Silver is shiny enough that a crow might want it, bold enough so it is not boring.
I'm embracing the days as I wait for my new hip.
The days seem long and I crave distractions...
the kettle is boiling 24/7 as tea is my tasty elixir.
I have lost 20 pounds...
The new jeans are feeling roomy and I am not wanting to buy more.

Can one have too many denim shirts?
(I now have 3)
The 5 year old thrifted Old Navy shirt, the pale Gap shirt new from last year
and now this Eileen denim shirt from Frank & Eileen.
The neckline is lower...the shirt is distressed...
it can be worn as a layer overtop of a camisole for a feminine flair.
Plus it is "pearl friendly!"
Accessories continue to add interest in my wardrobe.

Look at those dirty windows!
All the street work and winter wind storms have made a mess of our windows.
Now look at that hyacinth...it's a beauty.
oh and the fragrance...
Speaking of fragrance...
I've bought incense...the same incense that I burned when I was a teenager!
Surprised they still make it after all these years.

Reading The Lying Game by Ruth Ware
it's good so far and I am reading it slowly
my mind is not as focused as it usually is so I am re-reading sections.
I think I am starting to come to terms with the fact that I am going to be having major surgery and undergoing anesthetic...
there is the unknown pain factor post op which I am a little unsettled about too.
The strong prescription drugs are foreign to me so that is another issue altogether.
Basically
trying to avoid these niggling thoughts and using as many distractions as possible
to pass my days without obsessing about things which are unknown
things that i have no control over.
I need to have faith.
That's all for now...
not sure when I will post again?
I might not have lots to say as I plan to cocoon in February.
Thank you for stopping by...
Hope that you are staying sane
not stressing too much about stuff that is beyond your control.

Good luck with your surgery. Try not to stress too much. Everyone I know who has had hip surgery has been so happy they did it!
You look perfect in the denim shirts. I don't think you could possibly have too many.
Try not to worry. And distract yourself, as you have been, with pleasant things. But not too much of the Whittikars chocolate (it's my favorite too. Though it has become expensive here in NZ). You are right, much of it is out of your control, so why not err on the side of optimism, that it will all be alright?. If it's not, you can deal with that if you have to. It sounds like you have a supportive family. Since I am here, I want to thank you for your posts. Which are always a source of consistent pleasure and comfort to me. I wish you the same care and comfort that you bring to others. All the very best for your operation. I look forward to hearing from you when you are ready. Kind Regards.
My hip surgery via ReBalance in Victoria was amazingly painless. You are in good hands and my only advice is to follow the instructions regarding pre-op exercise, pain medication schedule, post-op movement, and rehab exercises diligently. Ice packs were very helpful for the first week—two pads (one in the freezer and one in use) — since they kept the post-op swelling and discomfort to a minimum. I wasn’t used to taking pain medication but I found that taking the prescribed medication as scheduled BEFORE I felt I needed it was key to a painless recovery. The ReBalance group really know what they are doing so trust their advice. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!
I'm sure it will all be worth it when the op is over and done with Lesie! I have a couple of friends who have had hips replaced and it all went very well. I hope the same for you and a speedy recovery.
Thank you for these lovely reflections. Those of us who are fortunate enough to experience a silver bad times are lucky indeed. I have heard from multiple friends that hip replacements tend to go quite well. But I would share your concerns about upcoming surgery, were I in your situation. Thank you for the reminder that a pot of tea is often the best remedy!
I’ve heard quite often that hip replacements tend to go quite well. Everyone that I know who has had one has been up and about within days. But never having had a surgery, I would also be anxious. Thank you for the lovely reminder that a pot of tea is often the best remedy! ~ avicennia
Good luck with your surgery, keeping positive thoughts always helps. Stay strong you've got this.
You have done so well with your preparation for surgery. Twenty pounds is a significant loss and will help your recovery. It is a bit scary to face surgery after a life of good health. January and February are good month for cocooning.
Good luck on the acquisition of a new hip. I think you'll do very well. I have many friends who've had one, and wondered afterwards why they didn't do it sooner. You're a big step ahead because you've been so active with your walking. xo
Love your denim and pearls! Understand your concerns about the upcoming surgery; however, several friends had hip replacements and wish they'd done it sooner! Blessing and prayers . . .
Best wishes for the hip replacement and well done to get rid of extra ponds!
Your photos are always so lovely! They feel calming. I hope the surgery goes well. I know a couple of people who have had them and were surprised at the recovery not being too bad. But, that doesn't mean you won't be anxious - and I totally understand that. I hope the tea helps! ❤️
With very best thoughts for recovery and pain-free life afterward.
Isn’t it wonderful that we can have a hip replacement! Amazing. We will all miss your warm and cosy posts. While you recover enjoy the comfort of dear friends and family., tea, candles and books. One day at a time. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Can you wear your pearls in the hospital? ❤️

I empathize with feeling anxious about your upcoming surgery, Leslie. I would feel the same. It's the waiting that's so hard and thinking about it. Once it's over with you'll be able to focus on recovery and strength.
Your wonderful pearls are such a beautiful accessory with almost anything in your wardrobe. Wishing you all the best.
My dad says he was so glad to have his hip replacement, he only wished he'd had it earlier. I've had 3 anaesthetics in 3 years - all easy. Good luck for yours.
Good luck with your surgery, will miss your cheery posts.
I think you’ll be surprised at the quick recovery and minor pain after hip replacement surgery. I remember needing an afternoon nap for a week or so but the relief at having the former pain gone outshone all else. Best of luck!
You have SO prepared for this surgery - you are going to be great! Sending good wishes and prayers for a successful surgery and a quick recovery. If you can lose 20 pounds ( not easy ) you can ace your recovery!!!
I think you may be surprised how well you come through the surgery and recovery. You will do very well. And well done on the weight loss! Way to go!
Congratulations on reaching your goal of losing the 20 lbs. Your pearls and denim look wonderful together. I am sure you will do well with your surgery and can certainly understand your feelings leading up to it. I will look forward to your next post once you are feeling better. Vicki
I had hip replacement in 2023 and, like you, had apprehension. Some good advice I was given: enter it with a positive attitude and do all the PT recommended, especially at home. I did not need any pain medication after the surgery and found the entire process easy. Another thing that influences recovery is whether there is an anterior approach or a posterior approach. I had the anterior approach with a minimal incision. When I woke up after the procedure I felt like a million dollars. Well rested and ready for coffee. Trust your surgeon and care team. Best of luck to you.
You always look fabulous in denim and pearls, and therefore three denim shirts is just perfect. I have not had a hip replacement, and I see others have given lots of good advice about it. My big surgery was a mastectomy, and with modern methods, medication, and post-operative exercise, I recovered much better then I thought possible. I wish you all the very best for a great outcome, and I know you will do your exercises as you are a methodical person. Make sure you have some Hokey Pokey crunch on hand. You won't put weight on during recovery!
Best wishes on your surgery! You will be so proud when you are healed and back to being your active self. My daughter is a nurse. She read me the riot act when she learned I was waiting till I was in pain to take the pain medication on my first replacement. On the second hip I was with her, and the first week she helped me take the medications around the clock. Major difference. Also, as mentioned above, have a few ice packs available. I took an ice pack with me to therapy for the half-hour drive home. You've got this!👍
Thinking of you and wishing you a great recovery after your hip replacement. Please don't rush things during your recovery x
Hello, I just wanted to pop on to reassure you of your upcoming hip surgery. I am 2 weeks post op on my left hip total anterior hip replacement. The first week was very tough, but I have a very supportive husband who did everything for me. Icing, regular pain meds., and light meals at first worked well. By the way, I'm 70 and live in the northern U.S. where its freezing and icy right now. Make sure you take what they recommend for your bowels, as I experienced discomfort from constipation. Pain meds will do that, lol. Was on a walker but started pt 2x a week, and they have me just using a cane now. Week 2 has seen me making great strides! I'm sure your experience will be very like mine was. I was home the same day, slept in a recliner for the first week. I'm sending you wishes for a speedy recovery!
This is a very late comment but I wanted to add it to the others who have sent encouragement and well wishes. I hope you are now, or will soon be, on the road to recovery and looking forward to a pain free Spring and more successful thrift shopping. And I am so envious of your lovely candlesticks. Did you know Tapio is a Finnish god often referred to as “king of the forest”?
