This Hostess has been shopping ...and a few festive touches in The Humble Bungalow

I've been naughty!

Guilty YES!
I bought something for myself...

I went into the store "just to browse"
I tried on a few cozy sweaters and perused the racks of the Saint James section, Royal Robbins and then the Eileen Fisher group of garments.

A tunic top for tall gals but a dress for short me.
The hem sits slightly above the knee and it drapes so well
the fabric is super soft and it flatters without clinging.

The WIN thrift shop did not disappoint either...

French Dressing shirt in black and white...
great for white pants or black skinny ponte knit pants.
Also the black and white Hermes scarf, probably my favourite will look great tied at the neck.

There are a few festive touches here in The Humble Bungalow.
We don't do a lot of decorating but we have a tree lit with white lights
 a peachy pink poinsettia
candles
wee trees on the mantle with the Ojibwa duck decoys.

Sadly we are unable to put our vintage glass baubles on the tree because the cats undress the tree and bat the ornaments around and they break...

Please excuse our messy fireplace

Some silver baubles from my childhood home with two vintage silver pieces.

White fairy lights and the silver balls on the front rose arbour.

Our wee tree with white fairy lights on the front porch.

Reindeer votive holders
glitter cones
sit atop
our silver tray
which was a wedding gift.

The seniors turkey luncheon at the club was a lot of work but such fun.
Those of us who volunteered were treated to lunch and a glass of wine
which we ate while the choir performed
then we served the desserts and tea and coffee
before washing up all the dishes.
This year there were 80 seniors in attendance...it is one of the many fundraisers that we have at the club.

We were thrilled to go to our darling granddaughter Isla's school
where we watched the annual winter concert.

How are your holiday plans shaping up?

Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow
Merry Christmas!

I love Eileen Fisher pieces! I bought two tops and some jeggings in New York and I wear them to work often. It is worth waiting for a sale. Your shirt is great! Petite people seem to have an advantage in our local consignment store. My daughter (-105 lbs.) finds so many great things to wear. Your simple decorations are lovely. Because we live in an apartment, I favour the minimalist style. Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

I LOVE both of your new clothing choices.

The bungalow looks very festive for the season. The lights are so pretty and my favorite part of the holiday.

I have been very naughty too, indulging myself in gifts. On Christmas morning it is only Miss Twiggley and I so I started buying us both gifts to open. Later in the day I go over to my daughters for dinner and gift exchanges.

Meanwhile I must get busy because I have 14 people coming over for dinner on Christmas Eve.

A very, very Merry Christmas to you!

ps. When going through my recipes the other day I came across your scone recipe. I really must make it as I am sure it is excellent. Thank you.

Love your purchases (all of them would fit quite nicely in my wardrobe)! :-)
And your home looks beautiful - both inside and out. Christmas is low key this year - I'm going to friends for Christmas Eve and then a couple of other friends will come to me for brunch on Christmas morning. I will entertain again after the New Year but will visit with others during the next week. I am also looking forward to a couple of days with some lovely treats and some new books.
Merry Christmas to you and your family and thank you for all your lovely posts throughout the year.

I don't usually comment, though I love your blog. Your Christmas decorations are lovely. One thing you might try sometime is tying your ornaments onto your tree instead of using hooks. The ornaments should stay secure if you tie them tightly enough.

I would love to have your South Granville EF shop in Victoria...but it might be a wee bit hard on my budget!!!
I see oodles of lovely things in small sizes and I am not a "small" woman although I am short which is considered a Petite size which almost feels like an oxymoron!
Happy New Year to you!

My Mother would approve wholeheartedly of my recent naughty spree!
When I find a great piece to add to my wardrobe I do wear them a LOT!

Have you read any of Selina Lake's decorating books? She uses a lot of things from nature and I like this trend rather than buying mass produced things made in factories...plus they are less expensive and we can recycle them rather than trying to find a place to store them when they are not in use!

I have been busy and just got to my computer this afternoon to read my email and blogs...it feels like ages... but family and entertaining come first!
Hope that your week is going well....we had a White Christmas this year! It was so beautiful watching the snow falling...the first white Christmas in Victoria for about 15 years!
Best wishes for the New Year Margie.

I don't even feel guilty for spending a bit on my wardrobe this year...we have to pounce when the "right piece" presents itself! Happy Holidays.

Oh if that would work I would certainly be interested but our little cat...Chester, aka "The Troublemaker" is into absolutely everything! He is not deterred easily...in fact he ate some of my wool as I was sitting knitting and chewed right through it in seconds! I got to a wet piece as I was finishing the row and saw it had been severed...I think he would just chew any string that we used to tie on the ornaments! But thank you for the suggestion...

I like to keep things simple and it is super easy getting dressed when lots of things, separates in the same colour palate work together.
