Walk the Walk...OOTD

My walking partner and I ventured out on our bi-weekly 10K walk.
We planned to walk in between the rain and got caught smack dab in the middle of a thunder and lightning storm.
The torrents of rain came down so fast we had nowhere to take shelter and we stood under the canopy of trees hoping not to get the full force of the storm.
I was worried about lightning strikes though and suggested maybe we make a dash for home...
which we did but it took us about 30 minutes to return.

We got totally soaked right through our coats, shoes, and socks.
Walking with a squeaky squish squish sound on each step.
We were complaining to each other loudly and laughing rather hysterically at how wet we were...
and it was of some comfort that we were not the only fools out in the path of the storm.

Think of two people jumping into a pool with all their clothes on and you'll get the idea of our dampened state!

OOTD
This is how I looked before I left...
my Mondetta jacket was layered underneath my "water resistant" jacket with a tee underneath
Gap jeans rolled up twice with Lands" End trail shoes and padded cotton Hanes sports socks.

My hair was presentable before the deluge...

This stone sits in the Humble Bungalow garden.

Boot weather is a' comin...
my Sperry boots are ready by the door.

Puddles await...

~ I'm so grateful for ~
soap and hot running water.

bath salts

fluffy white towels
and
music

No music will be playing for awhile...
One of the cats has been very naughty and chewed through several of the wires of the cord to the plug.
We think it was Pepper as she likes to bite on cords and yarn...
several years ago
she pulled on her stitches after her spay surgery
I stayed awake two nights with her trying to keep the cat "cone" on her head so she would be safe.

She looks quite innocent here...
appearances can be deceiving.

My radio is on most of the day tuned to the CBC but all is quiet and will be until my new adaptor arrives.

I've got my eyes on a pair of red shoes for the fall...
I am going to be very very frugal and buy very little so that the Paris account will be growing and ready for next Spring.

I find it much easier to save when I have a tangible goal...
these would be fun to wear on the streets of Paris with a pretty scarf knotted at my neck.

What is on your list of things to buy for the fall?

MIssing in Action...

Hope you have enjoyed a great week...

Mr. HB and I took a wee bit of time off to gunk hole in the Gulf Islands aboard our Sea Ray.
The weather was stupendous, the food delicious, the pools warm and the books divine.
I bet you never even noticed my lack of posts I was totally offline...MIA.

Gowland Point Beach a 30 minute walk from Poet's Cove at Bedwell Harbour, on Pender Island.

Our summertime custom,
which quickly became a habit was to sip a cocktail, nibble some food and play crib.

Do you know what this is?

We got in a few long walks to "help negate" happy hour cocktails and the appies that we munched with gay abandon.
I gained 5 pounds even with the swimming and walking so will be back and vigilant on the WW points system and pounding the pavement when I can see above the pile of laundry in the basement!

It's a car stop...with no transit on the island and one taxi this is how the non walkers get around.
No need to hitch hike just stand and wait for the next car to stop.

Darling daughter and I did this a couple of years ago and were picked up by the most eccentric woman I have ever had the pleasure of conversing with...
oh and her very shaggy wet and drooling doggies shared the back seat with us!

There were a few wildlife sightings at dusk.

Some seaweed encounters...

A fascinating read which BTW is the third book I have read in 10 days!

I wish that I had invented Zip Loc bags...
they are a galley slave's best friend.

Our salmon is marinating in garlic, diced ginger, green onions, soy sauce and a pinch of sugar.
I usually use maple syrup but had none on board so I had to be creative.

"One Pot Wonders"
are the name of the game on board with one burner.
We are fortunate enough to have a microwave and a BBQ.
I try to keep the meals simple.

My pedicure is still intact but many of the crystals have fallen off my flip flops...
(too many salty beach walks)
I will be replacing these before next summer.

We celebrated Henry's first birthday this afternoon and he is the most adorable blond boy in the entire universe...
I am feeling very mellow despite the fact that I am dealing with a mountain of laundry.

But you all know how much I LOVE doing laundry!

and dishes...using pure linens.

Will be back in jiff...
thanks for stopping by.

Behind the scenes...I lead an very un-glamourous life!

Life here in The Humble Bungalow seems to revolve around washing up...
are your hands always in hot water?

"The Glove" is back!
It has been MIA on the blog for quite sometime but that doesn't mean that it was not playing a high profile role in the day to day home keeping tasks helping The Hostess with her domestics.

I spend a lot of time at the sink and in the laundry room tending to the laundry.
I admit that I am a bit obsessed about the laundry and have developed respect for the stalwart LG workhorses that work overtime in the basement.

It pays to have the tools on hand.

A great product that I recommend highly...

Ecologically and environmentally friendly.

Not everyone is a fan of "the glove!"
Chester punctured holes in the thumb...
well I guess that's just the high cost of doing business.

These domestic "helpers" are revered here...

Up the creek without a paddle?
Not this Hostess.
I can sit and gaze out the window...
but only AFTER I do the ironing.

Pepper keeps me company...

as does Chester!

I like to hang a lot of my clothes to air dry.
I think it keeps them looking new longer...no pilling.

The LG washing machine has a fine woolen setting which is wonderful for my cashmere sweaters.

Having a designated work space is essential to my domestic regime.
Some of the on going tasks required are dirty jobs...
and no one really notices them but me.
Yet they are important for me as I prefer keeping on top of things.

Look who is on the job as we speak!

Someone is purr-fectly content....

Well no more dilly-dallying I must get back to the tasks at hand...

Hope you are having a fabulous week.
Thank you for stopping by my blog...I really enjoy your comments so don't be shy to share your thoughts.

I'll have cream with that please...

Taking Tea is a daily ritual and I boil the kettle many times over the course of the day.
Packets and tins of Decaf Typhoo, Twinnings Earl Grey, Silk Road assorted blends, Murchies Golden Jubilee and Harrods Stronger Tea and English Breakfast fill my tea cabinet.

Coffee on the other hand is an occasional treat and I prefer a decaf Americano in which I must use cream.
Cream is rich and higher on the WW point scale so it is with moderation that I indulge...
cream is a rich shade and one that I am drawn to like a moth to a flame.
Perhaps that is why I adore the lustrous nacre of pearls.

I collect vintage cream ware.
McCoy, Beswick, Weller and a few other makers.

I have whittled down my cream ware collection and kept only my favourite pieces.

Pottery from Thetis Island
made by a woman named Nice.
I was immediately drawn to the aquatic nature of her work.

Arts and Crafts Weller pottery.
I bought this at an auction...
I was so excited that I raised my hand and bid against myself which was extremely embarrassing.

This Weller piece was acquired by absentee bid...
I had learned my lesson the hard way!

I love this cheerful pin which is fun to wear in the summertime.
The pin is unsigned and I have no idea who might have made it but that does not diminish my appreciation for it's beauty and design.
While it might look good against this carpet on the cat platform it looks much better on a jacket.

I opted to wear it on my Gap denim jacket white tee and jeans and paired it with some gold sandals by Franco Sarto.

These orchid blooms are technically white
they take on a creamy disposition when placed beside the dark wood panelling and offer a source of cheer.

Orchids are such a great value and these easy to grow phalaenopsis or window sill orchids are your best bet if you are a novice orchid keeper.

They are often on sale and less expensive than a bouquet of flowers and they bloom for months on end and re bloom if you water them once a week and keep them on a bright window out of direct sunlight.
They like humidity so they are happy above a kitchen sink or in a bathroom or in our case near a single paned window on the south side of the house where draughts are common.

As I am saving in earnest for my trip to Paris I will be thinking of ways to add luxury without breaking the bank.
Having a few orchids in the bungalow feels like a wee bit of luxury and on a shoestring budget.
Shoestring being a relative term and it does depend on your circumstances...
what might be a shoestring for me would be different for others and visa versa.

Give yourself permission to indulge in a few luxurious moments of reflection...
think about all that you have to be grateful for in your life
perhaps you'll be taking tea in a beautiful china patterned tea cup
or sipping a coffee with cream
you might be at a cafe watching the world go by...
you might be fortunate enough to be seated at a sidewalk cafe in Paris!

"Luxury is anything you don't need, right? I mean, you need food, water, clothing, shelter... but good wine, good food, beautiful interiors, nice clothes; those aren't necessities, they are luxuries - it's all luxury."

~ Marc Jacobs ~
