What a differance a day makes...

This past week of weather has been punctuated with rain and clouds...
and when the sun makes an appearance
we rejoice!

Today was a sunny day with clear blue skies...
a perfect day for walking along the seafront.
There were crowds of people out and about walking
obviously with the same thing in mind.
The views were spactacular...Mount Baker looked like an ice cream sundae.
The frosty white snow stood out against the deeper blue of the sky and it felt so much closer than its far off location in Washington State.

Just before we were leaving for our walk I spied some crocus blooms and had to stop and take a few pictures to share with you. Mr. HB is used to me delaying our departures when a garden flower catches my attention!

Earlier in the week I stopped to capture the Hellebore Blooms

One sunny morning
the sunlight illuminated Our Humble Bungalow
bathing it in a warm and cozy glow.

Our arts and crafts bungalow is dark
due to the use of wood in the interior
and the design of the roof overhang and front porch detail.

We rely on many lights and even more lamps during the Fall and Winter.

There is salt spray from the ocean on the windows in our living room
which always surprises me as we are a block away from the ocean.
The gusty winds carry the salt spray and deposit it on anything and everything.

(I'll be calling our window washer in a few weeks.)

The Massage Therapist worked on my shoulder this week.
While the session was uncomfortable (painful)
it was so worth it
because I have more range of motion and less pain.
I plan to go every week for awhile...
I am starting to feel like a "high maintenance" woman!

We went to the Belfry for the world premiere of Forget About Tomorrow.
I highly recommend this play if you ever get the chance to see it.

In other news
our lovely DIL and I dined out one weeknight
then we headed to The VV Boutique for a peek.
(aka Value Village)

I found a silk twill scarf with hand rolled edges.
made by Vetter of Switzerland.

The scarf should go well with this top.

Hope that your weekend is ticking along nicely.
Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

Wow, Leslie, your photos are especially beautiful today!

Ooh, your new scarf is a beauty, and yes, will look chic with your top. The flowers are stunningly beautiful, and Spring must be in the air, despite the snow still about. I enjoy the interior photos of your bungalow, and noticed the green panels in the ceiling, very stylish indeed. Also your red touches in the kitchen and the bowl of red apples. You know it is so warm in our climate that I have to keep the fruit refrigerated, even in Winter, or it spoils too quickly. However, year round greenery makes up for that! Glad the shoulder is improving, always good to get help for these things.

I'm so glad to hear your shoulder is better.
The spring blooms are very encouraging! Here we have quite a few weeks of winter left, it's about 5 Fahrenheit right now, it snowed yesterday and was slippery driving trying to get all my Saturday errands done. I see some neighbors walking their dogs, but I don't want to slip and fall! My husband and I go to a close shopping mall and walk when it's like this, but I would rather be outdoors for sure.
When I saw your photo of the sea spray on the Windows, I was confused as I didn't think you lived that close to the shore. I'm amazed it affects you so far inland! Do you need to protect your house exterior besides the Windows?
I love your home, the greens/olives with the wood is lovely.
That scarf will go perfect with the stripes. I was thinking I need a new striped tee.
Take care.

The play looks excellent and reminds me of the film "Away from Her" which I highly recommend, as well. Beautiful scarf, great pattern. And your house, bathed in sunlight, looks gorgeous as always.

Sunny weather and blue skies elevate the spirits! I was downtown to the Queen E Theatre for Motown the Musical yesterday. We stood on the outside balcony during the intermission. Your new scarf will fit into your existing wardrobe well. Daughter and I visited Bon Retour, our consignment store where she found the perfect spring jeans. I wonder if
Forget about Tomorrow will ever be produced on our side of the water. Gateway Theatre, in Richmond, often presents original plays. I hope that the weather lasts.

You were quite right to stop for those lovely blooms! Isn't it funny how nice weather makes everybody go outside? Kind of primordial.
We had blazing sun yesterday but it was chilly. Today brings intermittent sun and sprinkles, but it's very mild. Il fait tout doux---means it's mild weather, but doux also means soft or sweet, and the weather is both of those, too. I could drink it up, with all its spring smells.

Your home is just so elegant! I am very envious of your sunshine and your flowers - it has snowed here for days and now we are getting icy rain on top of it all - very grey & miserable.
A friend of mine always finds beautiful scarves at VV but I have yet to visit one. There is one near to a subway stop that I could easily access so perhaps once the weather improves I'll give it a try. The scarf that you found is wonderful - and will really complement your existing wardrobe. You have wonderful taste. Enjoy the weekend.

Glad to hear your shoulder is better. I like your scarf. The blooms are beautiful, especially the crocuses, stunning colours.

Your flowers look lovely and brought a smile to my face. I have been taking icicle photos. The droplets actually have a reflection of upside down spruce trees in them. So cool (pun intended). I can't believe all of the snow we have here. I love your new scarf!

Your photos are so lovely. It was -25, -37 windchill here today so not a day for walking very far. We know winter is on the downside but sometimes these days can make spring feel very far away. We do, however, have very blue skies so that is a positive.

Thanks for the lovely flower pictures. Makes me feel like spring is soon to be here, even though we've had quite a lot of snow dumped on us over the past week. That scarf is stunning and I really like the striped top - like that longer sleeve length. I'm glad to hear that the massage is helpful for your shoulder.

Every bit of wood in your bungalow is warm and natural. I cringe when I see the TV designers painting over it.

Your little flower finds are a joy. We’re still covered in dingy snow in the north. It’s a long time until we spot colour on the ground.

What beautiful and cheering flower photographs you've taken. The salt spray on your window makes me wonder if it has any bad effect on the flowers in your garden. David Austin roses can be rather spoilt creatures!
The first photo of your home interior is delightful, you have obviously taken great care to be faithful to the history of the house. At this time of year when the sun is low in the sky, sunshine (when it appears!) beams into our rooms and highlights different objects, giving a fresh slant on our familiar space. Much as I love my home, I'm longing for improved weather so that I can be out of doors.

This is the play that John Mann's wife wrote based on him being struck by Alzheimer's? so sad-- we saw him perform at a house party on our little island a few years ago. Such a gracious and talented man. I'm hoping to see the play when it comes to the Arts Club in Vancouver. I'll bring Kleenex!

So envious of the lovely blooms. We've been having snow just about every other day. The drifts are so high at the end of the driveway I have to poke my car out slowly before making the turn onto the road. My husband will be pushing the sides back tomorrow. I love Arts & Crafts houses, but yes, they can be dark. How beautiful is the streaming sunshine. Carol in VT

The scarf was a great find!
I think a lot of people keep their fruit in the fridge here too...I like the look of the apples in a bowl on the counter and we tend to eat them up quite quickly.

My shoulder is not completely healed but it is much improved...fingers crossed it will not freeze like the other one did.
We do not do anything to the house shingles but need to have the windows washed several times a year.
Stirped tops are so versatile...hope that you find one that works for you.

The play was very well written and the acting superb...we often see plays that are "so so" and when we see one that is stellar it makes our seasons tickets worthwhile!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

The weather has been quite sunny and it has been great for our walks...
I think the play should come your way...it is based on the musician John Mann's early onset Alzheimers disease, written by his wife...he is in the band Spirirt of the West.

I agree the weather has that affect on so many people...its uplifting when we get a patch of sunny days. Love that French expresssion and thank you for sharing it with us.

Great gently used scarves are frequently found at VV...my Mother had hundred of scarves and we kept a couple and donated all the rest!!
Hope that your weather is easing up a bit now...spring is on the horizon!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Its wonderful seeing bright blooms...so many pretty bouquets at the flower shops just waiting to cheer someone up!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Those bright colours will inject some energy into your outfits...so springy!

I looked down into that puddle and saw the reflection and decided that would make a fun snapshot! Icicles can be so beautiful...

BRRR sounds chilly, hope you bundled up for your walk!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

We have a flower count here in Victoria and many people back east are still snowbound...it is rather cheeky of us to share our flower photos but they are so cheerful.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Oh this house would still be lovely if painted white inside...the character is in the design but we would never ever paint our wood!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

I don't think the flowers or roses mind a bit of salt spray...many gardeners here gather kelp from the beaches and cut it up and top dress their garden beds.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

It was based on John Mann's early onset diagnosis of Alzheimers disease...imagine seeing his band at a house party! What a treat and a great memory. The play should come to Vancouver...frequently these locally written productions go back and forth "across the pond!"

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Gosh you do have a lot of snow! I bet its quite peaceful...snow seems to muffle a lot of sounds...and if there is a blue sky above that's a bonus!
