Lovely things...

Have you discovered the functionality and loveliness of linen?
If not, please consider the benefits of this hardy fabric and textile.

It holds a place of honour, that seriously borders on royalty, here in The Humble Bungalow.

Linen tea towels and dish cloths are pretty.
The dish cloths stay fresh and don't carry odors, they are slightly abrasive so they make quick work of washing up.
Love the way that they look and perform.
Call me a snob if you like, even the Mister is not convinced, but they do pass muster...
I "luff them 24/7"

Wooden Ships cowl necked sweater...
in a wool blend
found in a thrift shop
perhaps a great piece to take on the plane?

An antidote to "life's tough stuff"
I'm loving a shot of colour in my daily round.
It's been foggy and damp these past few mornings.

I was walking down town...
when I stopped in my tracks
to capture this image.
Blues can be so bold and beautiful.

A Punch of Pink on a grey day look even brighter against the gloom.
These last rose blooms herald Fall,
as it settles in to shroud us with colder weather.

Lovely mossy mounds in a garden a block from The Humble Bungalow.
I'd like to know more about these as I'd quite like to have some in my front garden.
Anyone have any thoughts as to what type of moss this might be?

We have moss growing on the patio...
I love the five pin bowling balls as they offer up a wee bit of whimsy in the garden.

My sister and I took Mom out to Brentwood Bay for some shopping earlier in the week.
We had dinner on the outdoor patio at the Brentwood Bay Resort and Spa

such a lovely setting!

The food was beautifully presented and delicious.

I opted for the crab cakes and they were huge!

My sister loves quinoa salad and this one looked amazing.

Mother decided on the charcuterie...
it was a wonderful outing for all of us and I am so happy that Mother enjoys these shared mother daughter dates.

I have been on a bit of a buying binge.
It started so innocently with a bar of soap...
which seemed to prime the pump
I've got some new things to show off in an upcoming post.

But for now I've got to go...
laundry is waiting, the dishwasher needs emptying and wouldn't you know it's the maid's day off!

Love linen! I grew up with linen tea-towels, from the Irish Linen Shop, of course! It was always on the "must visit" list when we went to Victoria for the weekend (Sydney Reynolds was on the list too - I feel sad to think it is no longer around...)

Linen is a wonderful fabric - loved around here for table cloths, too, in spite of the need for ironing.

My maid is always taking the day off -- what's with that? haha. Do you mean, I luff them 11/10?? I'm an FF follower too, :) I just bought some 'spensive (another FF) linen sheets. They are fabulous. Looking at bath sheets too. Linen is wonderful, and won't get that moldy smell. I love those mossy clumps, too.

What a lovely post! I love moss growing here and there. We transplant it at our farm. I look for it in the forest and move it close to our house. I'm alway delighted when it is doing well.

LOVE the cowl neck sweater. You have some very fine thrift shops!

And soap--it is a weakness of mine. I buy a crate of L'Occitane soap every year when a local charity garners a discount from many shops as a fundraiser for their cause. We bathe in fine soap all year long. Profligate? Maybe. But worth it!

Your lunches looks delicious.

I forgot to mention linen. My favorite dish towels are all linen. They dry the best! Also, we have slept on linen sheets for more than a decade now. We could not go back. We love them as they are warm in winter and cool in summer.

I'm a big fan of linen as I've discovered it's in my blood with my patrilineal line 18th Century flax growers in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland..so I'll stay with the family firm. Gorgeous view of that harbor and those crab cakes Hostess.

What a coincidence, it's the maid's day off here too! Love the cowl neck sweater, what a find.

So nice to spend a day with the girls of the family! I notice that you often write "mother" instead of "mom," do you call her "mother" or do you call her "mom" (or by another name) when you talk to her?

What a lovely day for you girls! The food, the view, the company...beyond compare. Color is always good. Your photos are lovely! Must be a universal coincidence...also the maid's day off here, too!

I love the antique linen that I can buy at the markets here where I live in France. I have a sheet that I use as a table cloth and some table napkins. The embroidery can be gorgeous. You are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. I love that you all enjoy being near the water, just like we Australians.

I am partial to lovely soap too although I never use it on myself as I find it too drying. I do, however, love to pop it in the linen cupboard to scent the sheets and towels. Tonkath

I enjoy French soap and linen clothing. Even if its rumpled. The shoes that you are wearing (gold sneakers) look like some that I bought in Paris two years ago. The dressy sneaker is great. Those pops of colour just go on and on. Once the fog lifts here, we're having very sunny afternoons.

They are indeed gold sneakers and I have had them for several years...I bought them in Seattle at the Nordstrom Rack.

I shop at The Irish Linen shop frequently...love the Irish linens that they carry.
Sidney Reynolds was an institution in town and it was sad to see it close.

I actually like ironing linens...I find it very soothing!

Of course you are right...what was I thinking?

I love soaps too...especially triple milled French soap.
L'Occitane make some wonderful products.

I have looked at linen sheets and have been hobbled by the costs...Rough Linen have beautiful stock and I would really love to sleep in them but I cannot indulge in them until after I have returned from Paris...perhaps the brocantes will yield a pair of vintage Belgium linen sheets!

The sneakers are made by Born from Nordstroms in Seattle and several years old...
my gosh it was foggy most of the day today. Almost need to put the furnace on!
