We went out on Friday night to The Oak Bay Beach Hotel pub for a quick bite and stayed up late watching the TV so we slept in on Saturday morning and had a lazy start to the day.
I went to browse the local Target store...aka "the RED STORE" as Isla calls it...
sadly they are closing all the Canadian stores and I am so very disappointed.
I have shopped there more than any other retailer since they opened. I purchased all kinds of things from...toys, bedding, clothes for the grandchildren, kitchen tools, linens, pillows, candles, home decor items to cards and books.
Sunday we had the grandchildren over for a visit and served up some comforting tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches with ketchup...
Henry and Isla both love to chase the cats around our bungalow and they laugh and squeal with delight...
the cats are not used to this pace and got wise to the game and made a hasty retreat downstairs and stayed there until they left.
Grammy and Grampa had a super fun time!
I made a pot roast for dinner...
It's the easiest recipe ever...
I served it with parsnips, carrots, peas and "gravy" made from the cooking stock thickened with a bit of cornstarch mixed with water.
It was just the two of us for dinner but we lit the candles and sat at the dining room table...
not quite Downton Abbey but civilized nevertheless!
OOTD
Lands' End tunic in black and white stripes
Nygaard ponte knit pants
Mee Too black ballet flats
I have wanted to find red shoes to add some pizazz to my small shoe collection
so when I ordered the Thermacore capris from Lands' End I ordered some red ballet flats.
Harvest Tomato is the name of the shade of the Bianca flats...
They look nice with our kitchen rug...
In the style of the iconic Repetto's from France...
and as a bonus they are currently on sale so they are "budget friendly."
I'm wearing them to French class

g21 denim skinny jeans
Dex grey bulky knit sweater
Burberry scarf.
I'm feeling more energetic and incredibly optimistic today
and Hooray for the sunshine!
Hope your week is off to a great start!

There was a smudge on your recipe card. How many pounds is the blade roast? I love Target too. Lots of nice things there. Sorry you are going to lose yours.
I think those red shoes are perfect for you. Could do some coral, or chartreuse even;).
The red shoes are perfect! You can wear them with any of your wardrobe items and they provide an upbeat look. I walked today and it was so warm. We are so lucky to have some blue sky days.
If you remember me, and how much I adore red...especially red shoes!! Nice way to "punch" up an outfit ;)
Love the red shoes on you. Have never been into a Target!
Your mantle looks so lovely . I would love a pair of red ballet flats , one day I will find a pair I am happy with . I think yours would drive me crazy though , they do not look like they fit well , I don't think you should see the tops of your toes , the top of the shoe should cover that . Pretty shoes though. Donna
Darling shoes, and hopefully comfortable. I love the striped Lands End tunic...ordered one after you featured it on your blog before the holidays and there weren't many sizes left. I think what I needed was a petite length, but they were out. It looks so cute on you, I may have to look again to see if there is more inventory.
I had heard about the closing of the Canadian Target stores. I can't believe it! I am at Target many times per week. I'm sorry to hear that.
Andrea
How sad that Target is closing in Canada! I was told once, when decorating, check out Pottery Barn and then go to Target to buy something similar at a better price.
Love your Land's End "repettos". I have several pairs of Land's End ballerinas that I wear constantly.
I love Target in the US; and haven't even stepped foot inside the Canadian stores. I was surprised to hear they're closing. Maybe they should have hired the Zellers staff, instead of excluding them from applying. My SIL lost her 20 plus years with Zellers job when Target came to town.
I love the red shoes! I think everyone should have a pair of red shoes - just for fun.
Ooh, love those yummy red ballet flats!
Oops! a 3 pound pot roast is required for this recipe.
I could do other colours...but I need to keep my shoe collection in check or I could be in serious trouble!
It was lovely here too and when I woke up at 4 am with the sound of torrential rain on the roof I was not expecting any sunshine...a gift to see the sun !
It's a great weight too...not sure that it will make the carry on to Paris though...
I do Sonya...of course I do!
Red suits you with your blonde hair and fine complexion...
BTW....congratulations to you and Jim.
Grandbabies are such a wonderful gift!
I had only been inside Target 3 times when we vacationed in the US...but they did have some great merchandise here...and less than a year later in our city they will be leaving...not that I buy enough to keep them solvent but I did my best!
I think you are referring to the "toe cleavage" they fit well and I don't mind being a little "sexy" at my age...but to each his/her own!
You might consider emailing Land's End as they do appreciate feedback and they frequently respond...they often will restock more if the item(s) are poplular...plus it helps them to plan for the next season.
I wore the flats today and they were incredibly comfortable...
I'd love to pop into Pottery Barn but we need to hop on a ferry to shop there...and soon we'll need to go to the USA to go to Target.
My concern now is what are all these vast retail soon to be empty spaces going to become? Perhaps Target was a bit hasty pulling the plug.
It's sad when people have devoted so much time and energy working for a company and they lose their jobs...it must be devastating.
I agree....it's been several years since I've owned a pair...I love them so much and wear them so frequently that they never last too long!
I hope you've got a pair too Pondside...let's enjoy all the cheer we can get with the simple things in life.
Merci beaucoup une femme... :-))
Love the new red flats!. Next up, matching red lipstick and voilá!
Regards, Luciana from Edmonton (another red shoe lover)
Why is Target closing in Canada?! That seems crazy. The first salon I worked in was in close proximity to a "test market" Target, as in that store carried every item of every line. It was serious trouble for bored hairstylists on breaks!
I'm going to make that pot roast! The recipe sounds perfect for my desire to cook simple and healthy foods. Thank you.
I posted a comment before but for some reason it didn't go through. I wanted to thank you, I have been looking for some red flats for a long time. I immediately ordered a pair of these after reading your post. I almost ordered the leopard print ones too but I need to make sure I am selecting the right size. So...again, thank you! They are so cute.
Thanks for the roast recipe. I'm going to give it a try. I have never managed to cook a decent roast. Maybe this will be my "recipe for success." :-)
I meant to comment on a previous post about travel clothes, and now can't remember if I did or not. One thing that I've done when going to the UK is to buy something I needed, but didn't want to pack in my luggage, at a thrift store once I arrived (in the UK they cal them charity shops). Then at the end of the trip I just left it at the B&B we were staying at, and they were happy to rethrift it. I have no idea if they have thrift shops in Paris, but if they do it might be something to consider.
Apparently they have lost a billion dollars this year...there were quite a few "issues" I have not got all the details but one that I heard was that sales flyers would come out and there would be little or no stock available. Whenever I went there it would be almost void of shoppers and there would be lots of staff and they seemed happy to help. I wonder if they underestimated the market here or if they set their sales goals too high for the first year...in any case I am disappointed that they are pulling out of Canada.
I have looked online for thrift shops in Paris...not finding very much but they do have consignment shops and the Flea Markets.
YOUR RED BALLET FLATS are just in time for the CUPID DAY!!!
