Christmas Traditions

There are many traditions that we embrace over the holidays...

We hang this hand made wreath that was made in the ealy 1960's.
This was made by a friend of my husband's mother.

It has shiny baubles, pine cones, faux holly and vintage rhinestone brooches.

We were fortunate to be given this wreath...
we hang it in The Humble Bungalow dining room every Christmas season.

Christmas is going to be VERY different this year because of the pandemic.
We will be visiting each other via ZOOM and FACE TIME.

Baking and cooking for Christmas occupies a lot of my time
I am enjoying trying out new recipes.
Sharing Baskets and Food Hampers with family.

We'll be doing driveway drop offs!

With a focus on comfort these days I want to share a super simple pot roast recipe.

Pot Roast with whipped potatoes and peas.

Savoury Pot Roast

3 pound beef blade pot roast
2 Tbsp. oil
1/4 cup wine vinegar
1/4 cup ketchup
2 Tbsp soy sauce ( I use Braggs)
2 Tbsp worcherstershire sauce
1/2 Tsp minced garlic
1/2 Tsp dry mustard

3 Tbsp flour
1/4 cup water

In a Dutch oven heat oil and brown roast on all sides.
Sprinkle with salt
Combine the rest of the ingredients and pour into pot.
Simmer covered for 2 hours.

Remove to a carving board and cover with foil to rest for 5 minutes.

Make a slurry of  3 Tbsp flour and 1/4 cup of water and shake in a bottle.
Whisk into the fluid left in the pot and thicken and use as a Gravy.

Enjoy!

How are you celebrating the holidays this year?
Are you able to meet in person?

I'll be busy for the next week or so baking and preparing gifts.

Are you ready for Christmas?

Thank you for dropping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

I think your pot roast dinner looks very delicious! You brighten my day, keep posting! I find your blog very down to earth with glimpses of your daily life and routine. That wreath is a treasure! Our son won't be coming home foe Christmas but our daughter lives very close so will have Christmas dinner with her. My husband's mother and uncle, ages 86 and 91, live in the same town as well, but very cautious about getting together because of covid. It is very surreal and it is hard but have to make the best of it. Merry Christmas to you!

If you make the pot roast please let me know what you think of it.
I am happy to hear that you enjoy my little blog...will keep posting as long as I have readers!
Enjoy your Christmas with your daughter...the family elders need to be so careful right now. Here the older seniors are next in line for the vaccines after the health care workers so hopefully that will save many lives.
Making the best of the current situation is what we must do...looking on the bright side makes our days much easier. Happy Holidays and all the best in 2021

I was just thinking of pulling a chuck roast out of the freezer! Now I have a new recipe to try out, so thank you! I thought of you this morning after waking up from one crazy dream. Talking about it on IG must have triggered me to have one...LOL. It seemed to go on FOREVER and involved trying to wax two minivans inside of a small private room at some restaurant...no idea where my brain conjured this from. LOL, got one done, but the other one somehow ended up in the parking lot of a gas station with scotch tape connecting it to a man inside the gas station. Hoping NOT to complete that minivan tonight. Bahahaaaa...Happy Holidays!

What a beautiful wreath! I almost didn't hang up the cone wreath my mother made back in the late 60s/early70s because it is showing it's age. But I have hung it in the house every Christmas/winter since building our house in 1991. Your pot roast recipe looks wonderful. I may use your recipe for my husband's bear roast birthday dinner tomorrow! Thank you & Happy Christmas. Carol in VT

Your pot roast looks delicious! We just had one two nights ago, one of my husband's favorite dinners. Although our holiday will look different, we will do our best to make it memorable and special. May you have a Blessed Christmas in your lovely bungalow!

I hope that you enjoy the recipe. Oh my that dream does sound strange! It could be the script to a movie or a comedy sketch!
Take care

Our grandchildren popped by last night and picked up their Christmas presents...I made an "open me know" gift bag with some treats, stikers, a Christmas book, and some new Jenny Wren mugs with cute animals on them.
Merry Christmas Maria
Stay safe

Dear Hostess, from my family to yours, wishing you all the compliments of the season and hoping for a better 2021. I've saved your recipe for the cooler months as here in Brisbane Australia, we are in the middle of our summer so cold salads and fresh fruit are the go with some fresh seafood from the markets! I'm trying to limit the amount of time spent in the kitchen, even though we have a good air-conditioning system at our place. I still love your blog - such a calm and soothing environment. Stay safe and all the very best for the New Year.
