Checking in...

My time on the computer has dwindled of late...
there are more things keeping me busy that require my attention.

In advance of our trip to Italy
I enrolled in a class at the local community centre.
Italian for travellers.

The language is beautiful...
it has a very melodic sound
and
spoken with such passion.

Learning a new language at my age is proving to be a challenge!
The teacher,
who is from Rome,
gives us lots of homework and much of it requires memorization.

I am really enjoying the sessions
 have met many wonderful people
who are also planning a trip to Italy.

The snow kept me indoors more than I would have liked...
I love to walk every day.

The fresh air clears out any cobwebs and energizes.
I discovered that noticing and savouring the beauty of nature has a positive effect on my mental well being.

So I suffered a bit with cabin fever...
which prompted me to clean out cupboards and drawers.
Many bags are heading off to the charity shop,

The snow is melting!
The roads are clear and only a few patches of snow linger in The Humble Bungalow Garden.

Walking has resumed!

I'm reading a great book...
have you read it?

What are you reading?
Do you have any favourite books to share?

My hair is greyer these days...
its longer and some days is curlier than others.
I've stopped washing it every day as grey hair tends to be dry.

My skin has been extra dry...
think it must be the cold weather.
I have been slathering on serums, moisturizers, body lotion and hand cream.

Are you on Instagram?

She lives in Paris and has an amazing shop called Crimson.
She is a style icon.
I plan to visit her shop when I go to Paris.

Many mature women are reinventing themselves...
the confidence, joy and passion that they share
is positively invigorating...

Times up!
Must close the laptop
I am meeting friend for a walk.

Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

In another era, I took a French class for adults (sorry, not Italian, but...) The teacher gave us a huge printout of phrases to memorize before the next class. As some groaned, she barked (and she was SO French--of a "certain" age, very thin and chic), "Je ne veux pas de dilletante dans ma classe!" I don't want dilltettants in my class!!!! That shut things up. Even though the class was full of people just wanting to travel, not seeking anything beyond that.
All the same, you will enjoy your trip so much more for every word that you understand.

Follow Linda with great envy - shopkeeper in Paris? What could be better? Thank you for the book recommendation....getting near the end of my current read L'appart and looking to return to WWII Europe. Keep up with the Italian and remember Attraversiamo! Ciao Bella.....

Your hair and glasses are really cute together:).

Your hair is looking great, L! I've enjoyed the snow we've had, but it can all go away now. I took some long walks in it - so beautiful. Enjoy learning Italian - it's similar to Spanish and French as far as the grammar goes. Paris and Italy in the same trip, or in two separate ones?

Learning Italian for your trip is impressive. Being able to converse with locals makes travel even better. Linda is definitely an icon - she has a wonderful style. Visiting Crimson should be fabulous. Your new hair length looks lovely. Classic and timeless style never goes out of style. Your garden is showing welcomed signs of Spring. Susan

Someone else recently recommended that book - must check it out. I just finished reading "Educated" by Tara Westover - it's an autobiography and I highly recommend it - and amazing story!
I too am letting my hair grow out a bit - and I'm way overdo for a colour (my hairdresser is away for a few weeks) and I do find that I can let it go a day or two between washes now - saves some time in the morning.
We got more snow today so no Spring in sight as yet - I am very envious.

Oh, your hair looks lovely, I like it very much, so different. I know exactly what you mean by the cabin fever and the benefits of walking, the physical and mental well-being. For weeks our high temperatures, 37c+ and high humidity, have made walking difficult for me too. Can't wait for cooler weather and renewed activitiy. The snowdrops and iris are beautiful, such a pretty hint of Spring. Thank you for the tip re Linda V Wright - I found it, and she looks like quite an inspiration. Happy learning with the Italian.

I enjoyed The Alice Network. Your hair is much longer. I like it. Curly hair is unpredictable. Humidity plays such a role in its appearance. I'm happy to see the snow melting as walking has been difficult. Happy studies!

Are you fluent in French now? Living there full time must be like attending a total immersion school.

I took French refresher classes before I went to Paris and The SW of France in 2015...the lessons really helped a lot and so I figure that having some Italian would be good for that phase of our trip...plus it is a good excercise for my aging grey cells!!!

Isn't she amazing? I love how she writes and her outfits are colourful and interesting...I think she has great style.
I think that word is featured in a scene with Julia Roberts from Eat Pray Love!

Thank you Lisa...one of my friends purchased the same glasses after she saw mine...she has a second pair in a different style so when we go out she opts for the other pair!!

Thank you...I wondered if it was just a bit too long...still thinking that i may habe it sortened into a bob.
The grammar is similar...and that helps to a degree...still it feels like a steep learning curve! Still I am only into the 4th session of class...so there is still time to improve!

Thank you Susan...Linda's style appeals to many women and I appreciate her candid comments. She seems so confident and comfortable with where she is in life and she has so much vibrant energy! Very inspiring.

I want to read Educated...I gave it to a friend for her birthday.
Snow is forecast for the mainland today...I am hoping that we will avoid more here.
Spring will come, just maybe a wee bit later than usual.

The temperature extremes are not conducive to our walks...if I had more room I would invest in a treadmill! Do you own one?
Hope you enjoy Linda's IG posts.

I like your hairstyle too! I wondered if I should have mine a few inches shorter...
maybe a curly bob as the weight of my hair relaxes some of the curl.
I love the Aveda brilliant gel...it moisturizes and adds some shine and defines the curl...have you tried it? What hair products do you use?

Love your hair longer - have you tried it up or back yet? I think it would look very elegant. It's been very cold and rainy (for Los Angeles) and I have cabin fever too - it's also been dark and hard for me to paint. Very ready for Spring. I'm terrible with languages.

I’m reading A Serious Widow (and enjoying it). Your hair has really gotten long. My hair has gotten rather long as well because I’m finding myself not wanting to cut it (I cut my own hair)! Sometimes I like it and sometimes I don’t! I wish I didn’t have to wash my hair every day, but if I don’t I just can’t do anything with it!

I love your blog but am alarmed that some of the blogs you link from your blog list feature political messages, the tone of which is very different from yours. Perhaps you are unaware, and if so, I just wanted to let you know that the titles of posts may not reflect the content.

Desert Diva said...

Some of the bloggers she links to are decidedly very liberal, which I am not, but it is interesting to read what other people think. Do you think each blogger should put their political persuasion in their own blog title so we can all march in divided lines?

Thank you Kathy! I can put it up now which is fun...and a smallish pony tail works.
I have heard that the rain has created havoc in some areas...and you mentioned that your basement was flooded which is no fun...hope it dries up soon. We are having cold weather and winds these past few weeks after the snow. BRRR want to be somewhere hot for a few days!

My mom used to cut her own hair too and she was very good at it!
I don't know if I would try it myself!
Will make note of that book and thank you for the suggestion.

I know that many bloggers write on serious topics...I prefer to write about beautiful things in our world as there are far too many terrible events and trageties occuring on a regular basis...so I stay clear of controversial subjects.

Wouldn't it be nice if we all worked together in harmony?
Political views are not a focus topic of this blog...I much prefer to choose kindness and to live life by the Golden Rule. There are hundreds, if not thousands of political bloggers out there...I am not one of them.
