Flower Power...and Prints Charming!

The sun is shining brightly
 the snow has melted
the crocus are in full bloom.

Intricate details inside the flowers...
so pretty.

My wardrobe is quite neutral and prints do not play a big role in garments
mostly they appear in scarves.

Many women at the club where I play bridge are wearing bright printed tops.
Seeing these colourful tops is rather uplifting
especially after all the cold ice and snow.

These pretty tops are like a breath of fresh air.

Perusing the shops for some inspiration
and perhaps a colourful new scarf
I decided that I could break out of my comfort zone and buy a printed top.

Not sure that i want to invest a lot of money on what I think is a trend...

So,
I went thrift shopping.

The price is just a wee bit more than the cost of a vente latte at Starbucks!

Tunic top
black background
soft pink and blue floral print.

Feminine Bell sleeves

I plan to wear it with some bangles and bracelets.

Brass accents on the ties.

I plan to wear this tunic top with the black Eileen Fisher skinny ponte knit pants
or the black Hue leggings.

Have you embraced prints in your wardrobe?

Are you looking for anything new for your wardrobe?

Have you been able to access your Instagram account today?
I cannot use mine and I realize just how much time I spend looking at it!

I used to wear a lot more print. I don't wear much now. I like that pink and blue on black because it could be worn with your black EF or with white pants in the summer. I've been on Instagram today. I spend quite a bit of time on while I'm away. I'm getting into A Gentleman in Moscow. You might enjoy it.

Beautiful find! I love prints, though when I look in my drawers and closets, I'm not seeing any. Depressing. Must hunt down some colour in Victoria thrift stores soon.

I enjoy the floral prints on a dark background, and you have found a bargain addition to your wardrobe. It is very pretty and will work in with what you have. Agreed, it is a trend, but a fun one, and I have also bought a couple of tops like this. The crocus are gorgeous - Spring is on the way.

Love the pretty top you found. One or two to pop up neutrals is always fun. Where is your favourite thrift shop for good finds? I think you did very well getting that at a great price.

Like you, I have noticed some very enticing prints for spring! I have been hesitant to bite, though, as prints are generally out of my comfort zone. I think your strategy of thrift shopping is the perfect solution. I think I may try doing the same. Your top is lovely.

Good for you! That's the way to indulge in a fun piece that doesn't have to break the bank, or, be a forever piece in your wardrobe. I actually just indulged in a lovely Nanette Lepore dress that I found at the Patch for $26.95 (new with tags! A $139 dress!), in a dark floral like your tunic.

Happy spring, my dear!

I don't wear a lot of prints, but perhaps I should! They certainly brighten a dull day!

I like your top, nice colours and a subtle print
I usually wear monochrome (black,navy,white...),but from time to time, I love prints, not only as scarves, but summer dresses-floral,dots,leopard,graphic....and than back to monochrome. I love the equilibrium of both

Lovely top Leslie. I have no prints in my wardrobe except in scarves. I would love to see a photo of you in this top.

Oh those crocus! We have a lot of melting going on right now - so we're looking at snow, ice, standing water in huge amounts, and mud everywhere. It's certainly not a pretty sight! I just ordered some new t-shirts online - my usual plain things: white, black, a pretty blue, and a navy and white stripe. I'm good with plain - its just how I roll, I guess.

Your crocus are lovely and cheerful signs of Spring. A welcomed sight. Your tunic in a floral print has great feminine energy. I don't have much floral print in my wardrobe. Solid colors, geometric prints and subtle plaids are more prominent in my wardrobe. I need to add some floral. Susan

Nice tunic, even better price!
FYI Facebook and Instagram has been out for a while because of "server configuration change"; service has been restored now.

Am also looking at fun fabrics to sew up some garments to add a bit of zing to spring and summer outfits. Always enjoy your updates.

You have such good luck shopping the thrift stores. Great eye. Love the details on this blouse. Great change of pace.

I actually don’t own anything with a print, except scarves and shawls. Do stripped tee shirts count as a print, as I have many? Maybe I should step out of my comfort zone and try a print top....

I love this top but I would have problems with the sleeves - I just know I'd be dragging them into something or other!
Every year I try for a print top - and every year I end up regretting it. I can manage a check, a polka dot, or a stipe but the only prints I seem to have any luck with is a conservative (2 colour only) paisley - and even then it takes a lot to convince me that it will work. I love beautiful prints on other people - just never feel comfortable with them myself.

I read his former book and enjoyed it so will add this title to my reading list!
Your blog pictures of Oaxaca are so bright and sunny...your breakfasts look amazing.

I like to shop at the WIN thrift shops. They have nice things and the proceeds from the sales help women.

Spring is definitely on its way! Our temperatures are warming up and the flowers are starting to bloom. A floral print is exactly what I feel like wearing at this point in time.

The WIN thrift shops are my favourites and there are several locations around Victoria. I regularly go to the Cook street shop and frequently visit the one across the Bay Street bridge. My sister goes to the one in the western community. The plus is that the proceeds go to help women in need...hence the name WIN!

I have not been able to find a floral scarf yet so this tunic top is a just stepping stone until I do find one! There are many patterns that are too bold or too big but this one felt rather “dainty” so I think I can get away with it!

Hi Sheila! Nanette Lenore garments are difficult to find here, I saw a couple of pieces at Marshall’s last week but in tiny sizes! Good work finding the dress! You have great luck but I know that you look regularly so you put in the time.
Looks like we will have a sunny weekend!

I think the power of suggestion was behind my recent purchase...a nasty batch of weather left me craving for sunshine and flowers!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

I have striped tops and polka dots too but really don’t consider them prints...they feel more like neutrals as they are just a pattern of two colours. That may not make sense...it’s just how I feel about them! So I am treading lightly into the world of prints with this rather safe choice.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

That’s good to hear! Beautiful flowers have that affect on me too!

Taking a selfie while wearing this top may prove to be a challenge! Will see if I can convince my husband to help in that department!

The crocus are cheerful harbingers of Spring. The melt is always a messy sight...hopefully it’s a speedy process in your area.
Basic tees and tops are essentials..how lovely to have some fresh new ones in your wardrobe. Knowing what works for you is the name of the game!

It’s the time of year when I crave colour and often find that I choose something rather different as a tonic...retail therapy as mother would say can go a long way to elevate our moods. Good luck finding your print!

The outages online were much longer than expected! Happy sewing Marianne! It must be fun searching for fabrics and patterns...dreaming of a new frock to make and wear!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

We have quite a few decent consignment shops and a variety of thrift shops here and perhaps Marie Kondo has spurred people on to declutter their wardrobe!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

I don’t consider striped tops as prints..a graphic pattern maybe and polka dots. Prints usually have more than two colours don’t they? How is your garden? Has it recovered from the severe windstorm? Spring is coming!!!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

The sleeves are 3/4 length so I don’t think I will have an issue with them...although I wouldn’t wear this top if I was kneading bread dough! The scale of this print makes it a safe choice for me...I don’t like really big prints or any that are bold so this one feels less of a risky choice.

That's a very pretty tunic with a touch of spring which is most welcome. I'm a small print person, too.

Thank you Kathy! The top feels safe, as it is a "conservative print!"
