Hanging around...

This week has been quiet and I am grateful that I have not had too many things on my calendar.
It feels like the calm after the storm, a welcome respite, a tonic if you will...

I have been walking and reading and keeping the house tidy.
My friend and I took in a cooking class at The London Chef which was such fun...
so much so that I plan to do a blog post telling you all about it.

I've seen some beautiful and unusual things on my walks this week...

I stopped to capture this image of a tree trunk on Hollywood Crescent.
I love the texture and colours...Mother Nature really knows her stuff!

Gorgeous Earthy tones...

a spot of colour

LOOK what I saw when I walked along May Street!

not an ordinary tree

imagination and decoration
quirky
perhaps
it makes a statement
but I am not too sure what it means...

what I thought of was
"Hang in There"

Thank you to Lizzie who sent us a link to this tree story...watch it here.

I hope you are hanging in there too!
Have a fabulous weekend.

I appreciate the quirkiness and creativity, but for some reason old doll parts really creep me out. :-) Glad you're getting a bit of restorative down time, and am looking forward to your recap of the cooking class! How's Pepper doing??

What lovely (and quriky) things you found on your walk. I love the soft pink sky and the flowers and the strange bark (is it a plane tree?). I think the sky and bark would make lovely paintings.

I agree with 'une femme' - creepy doll heads are a little scary ! Enjoy your 'down time' - this is a good time of year to hibernate... I enjoy your blog so much - always look forward to a new post !

I too found the doll tree somewhat disturbing. I first thought of "strange fruit" - from the trees where lynchings took place in the south. But they're just dolls, so perhaps a more innocent interpretation is best.

I'm envious of your flowers blooming outside already. We've got at least another month of freezing temperatures ahead of us in Toronto.

My first thought was the same as yours Northmoon. I would have run away screaming when I was child. The sight of broken or disfigured dolls still disturbs me.

Oh my goodness! I find the tree art quirky and enchanting. :) My previous home was painted in those exact shades of terracotta and green.

Pepper seems back to her former healthy and contented self...she is snoozing on the couch right now.

I had to look up plane trees on the internet...it is not one of those but a maple of some kind. I know this because there are maple shaped leaves that fall off in the fall.

Thank you Patricia, I appreciate your feedback!

It does make me curious as to who is the creator of the display...and what if anything it is representative of...I prefer to think it is an innocent creative statement.

I played with Barbie, Midge, Ken and Skipper as a child and I remember taking the shears to Midge's blonde hair and cropping it and she looked so freaky after that I could not play with her anymore!

It's quite surprising that I have not noticed this before...I walk along that stretch of road regularly. It may be a recent installation...I will make certain to ask questions if I see someone in the garden when I pass!

Love the pictures of the tree bark.
The doll tree was on the news the other night. Quite an innocent story really. They didn't say where it was and I wondered, now I know. Thanks for that Leslie Here is a link for those of you that would like more info http://vancouverisland.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=539775

My granddaughter plays with my old Barbie, Allen and Midge dolls, as well as some of her mothers old ones. SOme don't have heads but she does not seem to mind. The clothes are falling apart too but again it does not bother her. She is only 4 though.

I walked on May St this morning but probably didn't go far enough as I completely missed the decorated tree. What an imagination someone has! I hope Pepper is recovering.

I must have missed that news broadcast...thank you I am going to watch it now!

Pepper seems happy and appears to be healthy...we must try for a walk soon.
I know that you are super busy but if you have a wedge of time I'd love to see you.

That tree trunk is gorgeous! And I enjoyed the video, and her purpose just "to delight," not anything morbid.
I read back over a few posts, and see that your kitty has been ill; so glad to hear she is on the road to recovery. And I love those red ballet flats. Tres chic.

That tree is very Toy Story;). But a walk is almost, almost always good.

I do agree with you. I've always found dolls, and especially parts of dolls, really scary. And having them hanging is even worse.

I love the way your eye is always open to the beauties of your surroundings. And the bark is utterly lovely. Janice might do a wardrobe...

I think that is a Paperbark Maple

I thought of Toy Story, too! Creepy but sweet...how can that be? Your spring-y photos are greatly appreciated...we are expecting a high of -21 tomorrow. Sigh.

What an interesting tree-I haven't seen that before. I always enjoy the quirky things I find from time to time on my walks. Have a lovely weekend.

Janice designed a wardrobe on her recent post using a winter scene as her inspiration...so I'd love to see what she might suggest if she saw this tree bark.

I'm glad your week has been a quiet one, especially after your scare with Pepper. It's hard to know what to say about those dolls. I would have been tempted to knock on the door and ask about them.
