knock our socks off right now.
I am barefoot and in awe of their extreme beauty.
Roses ARE my FAVOURITE FLOWER :-))
Perhaps you love them too?

I'm going to keep this post short and sweet.

Make a cup of peppermint tea...
wash and moisturize my face
put my nightie on and lay down
wrap myself in a cozy blanket
and watch some TV.

Hope that you are all well...

 MY personal PSA
(heads up)
intense pain is a signal to take action
when it comes to your urinary system don't wait
ACT!

I think I waited too long and things went sideways.
I'll be slowly on the mend
which sounds like it could be for many weeks.

Take Care

I am glad you're taking care of yourself. My theory is we try to ignore things in the hopes they will just go away on their own, I know that's my M.O. My husband gets kidney stones, they are nothing to mess with. Those Richard Osman books are good medicine.

I hope you are soon on the mend Lesley. Those nasty UTIs are another gift of ageing. Your health system sounds much like ours in Australia with the hospital staff so overworked. Take extra care of You.

Take extra good care of yourself, get better soon!

take good care and give yourself the time you need to fully recover. tea, cozy clothes, a good book and lovely roses upon which to gaze sound like exactly what the doctor ordered (in addition to the antibiotics and plenty of fluids!).

Hi Leslie, I had a similar situation to yours. My Urologist told me no more baths ( showers only) , no hot tubs and no swimming pools. Sorry to tell you the no swimming part because I know the pool has been a help to your arthritis. I followed his directions and haven't had any since ( knock on wood). I also had some strong meds I was on to get rid of the infection that didn't want to go away. It did take awhile to clear up. It is hard to be patient and let your body heal but as you mentioned your body is talking to you. What a lovely gesture giving those treats to your health care helpers.
Hope you recover well and soon. Sending you a long distance hug.

Hope you feel better soon. Love your gardens. Thanks for sharing Victoria tidbits.

I know it's hard but do listen to your body and take care of yourself giving it time to heal which it will do. In the meantime enjoy those Richard Osman books.

Please do take care and get medical attention ... I have heard of people dying from a bladder infection. If not treated, infection can spread with dangerous results.
Best wishes

i hope you feel better soon. But your PSA is spot on. When you have intense pain fo to the ER. I learned this the hard way when I had a compression fracture and ignored the blinding pain.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Leslie. Besides the pain (which must have been horrid) the stress of that whole process and the eventual diagnosis would have been considerable. Coming on the heels of your recent adjustment to arthritis compounds the blow. I hope that the antibiotics are making a difference and that you're giving yourself (and getting!) lots of rest and self-care. More sitting in the sunshine in that pretty corner of your garden with tea and a book. . . .

Sending healing thoughts and a hug, Leslie. I am sorry to hear about your struggles. Sounds like you're doing the right things to take care of yourself. I hope you feel better real soon!

Leslie, I'm so sorry! That kind of pain can be so dreadful. I'm glad you got good medical care in the end, and I hope you can get all the rest you need so you can fully recover.

Hoping by now those antibioc's have kicked in and you are feeling better!
I love your roses .

I do hope you will soon be feeling better. Taking the gifts to the ER doc and nurse was such a thoughtful gesture - truly a great example of grace under pressure.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about your kidney stone. They are SO painful. I had one several years ago and know the intensity. Rest and self-care are definitely in order. Take good care of yourself, and enjoy your beautiful garden.

Stacey ~ I wasn't really aware that I was much sicker than I knew! I am just fortunate that I now have a treatment plan! Just finished the book and WOW what an ending!

Paris Cafe ~ I think the pandemic really impacted our health care system...hospital and frontline staff are stretched beyond their capacity. Thank goodness they are there when we need them.

Laura J ~ I am doing my best to stay quiet and rest...my body is telling me that is what I need to do right now and I am listening.

Adele ~ I have definitely been drinking a lot of water and tea...trying my best to flush out the kidneys and stay hydrated. I have 3 new books from the library to read and I will be wearing cozy comfy clothes...the roses are cheering me on :-))

Carolyn ~ I hope to see a urologist after my next CT scan...I do have a few questions and the pool is one of them. Good to know that you were able to get on top of your UTI issues. Take care

Judith M ~ Victoria is such a pretty city so it is easy to share snippets...will be sharing more once I have totally recovered from this health issue.

Christy ~ I finished the Osman book and it had quite the twist at the end! Now onto 3 new books from the local library...lots of quiet tie ad tea for me. Will be happy when I am back to health and "out of the woods."

Anonymous ~ Yes death from sepsis in untreated UTI infections is a very real thing.

Tahoe Girl ~ Pain is there for a reason...I assumed my pain was the arthritis...now I know better!!!

materfamilias ~ I hope that I have "dodged the bullet!" that infection took hold very fast despite two rounds of antibiotics...I have heeded the doctor's advice and am laying low, drinking lots of water and tea, hubby is cooking and I am reading lots. I got 3 new books from the library...Kate Atkinson's latest Shrines of Gaiety, The Lost Chapter by Carolyn Bishop, and Bloomsbury Girls by Natalie Jenner...all sound very good and will keep me good company...cards, flowers and well wishes are popping up on the radar here in The Humble Bungalow...I am feeling grateful for the medicines and have faith that I will make a full recovery.
Thank you!

Jeannine ~ I am following the doctor's orders...resting and staying hydrated. Hope to be back in action as soon as I get the all clear.

t ~ Thank you...

Ms Liz ~ The garden is a great spot to sit and soak in beauty...the roses are so lovely that I cannot help but feel encouraged when I see and smell their blooms.

LPC ~I am able to rest as much as I need...no pressure to do anything really...my husband is doing the dinners and lunches are pretty simple...I actually don't have much of an appetite right now. Grateful for the medical science and supports that are out there despite the chaos of the ER!

Lady Jicky ~ I have taken 4 doses of the antibiotics and I do feel a difference...less pain for starters...must on the mend but time will tell.
Thank you

Judith ~ Those health care workers are stretched too far...I have never seen it first hand, they see and work in those conditions every shift. My tokens of thanks may brighten their day but they need much more support and changes made by the medical authority.

Lorrie ~ Your garden must be looking amazing...I loved seeing your finished kitchen! You must want to spend much of your day in that space!

Leslie, glad you are in the mend! A lovely gesture to those who were so considerate, I am sure they appreciated that. Take good care. Best wishes from Rita, Victoria

Anonymous ~ I capture snippets of the garden with the roses as they are so easy to share...they are too pretty to hide away!

Shari ~ Thank you, my fever has gone now and so I think the antibiotics are starting to work :-))

Rita in Victoria ~ I got a phone call from the doctor who tended to me in the ER thanking ME for the gifts. I was totally surprised that she took the time to call as I know how incredibly busy the staff are in that hospital. It made me weep but I didn't let on!

That Pharmasave is near where I live and I love going in there. Broadmead Village is a great little shopping/dining centre. So sorry to hear you have been ill and in pain. I do hope you are feeling much better and that you recover completely A.S.A.P.

Such a lovely post despite being under the weather. Sending you healing thoughts. 💛

Leslie, I am so sorry to hear that you've been quite ill. UTIs are miserable, and the kidney infection/stone sound just awful. My gyn prescribes topical vaginal estrogen cream to help with the changes that occur in us ladies of a certain age and therefore make UTIs less likely. I've been using it for years and have (knock on wood)not had any UTIs. I hope you will be back to feeling better soon!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Bonnie ~ My fever has gone and I only have 5 more doses of the antibiotics so am hoping that I will be back to normal soon!

Mabon Moon ~ That Pharmasave is very special...I perused their clothing, scarves and gift sections...I must say it is one of my favourites and you must have fun shopping there and it is so close to your home :-))

Susan ~ Ah yes there is a healing power in flowers and roses!

Maggie ~ Once the doctor's get to the root of this kidney issue I am going to pose that estrogen question asap. Good to know that it has worked for you and so many other women our age.

Susan said...

I am so sorry you are so ill! Hopefully the medication will kick the infection.

Hi Leslie,

I am so sorry to read that you have been so unwell. A kidney infection is quite nasty and takes time to recover from. I had a kidney stone last December and had to have a procedure where they break it up with a laser. It was successful but the urologist has now arranged a CT scan for me so they can check to make sure I have not developed any more stones. I think kidney stone pain is absolutely the worst and you certainly wouldn't be able to sleep. Take good care of yourself. It sounds like you are doing all the right things!
Sending positive get well thoughts and a hug.

Leslie,

Try taking cranberry capsules. They really do help in preventing UTI's.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Susan ~ The antibiotics are working! I went out for a beach walk yesterday which felt wonderful :-))

Marilyn Snell ~ I am now on the cranberry capsules...and I hope your CT scan will show that you are free of kidney stones!

KSL ~ I think I might have missed your comment...
I hope that the 10 days o0f strong antibiotics will kill all the germs that have infiltrated the kidney.
Should know soon...

Take care,
Summer must be lovely in Ojai.

Dear Leslie,
I'm pleased to hear you are on the mend. I so look forward to your posts. You have an innate sense of grace, elegance and beauty and they are balm in this troubled world. And keep posting book suggestions. I loved the Thursday Murder Club Series, especially since I was feeling a bit low, chuckles galore.
