New backpack bag...
Woven leather bag made by Vilenca Holland.
I love a hands free bag for shopping and my beach walks.
This one is such a beautiful shade of brown...
it has really sturdy adjustable straps.
Think it will hold up much better that my Margot Backpack.
The Margot backpack bag from last year
is made of fine glove leather and the straps are thinner
so
with the constant wear
some of the seams are looking stressed.
I've been out and about looking at clothes these past few weeks...
on the hunt for a dressy rayon velvet top.
I love velvet for the festive season.
I spied a gorgeous Cut Loose shirt available in several different colours
at a rather high price point (higher than my usual budget allows) so I didn't buy it.
After chatting with our darling daughter at brunch
she convinced me to go to the thrift shops and have a browse.
Well thankfully I took her advice...
I found a lovely rayon velvet top in a bright jewel tone
and I think it might be an Eileen Fisher piece :-))
It is in perfect condition and was VERY affordable.
I need to shorten the sleeves but that will be a quick fix.
While shopping at WIN...
I found a vintage Ann Klein leather make-up bag and coin purse.
Will come in handy in the backpack bag
as it doesn't have commodious pockets inside the bag.
After much waffling...I decided to change my hair style.
I went to an Aveda salon and had the stylist cut it into a short bob with a fringe.
It is super simple too...
Just a bit of Aveda gel and a wee bit of scrunching and then I let it air dry.

I like a pop of colour and lipstick is a quick and easy way to add that brightness.
New Shoes...
Vessi
Slip ons that are waterproof for the Win :-))
Walking on wet sidewalks is what I do Fall through to the end of Winter.
These will be a game changer!
Bought the black because they will go with everything in my closet!!
I am a sensible gal and keep the colour palette pretty classic.
Black and white bowl in the downstairs loo...
Soaps are at the ready for dirty hands and the walk in shower!
I buy the Goats Milk soap with shea butter added as it is so moisturizing.
You might think all I have been doing is shopping but that's not true.
I've been attending aqua fit classes at the Rec centre, reading loads of books,
baking a weekly sourdough boule, drinking lots of green tea, making a batch of soup every week for our lunches and continuing on the drawer by drawer, closet by closet cull of unwanted, unused and old stuff!
Maybe being busier is why I have stopped my weekly blogging habit?
I am very focused and "present" when I am writing the blog.
It seems to take me longer to get to the computer too...
so many other distractions :-))
My husband and I are always watching a british crime drama or mystery on Acorn.
We like the ease of entertainment without leaving the house.
What's new with you?
Have you read any good books? Seen any great films?
Well I must close for now as I have a book to finish and dinner to prepare...
Am using Pappardelle instead of the Fusilli...
meatless sauce using anchovies, capers, garlic, black olives, spices and San Marzano tomatoes with Grana Padano cheese.
Are you watching The Pasta Queen on TV?
She's amazing and makes me want to cook pasta 24/7

Love your new haircut and you are rocking that red lip ! I just finished The Measure, by Niki Erlick. Very interesting. Attended an author event sponsored by local library - Louise Penny and got a copy of her new book The Grey Wolf. What a pleasure to hear her interviewed and learn more about her books. And...osteoporosis wise - think I am going to pass on that Evenity injection. Don't like the sound of the side effects!!! Enjoy a cozy November !
Yes to Vessis! You will love your pair, I'm pretty certain. I love mine. They get better as you wear them, too, which is a bonus. You've had a busy couple of weeks. Love your new bob. And well done on the purchasing front. I'm looking forward to Circle Craft Christmas Market which is starting here on the 6th. Haven't bought anything new in awhile other than a vacuum. Not very exciting but most necessary. I also adore Louise Penny and look forward to reading her latest. Have a super weekend. I'm looking forward to the time change and brighter mornings. Let's hope the rain subsides for a bit.
Great haircut. That's the length I like too, very easy to look after.
Great purchases and that top is a wonderful find. You always seems to find such great things. The hair looks wonderful too and so easy to manage.
You look very chic with your new haircut and lipstick. The new Louise Penny book arrived here this week. I'm being very disciplined and finishing a stack of books from the library before I dive into the Grey Wolf. Bread is rising here today, and soup is a staple here, too.
Enjoy the extra hour we all get tonight.
You look great with a cute new haircut! What great shopping you have done - the woven leather backpack is absolutely gorgeous. I have never had one of these handbags but am thinking of trying one especially for our next holiday. The velvet top is such a great find, and how beautiful to wear at Christmas when there is snow outside. Of course, we have a Very Hot Summer Christmas in Australia, so the fashions are very casual at best. I do enjoy your recipes, and your pasta always sounds delicious. Have a good month.
New haircut looks great and I love the color of your new top. My husband and I have been watching Whitstable Pearl on Acorn.
I love your new haircut! And thank you for the posts - I am always delighted when I see one pop up.
I always enjoy your posts. The haircut looks wonderful on you and I especially love the red lippy. I am envious of your thrifting finds. You always purchase such wonderful items. I am pretty sure that top is Eileen Fisher. Well done!
I am really enjoying the ease of this new hair style. Oh I am longing to read Louise Penny's new book...I have put a hold on it at the local library...me and hundreds of other avid fans!! The osteoporosis injections are a really tough decision...
The Vessi shoes are SOOO comfortable! The time change is not my favourite thing as I like the light so much and when it gets dark by 4:30 it feels almost like bedtime :-((
Enjoy the Christmas craft Fair! More rain is on the way...at least our feet will be dry!
Thank you ! It is definitely an easier hair style to maintain...just a wee bit of product and my hair can air dry.
Thrift shopping takes a lot more looking than just buying retail...there are many days when I find nothing. When I spy a great item I get very excited...my new shorter bob is so simple to maintain...I will need to get it trimmed more regularly but I think it will be worth it.
Ann also read The Measure...I will check that book out. We had homemade soup and sourdough toast for lunch today. Sounds like we have another wet rainy few days in the forecast...reading and soups on repeat :-)) Stay Cozy.
I am new to backpacks but they are wonderful...I love to have a hands free option especially when i am on my walks or browsing in the shops. Enjoy your warmer weather...it is a rainy day here today and more is in the forecast.
We really enjoy Whitstable Pearl...we are watching the newest series.
Thank you Maudie. It is nice to hear that you enjoy my blog posts :-)) So many blogs that I used to read have disappeared...Instagram is a quick and easy way to keep in touch too so perhaps it has replaced many blogs?
Thank you Ms. Liz...I like red lipstick. It adds a wee bit of much needed colour...especially now that the Fall and Winter rainy days have arrived. I think it is an EF top too!!
Your new top is indeed Eileen Fisher - I looked up the RN number: https://rn.ftc.gov/Account/BasicSearch. Well done on your thrifting!
I like your new haircut - it suits you! I also carry a backpack, and agree, it must be thick leather to hold and carry everything.
Sending you dry wishes on this very wet day! I'm about to walk to work and anticipate I'm going to get soaked!
I love your new haircut! Your days sound very satisfying - a little of this and a little of that and all good things! I just finished the new documentary on Martha Stewart (Netflix). I found it interesting. We are watching Elsbeth and Matlock on Paramount Plus. Both new series with an older woman heading the cast and both good. I'm also watching the new season of The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix. And then there's The Great British Baking Show, latest season available on Netflix. Husband and I both enjoy that as well.
Logged off immediately to check online if my library had the new Louise Penny book. Sadly not. It shouldn't surprise me. They often have a few random books of a series or an Author - but never the entire set or all an Authors books - frustratingly. Went op shopping today for jeans. No luck. You are lucky with your shopping. That velvet top will look great and an uplifting colour for Winter celebrations - or Summer.
Love the haircut and what great thrift store finds. I have not found anything great at WIN lately. I donate very good things every month or so but haven’t been rewarded myself..haha.
May I ask what brand the backpack is and if you found it locally?
I have a pair of Vessis and like them but find they are quite as waterproof as advertised. Just don’t go puddle jumping and they are fine!
It's been a while since I checked your blog, and I see it is still simple pleasures and great photography! I'm also grey-haired wavy, so your cut is inspirational. Somehow I can't do a pure red lippy, but a brownish-red looks better on me. My new one for fall is Nars Afterglow in Aragon. You always manage to find such great thrift shop items!
How clever of you to figure that out! I had a serious hunch that the top was EF...am enjoying the sturdy new backpack. Take care and enjoy this weekend.
Jeaninne,
How are you doing? I am late responding to your comment as I have been away...visiting Salt Spring Island and Pender. Have Ina Gartens' new book and am devouring it!! What a great story. American Thanksgiving is getting very close...hope you have a great celebration.
I think a lot of people are shopping at the thrift store these days...I observed a young man buying up a large quantity of "vintage" women's clothing in various sizes so I assumed that he has a resale shop. The backpack is designed in Holland by Vilenca and I found it at Marshalls...will stay out of puddles unless I am wearing my waterproof boots :-))
Yes...I haven't change up my blog much...it is a reflection of my simple lifestyle. Lipstick should be in a shade that flatters our complexion...there are many different reds...lots to choose out there...I need a new one to wear with that velevt top!
