Greetings from The Humble Bungalow....
April is here and the world is not the same as before...the world feels like it is in a spin! Do you feel it too?
How are you coping? Are you feeling relaxed?
I am surprised by the news everyday...
My word is always "SURREAL"
Do you feel that way too?
I recently read this darling and most charming book by Chloe Dalton.
Loved reading her book and I felt like I was right beside her...
she wrote this during Covid and it really resonates with me.
I am still trying to cull my closet and am not buying a lot of new things...
I bought a new bra today.
Needs Must!
They do not last forever...
I found a great linen dress at a local consignment shop....
Grizas, which is a very popular brand.
Their clothes are all made from linen in the EU...
Will be a great summer dress for many things...
beach walks, dinners out, coffees at cafes, lunches...
I met my husband's cousin's for lunch at The Parliamentary Dining Room
at the Legislature here in Victoria.
Food and service was amazing...
I am doing a deep deep Spring Clean...a cull!
Hoped that our granddaughter might want these Mother of Pearl pieces...
the answer was NO Thank you Grammy!
I hope to gift them to friends...
perhaps with home baked scones and jam!
Ina Garten's Crunchy
Mustard Chicken...
So Good!
Lemon Orzo...
Butchart Gardens...
great to have an annual pass.
We can walk there any day and be surprised by the flowers.
So many daffodils..
Frilly and frothy...
A POP of COLOUR...
MELLOW YELLOW
Read all of Erica Bauermeister's books...
this one was really good.
I got a new battery in my ages old ESQ watch...
it still works!
My next project is a cashmere scarf...
are you knitting ?
Yarn Citizen
I am going to have to learn how to knit a bobble...
Perhaps you crochet?
Paint?
Dabble in Crafts?
Cook?
I am thinking of hibernating...
knitting and reading on rotation
are you staying safe and keeping well?
I have also thought of pulling out my acrylic paints...
painting is such a fun hobby.
What are you doing?
What is new with YOU?
Thank You for just popping by...
Hugs

I think the mother of pearl cutlery would make wonderful gifts to friends with baked goods. What a lovely idea!
I don’t have a hobby (well does cooking for the family every day count?) but upon reading this, the idea of knitting a cozy scarf called out to me. For me your blog is a reminder to slow down and enjoy the little details that make life so rich. ~ avicennia
Those daffodils are such fun. Lovely bright infusion of colour for spring. Great purchase with the dress. I hibernate with my art, mainly fibre art but am trying to get to grips with acrylic paint.
I also think the cutlery would make a lovely accompaniment to a gift of baking. Such a great idea.
Reading, gardening, sewing, and a bit of watercolour are my creative efforts, and it's important to spend more time doing these than focusing on the news. Every day contains more "shake-my-head" news. But for now, the fawn lilies are blooming and cherry blossoms dance over the streets. And there is laundry to do, plus a bit of gardening this morning.
I hope you have a wonderful day, Leslie.
Leslie, The cutlery would make a lovely gift with a baked good or two. I read a lot and watercolor. I can no longer knit because of arthritis, but I sometimes dabble for a few minutes in needlepoint. The news is very distressing and I pay attention to it, but not constantly. Daffodils are spring! Take care.
It is such a tonic stopping by here. Thank you. I'm going to pop into Butchart on my way from the ferry. It is the perfect time to visit and get a bit of a reset. Hopefully we can get together when I next venture over. And yes, the cutlery as a gift with scones is a brilliant idea.
Your cutlery is lovely, and it is strange that the young do not appreciate such things these days. What a beautiful gift to receive, with home baked scones. All the yellow blooms are so cheerful, and Spring seems to have definitely arrived. I love linen, and find your gray dress very appealing. It will be in frequent rotation. I like to sew: making a few of my clothes, and hand stitching projects for fun. My other interest is art, a bit of painting and a lot of reading about art in my volunteer role as a guide at our State galleries. I knitted a couple of jumpers as a teen but lost interest. Some things appeal, and some do not. Reading is always a great interest and since joining a book club my enthusiasm has increased. Happy Springtime!
Yes,the news each day keeps me awake at night! Knitting while listening to music helps a bit.Always so good to see a post from you.Although we have never met, I think of you as a neighbor with whom I would love to invite over for a cup of tea.Sending love from California.
Hi Leslie - always a pleasure to read your posts. I’m dealing with this surreal world stress by painting a drawing almost daily. Keeping close to really good girlfriends. Enjoying the everyday routines my husband Ben and I have. I’m also trying to find ways to make my voice heard to my state and federal government. I am so angry at the situation our country is in and so discouraged we’re in this for another 4 years. Incredible. I am also so for my country’s treatment across the world. Totally disgusted. This has to stop
Thank you for a lovely read - sue
Yes, surreal is the word. I am finding myself wanting to be home and working on my crochet, crafts, cooking and reading. I have to believe things will even out. Can't watch too much news in self preservation. Love your posts, they bring me joy to see a kindred spirit.
Thank you for sharing this post - it was exactly what I needed today.
Thank you for your lovely post. Like many in the U.S. I am struggling with current events. I can take only small doses of news. I read a lot, practice yoga, volunteer, and soon ... will be back at gardening.
That mother of pearl set is beautiful. Lovely as gifts but too bad to break up the set. I hope you find someone to love them. They are lovely.
I"m protesting my country's administration. Action makes me feel better.
I am loving this post! I have both Ina Garten cookbooks and plan to make the chicken thighs and lemon orzo. They both sound so good❤️❤️. Leslie, maybe other grandchildren will be interested in your lovely things. I have 4 sets of china that neither of my daughters want for their homes. It makes me very sad because they were from their grandmothers and great grandmother. So I may ask other members of the family if they would like them. We will probably never have grandchildren so I may ask our nieces and great niece.
I think the cutlery will be appreciated by friends...I just need to get baking!
Avicennia, Cooking is a hobby! Knitting is very peaceful which makes it a meditative practice...good to hear that you enjoy the blog which is also a hobby!
Christy...I see many different varieties of plants and flowers at the Gardens...good luck with the acrylics! Dabble and playing with paint is like making mud pies as a child was for me.
We both seem very content with our chosen pastimes...retirement has so many rewards. Yes the news is very strange these days...I do wonder if it will ever get back to "normal?" Hope you are enjoying the start to your week.
News needs to be doled out in smaller amounts with all this craziness that is going on! Books are a great escape...I am an avid reader and love to be transported to other places via a good novel. Daffodils do feel like the harbingers of Spring :-))
Take care
Oh if my blog feels like a tonic imagine it as if were GIN :-))
Hope you enjoy your visit to the Gardens...I am looking for a great scone recipe...have fun in Victoria.
I know that many of the new generation doesn't share our love of old things...there are so many wonderful items in the thrift shops these days and are quite affordable. Full sets of chine and oodles of silverware. Arts and painting and volunteering are all wonderful interests...oh I adore Linen...wearing it makes me happy. I even like the wrinkles!!
Have a great week Patricia.
I have had to monitor myself from watching too much news...it is definitely a challenging time. Keep knitting !!
Annette...I am sipping tea as I type this to you...hugs to you from your "neighbour" up north in Canada.
XO
Sue...painting to alleviate stress is how great art is made!
Keep up with the advocacy and do what you can to make the situation better...lots of people are speaking out now...protests are happening and it sounds like there is a backlash afoot! We are going to have some tough economic times ahead with these tariffs...but we will do our best to keep our heads above water.
Take care
XO
Becki, Keep on creating...working with one's hands is a great way to be productive and relax. Hope you are right about things evening out...fingers crossed.
Glad that you enjoyed the post...XO
Yoga is a fabulous practice...my aches and pains are not as intense when I do Yoga. It is good for the soul too..gardening is a lovely hobby! Do take care and enjoy yourself...wee little joys are what keep our spirits up.
I think I collected most of the Mother of Pearl and Silver pieces at different shops...over the course of a few years...they will be fun to give away.
Lisa...keep that energy positive and generate some action. You'll feel good about investing in your country's future.
Good luck :-))
Maria ~ Hope that someone will accept the china sets...we have a great consignment shop in Oak Bay Avenue that sells a LOT of antique and fine china...there are people out there who still appreciate it and what is nicer for a dinner or an afternoon tea than a pretty set of dishes? Take care and good luck!
