Cottage Life...the views from Quarter Deck Cottage

Roses from The Humble Bungalow.

Cheers!

Cottage holidays are new to us and we are both enjoying the slow pace.
We eat simple meals, walk, swim, explore the island and read our books.

The Saturday Farmer's Market is super popular...
Wonderful fresh produce from Raven Rock Farm and there is a stall run by a French baker who makes delicious pain au chocolat and breads.
Another stall is run by a meat pie chef who is also involved in catering local events.

There are stalls with crafts, jewelry, pottery, leather goods, teas, jams, and more...

There is a line up before the 9:30 start with eager shoppers and their array of beautiful baskets.

The view from our deck of the Arbutus trees and The Salish Sea.

Lunchtime and salad makings from the market.
(I didn't eat the bread!)

A glass of rose from the local Sea Star Winery.

Keeping cool on the deck with the gentle ocean breeze.

The candle holders are a vintage modernist design by Timo Sarpaneva
glass fish floats and a yellow David Austin Graham Thomas rose
atop an IKEA tray on the cottage dining table.

Pink sunsets

Arbutus tree with the peeling bark seen on one of our walks.

Toes poolside...
OPI Do You Sea What I Sea?
My current goal is to swim 20 laps every day.

Pretty red and white flowered planter
brought from home to encourage the hummingbirds to visit.
They are attracted to red and a few visit the red geraniums on the front porch of the cottage.

Dinner salad

New book which is totally engaging...
but I must sign off for now as we are expecting the family to arrive and I have a list of things to get done.

Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow.
or rather The Quarter Deck Cottage!

Before I sign off I
Thought that you might find this amusing...
saw this at the Pender Island Golf Course on my walk.

Hope you have a weekend filled with good things.

The Quarter Deck Cottage looks lovely-you have a great view
As I love salads very much during the summer (the high temperatures simply require lighter meals-to cook or too eat),they all look very inviting for me
It is so interesting and exciting to start exploring your new neighbourhood, isn't it?
How high are the temperatures?
Have a nice vacation

This looks so relaxing!! This is why we go to our farm. We do the same thing you do in your cottage----relax, make simple meals, have a glass or wine, read, listen to music. I wish we were there right now!

The cottage looks charming. Wonderful for your family. Enjoy the easy slow pace at the lake.
Our farmers' market is fantastic. I went this morning and came home with too much. Fresh green and yellow beans, blueberries, cantaloupe and the last of the strawberries.
Have a nice weekend!

Oh, I was inspired by your blog (Canada Day, I think) and I reserved 7 books with garden in the title. Right now, it is The Lost Garden by Kate Morton. I just did a keyword search and chose the most likely books. Quarterdeck looks lovely and I was telling a friend who wants a summer cottage that this might be the way to go. Her daughter lives in East Sooke and she would love a place for the family without the upkeep. I'm trying to swim with my daughter (the amazing shrinking woman) because swimming is such a good non-impact mode of exercise. Are you managing the laps? I'm really enjoying the salads right now. Joyeux Jour de Bastille!

We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful spot. We don't need to go far to find an idyllic place to relax...it might be our own front porch or garden.

Salads are so easy and delicious. The temperature is hovering between 16 and 24 right now. Exploring is definitely fun!

We are much busier now that the grandchildren have arrived! Lots of pool time and play...snacks and meals are bigger too!

We are feeding all the family since they arrived and so we needed more food and the market had oodles of lovely fresh veggies. Great knowing we are supporting the local farmers and buying healthy food.

I find that being surrounded by nature is so important to my well being. I have been so fortunate to have been born in a lovely place where one need not go far to find beauty.

I wondered if I should plant a rose here at the cottage! Might do that next spring!

The kids came by boat but I came by ferry so that we had a car on the island. It's a wee bit too far to walk to the grocery store and carrying all the groceries would be too tough!

Hope you enjoyed the Moss Street paint in!

I enjoyed that book by Kate Morton. I have been good about doing my laps and I feel like I have accomplished something important! Please feel free to give your friend my email should she want any more information on the cottages here at Otter Bay.

It's a great place to get the family together for a holiday. There are quite a few young families here and the pool has been very popular!

It is a fun spot Pondside! The grandchildren are having a lot of fun too!

My reading has slowed a bit since the family arrived but I am making progress and enjoying the humour in this book!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Oh I must add that title to my reading list...busy here too now the grandchildren have arrived! My garden will be a mess by the time I get back! I will have tons to do...but in the meantime I will enjoy this holiday.

It's a lovely spot with a fabulous view. You must have had a similar vista when you lived up Island. Have you had any more thoughts on where you want to live?

Sigh.....I feel relaxed just scrolling slowly through your post.

It looks absolutely perfect Leslie ...so happy for you that you've found such a great place to spend time with Mr HB and your family. I'm spending a week in a small village in Cornwall, staying in a house right at the waters edge with amazing views and a verandah where I'm happy to spend time from early morning coffee until it's time for a glass of wine!
This is also the reason I'm here as "anonymous" as I'm having some tech problems! :)
Take care and enjoy every moment ....I know that you will!
Rosie
ps love your new dress in your last post ...perfect for hot and humid days.

You can never have too many roses! It would be nice to have a rose at the cottage. I saw the most beautiful wild rose (Alberta wild rose). A huge rose in front of the trunk of a spruce tree. Made a great photo. Inspiration for home, too!

Thank you Rebecca...its a fun place to share with the family and we are having fun in the pools and exploring the island.

I loved seeing the picturesque views of Cornwall on the Doc Martin series on PBS.
It must be a lovely spot for a holiday....enjoy every second!

I bought some lavender and think I will plant some as the deer do not seem to be attracted to it...they have not munched the geraniums that I popped into pots on the front porch which has surprised me too. Wild roses are plentiful here on the island we see huge clumps of them growing at the sides of the roads.
