December Vibes

The Christmas tree and fairy lights
we've added a few festive touches.

Our decorating has happened much sooner than usual.
Spending most of our time in The Humble Bungalow during the pandemic
has made us much more aware of our surroundings and we need more Cheer!

Snow capped Mount Baker in the background at Willows Beach.
Walking along the sandy beach listening to the sound of the waves
gulls calling as they fly overhead.

Walking under sunny skies is preferable to the rain...
unfortunately
there is rain in the forecast for most of the week
so I will don my new red raincoat and grab a brolly...
Needs Must!

Cooking through Covid is helping me stay focused on comfort food.
Why not make a soothing meal each night for dinner?
Ina has hit the ball right out of the park with this timely cookbook.

The Ultimate Beef Stew recipe is full of flavour and makes a big batch.
Leftovers can easily be frozen for a future meal.

While this stew was simmering in the oven our Bungalow
sumptuous scents wafted out from the dutch oven.

We were extra hungry by the time it was ready to sit down to dinner!

This wonderfully written book is transporting me back to Tuscany.
Its a delight to read...thank goodness for armchair travel!

Mr HB is busy building our deer fence.
He installed the 3 panels this past weekend.
The tall cedar posts will be cut down and capped.

Hopefully
Our roses out front should be safer next Spring and Summer.

We listened to Dr. Bonnie Henry's announcement yesterday and learned that the Covid cases here in BC are showing no bend in the curve...

We are not allowed to gather with friends or family inbdoors or outside.
Fines will be issued if we do not obey the rules.

Christmas will be only allowed for the family that live under one roof...
so we will need to be creative
meet up remotely via Zoom or FaceTime.

In good news the vaccines are on their way!

How are you holding up during the pandemic?
 What are you reading?
Have you decorated earlier than usual for the festive season?

Stay Safe

I've been slowing getting my holiday decorations out since late November! I have really needed the balm that seeing all my old ornaments and the twinkling lights have provided. The only challenge is keeping the cat away from everything - it's all new to him as I stopped decorating when we got him. He was such a terror, I feared for my treasures.

Your home looks so cozy and wonderful, L, and I can nearly smell that stew from here! Here's hoping we get a bit more sunshine in the coming days.

I always enjoy seeing photos of your home and garden. They are so peaceful and comforting. We are in Texas and in much the same situation you find yourself in. We will be spending Christmas with just the two of us. We hope for progress with the vaccine and a lessening of the political acrimony concerning the virus in the United States. We are a bit envious of your more harmonious political situation. Merry Christmas to you and your family Leslie.

Your decorations are beautiful and they would make anyone feel a bit more cheerful. I have decorated a bit earlier this year too. Our small city usually has a christmas pageant but this year it was held on our football oval with tickets being bought to keep down the numbers of spectators. It just wasn't the same but the best we could do. Pageant day was always the day we put our decorations up, but this year I started earlier just because I needed to cheer up the house a bit after our cold and wet winter. We are now getting the warmer temps. and it feels so much better. Hope you have a safe and happy Christmas.

We are planning gatherings on Zoom, too, and some driveway gift deliveries. We will spend a quiet few days - I'm planning some festive, but simple meals, and we will have books and watch a few movies. It will be quiet, but it's so important to follow our PHO's recommendations.

We decorated on Saturday and that is a bit early for us, too. We are enjoying the glow of the lights each evening.

Twinkling lights are a little bit of magic...our small cat climbs the tree and that is why we cannot put ornaments on it...he will not leave it alone! Good luck keeping your cat away from the tree.
The sun came out today and I had a much better and longer walk. Hope you are enjoying the sun today too.

My husband and I will try and make some festive fun meals and set the table in the dining room. We plan to FaceTime with the grandchildren over the holoidays which will make it feel like we are not alone! Enjoy your holiday time at your home in Texas.
Merry Christmas

A pageant sounds like fun and I understand how it must be held in a different space for safety of all the participants and the audience. We are unable to do anything like that right now until we see a reduction in the numbers of people with the virus. Enjoy your holidays Rosie and Merry Christmas

Yes those deliveries will be done very carefully!
The lights lift our spirits and create a wee bit of magic...it seems like we appreciate these little things a lot more than usual. The Covid number of cases yesterday were lower which made us feel so much more positive.
Stay safe Lorrie

I haven't been commenting lately, but please know I always read and so enjoy your posts. This one is no exception. Thanks for the recipe, I'm going to try it - a little different version of beef roast is always welcome. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
