The Erythronium Lilies are in bloom...
Easter is almost here.
Are you celebrating with an Easter dinner with friends or family?
The lily plants have been multiplying since we planted them
over a decade or so ago...
I love their delicate form and nodding heads.
We have some Native white Fawn lilies but they are slow to multiply.
Dried Annabelle hydrangeas are still hanging out in the dining room.
Picked them last year when they were in full bloom.
They've faded but they still perk up the dark corner here in The Humble Bungalow.
The hallway was bathed in morning sunlight and I had to capture the moment.
A different view of the Hall and Dining Room
to the right is the small living room.
I've been washing the inside windows...
we hired a local company do the outside a week ago.
I cannot reach the high small panes as my step stool is too low
I do not like working on step ladders!
It feels too wobbly and risky to be 5 feet off the ground.
Not sure if we will just live with them slightly hazy?
Perhaps hire that same company to come inside next time,
in the fall perhaps?
Do you wash all your windows?
Spring cleaning is rewarding once the tasks have been done...
I find now at 70, that I procrastinate.
I do keep the house "tidy" and try to keep "clutter" under control.
How do you feel about housework?
Dust and cat hair are always with us...
with 2 cats and an old home we seem to be constantly vacuuming and dusting.
When we were at the Cottage I treated myself to a bunch of yellow roses...
too bad that greenhouse roses from the florist are not fragrant.
They lasted the entire week...glowed bright and bold such a sunny shade.
I changed the water daily and recut them twice,
first when I got to the cottage
then again halfway through the week.
On the yellow theme I purchase a new cookbook!
I follow Julius Roberts on Instagram...he is a farmer and a chef.
The picture from his book spoke to me!!!
I knew that this simple recipe would be amazing...
So flavourful...
I learned how to spatchcock a chicken too.
The fragrance from the pan was unbelievably rich.
Served it with mashed potatoes and some steamed fresh asparagus.
We had enough for two meals and then I used the carcass for soup.
Keeping things fresh and interesting is very much on my radar.
A new Ikebana presentation was advertised...
Happily my friend and I attended.
Such a simple idea to find things in nature and make them into beautiful art.
The black container is so interesting...
a curly twiggy branch
reeds, a pink rhododendron and some feathery foliage.
Leafy branches, red rhododendron blooms and a twiggy branch on the table.
Gerbera daisies, flowing curvy branches and some Pieris in a shallow dish.
The presenter has taken 120 lessons.
She has learned all the rules and principles of the practise and has graduated to the "freeform" stage of Ikebana.
She suggested that we look for interesting vases and bowls at the local thrift shops.
The Kenzens are available online.
We are fortunate to have a local shop here in town that sells them...
Gardener's Kit.
I bought 4 small ones and a large round one.
It's fun to learn new things and explore creative pursuits and hobbies.
What are you learning?
A new skill, or a foreign language?
Pottery, Sewing, A Craft?
The weather has been sunny and warm these past few days.
My skin is sensitive and I have rosacea
so I ordered some Eminence sunscreen from a Canadian website.
They have reformulated their powdered sunscreen...
I like how easy it is to use and it is buildable.
There is a built in brush.
We've got a Federal election here in Canada and we vote soon...
it is a very important election what with new trade war and the tariffs.
I hope we can build a stronger Canada, one that will not result in a recession.
We've got many issues that need fixing...
our medical system needs more doctors and nurses
there are too many people that are homeless
lots of families are struggling financially.
~ PLEASE VOTE ~
Well I have to get some dinner ready now.
On the menu tonight...
Tossed green salad, gnocchi with cheese and bacon, Maple BBQ chicken thighs.
Thank you for taking time to pop in and read my blog.

Your photos - from food to flowers, are just beautiful.
You are gaining one more doctor. My egg lady and her spouse, who is a family practitioner and hospitalist, have gotten permission to immigrate to Canada. As an LGBTQ couple who adopted a Hispanic daughter, they did not feel safe here in Ohio.
Such a lovely post - fresh and inspiring. My windows are in dire need of a clean, the house is too. However, I got a start on things a few days ago when I had a peek behind my washer and dryer. Hello, dog hair and rabbit fur! All swept and wiped down now. Happy Easter, Lesley.
lovely photos of your home. I do wash all our windows inside and out. On the outside I use a windex product that attaches to a hose and you spray that on the window. It works very well. Inside, I do the windows often usually when I'm in that zone cleaning( using Flylady concepts). I havent been cooking anything to interesting as my husband's appetite is so diminished from his cancer. I did though make a lovely red lentil soup the other night.
I hope you have a Happy Easter and look forward to to seeing what you cooked. xo
Thank you for the lovely photos, lots of cheery yellow! I’m always delighted with your posts. My windows in need of washing, on the list. Today I discovered my first Just Joey of the season which brings me joy during a time when here, in the US, we are dealing with daily chaos.
Happy Easter Leslie!
Joan S
the US we deal with chaos daily .
I have never heard of a powdered sunscreen before . I will have to check it out. Yes, you take beautiful pictures. Hope you had an enjoyable day on your daughters birthday. Such a special treat to be together on such a special day. Long line ups at the voting poles. A good sign that so many people are getting out to vote.
I always enjoy your posts! Happy Easter
Happy Easter…enjoying your garden vicariously.
Hooray a doctor and family are moving north! We are so in need of doctors...hope they will be happy here in Canada. You'll have to find a new place to buy your fresh eggs.
I got a wake up call when our old washer and dryer were removed the day the fellows delivered our new washing machine and dryer!!! Cat toys that had migrated under the machines were reunited with the cats!!! Happy Easter Kelly
Our windows are over 100 years old and when they are sprayed with water they leak...so we need the old school washing method of squeegee and chamois...what are Flylady concepts? I love a red lentil soup...
I didn't take any pictures as I was very focused on the family...they wanted fish tacos so I baked white fish covered in lemons and panko crumbs...sauteed a couple of pounds of prawns in garlic and serve a multitude of toppings...diced red onions, chopped tomatoes, jalapenos, shredded cabbage, cilantro, salsa, spicy "green sauce" from the local Root Cellar...dessert was cherry and raspberry crumble with coconut whipped cream. We gave the kids a chocolate bunny each :-))
Joan you must have warmer weather...our roses don't bloom until May...that chaos must be rather disconcerting...hopefully you can find some solace in your garden.
Take care,
The Eminenece line of skincare is popular here in Canada and many local spas use their products. I have had several facials and like the results...the sunscreen is a no brainer...easy to pop in a beach bag tot or my purse...if it is with me I use it. The news reported VERY long lines at the advance polls...I plan to go on April 28th...might have to wait a LONG time there too!!
Happy Easter Layla :-))
Oh I must post a video of our June garden on Instagram before the Garden Tour when it is all tidy !!!!
What beautiful photos...and the chicken looks so good! Glad you got your windows cleaned - and don't worry about the top ones - I don't get up on ladders since my broken wrist and am very careful on stepstools, too. Since we moved to an apartment in a retirement community with lots of BIG windows I clean them every so often. They are cleaned professionally on the outside and once a year part of our contract is an annual cleaning. A team of 6 comes in and cleans from top to bottom including all inside windows. We leave for the day - after moving a bunch of stuff so they can clean thoroughly - and when we come home the windows and the hardwood floors are sparkling. Bliss. Then it is easy to keep neat and tidy with occasional cleaning. Hope you have a great Easter - we are going to friends next door and I made cream puff cake and brownies. Enjoy your Easter and Spring - and yes, VOTE. Apologies from your blog friend in America...we are beyond sad here.
Your home is so lovely! I don't do the windows, just don't care that much, ha ha. We splurged many years ago and have Molly Maids every two weeks, as we both loathe cleaning. It's worth it!
Love your flowers, and I can practically smell that chicken!
I like the idea of having a cleaner coming in to do the bigger jobs and doing a thorough clean. Your cream puff cake sounds yummy...no need to apologize...we understand that not everyone voted for the man. There is a lot of unsettling things happening in the world these days...we all need to keep the faith and do what we can to promote kindness and peace.
Take care,
Leslie
I haven't ever thought of hiring a cleaning team...but as I age it might be worth considering...have a lovely weekend! Sun is shining :-))
