Easy peasy dressing...
it's not a salad dressing!

It 's a simple minimal curated wardrobe
that has evolved since retiring.

This boiled wool skirt gets worn at least twice each week.
The Chelsea boots are my go to for Fall and Winter.
Opaque Hue tights offer warmth and help to create a longer silhouette.
I have a pair in grey and another in black.

The cashmere V neck sweater by Black Goat was a Christmas gift from my husband.
I prefer a cozy longer sweater for extra warmth
 the length is versatile
allowing it to be worn with leggings
or
the skinny ponte knit pants that I wear frequently.

I've been wearing my Masaii print dress weekly since I found it in a local consignment shop.

 Newer Eileen Fisher striped dress
priced quite reasonably so another workhorse joins the group.

Knit pants and a Cut Loose top...
so simple.
This cut loose top pairs well with the boiled wool skirt.

Having separates that mix and match helps to stretch the budget and makes it easy to put together many versatile outfits.

Previously jeans and a tee top with a cardigan were my "uniform."
Recently I have felt a shift...
in how and what I wanted to wear.

Black Goat cashmere have a lovely soft grey cardigan that I have my eye on...
it may be a wise purchase sometime soon as the grey shade fits into my wardrobe effortlessly.

Blogging from the kitchen table
while Jane Green's Mom's rib recipe bakes in the oven...
(copyright laws do not allow me to post her recipe)

easy peasy dinner tonight
potatoes
coleslaw

Must close now and work on my knitting project.

Hope you have some fun things planned for the  weekend.

I love the way your wardrobe has evolved, seems more girlish, in a way, but also more fashionable. If that makes sense. Girlish in a fun way.

I really like your wardrobe shift. I could wear the same styles! Love the idea of tights and the mix and match elements.

My goodness! You and I have almost the same wardrobe. I'm choosing pink as my spring accent colour. But.. My plan after my work time is Paris then in the steps of Man in Seat 61 (thanks to Mater) to Budapest with my daughter. I need to check on Black Goat because daughter gave me a grey cashmere that got eaten.

I love the direction your retirement wardrobe has taken. Chic, pared back, simple, practical and effective.

Where you major on black I major on navy blue. Wonderful to have such simple wardrobes where most things 'go' together, isn't it!

I too am a huge fan of your wardrobe! That Black Goat cashmere sweater is truly lovely, it has the perfect shape and I bet it feels wonderful to wear.
I hope you had a lovely evening xx

Love your style. I think narrow leg pants and loose tops are very becoming and comfortable. I am a bit worried with the trend towards wide leg pants. Will there still be the option to buy narrow pants? What are your thoughts on this style?
I just finished reading Seven Days in May and American War. What are you reading?
Hope the ribs were good and gooey.

Such a lovely picture of you Leslie. I'm tending towards wearing mainly black and shades of grey during the winter. So easy to style .... I especially like your longer length cashmere sweater. Your husband has great taste! :)

Thanks Gwen...it has taken me years to figure out what I like to wear!
Hope that you have some fun this weekend.

Hope yours is a good one too!

It may be more girlish...
I was a tomboy at school so this may be my last kick at the girly can!

Susan I think we like the same kind of clothing...I mix my purchase up a bit with consignment and new to stretch my budget...and I don't really NEED a thing! But I still like to pounce on a great piece now and then...

We could be style twins!
Pink will be lovely on you...and Black Goat cashmere is lovely...perhaps you will find something when you go there.
I am dreaming of a polka dot scarf...red with white dots...to go with the red flats that I bought before Xmas.

It's whittled down to just what I love...and I like how easy it is to get dressed with simple garments that are comfy and look decent.

Versatility is key to a working wardrobe isn't it?
It took me years to figure this out but I am glad that I did!

Oh gosh "flashy" is not me at all! I like to blend into the crowd not stand out...

"Navy is the new black"...I read that somewhere! Actually I think navy has always been a classic neutral for clothing choices for years.

I had never set foot in the Black Goat store until after Xmas...and then I spied many lovely items...the soft grey cardigan really got my attention...if it is still there around my birthday I will buy it!!!
We have been keeping cozy at home a lot as the rains have been cold and gloomy so I light the candles and we relax with the heater on in our family room and watch Netflix.

I like the narrow pants and longer tunic look...the wide leg pants would be awful on me...I am far too short and plump to wear them! I think there will always be narrow pants in the shops...(fingers crossed!)
I am reading "Mistakes were made...some in French"
The ribs were tasty but not as gooey as we like them...I made Jane Green's other recipe last time and we like it better.

I enjoy your clothing posts. I am frequently returning to your post -back in summer - to remind myself what I need to look out for in the shops. I have no problem organising my winter wardrobe. But summer has me stumped with my changing shape. I would be interested in how other people have found solutions to storing winter woolens and scarves away from moths - I lost a favourite cardigan, a jacket and three scarves this year to hungrey moths. I am wondering what your current knitting project looks like. Could you show us please?

Those black and grey shades are very easy to mix and match, I think that is why they are so popular...in Spring and Summer I like whites and in the past few seasons I have introduced some blue into my wardrobe...I'd like to fast forward to Spring...although it is a lovely sunny day here today.

Thank you Ali...my hairdresser is wonderful and she loves to travel to France and Paris too so we have lots to chat about!

I store my wool scarves and sweaters in zippered plastic bags...I make sure that they are laundered and so far this has kept the moths at bay.
Oh my current knitting project is a grey "boneyard" designed shawl from the Ravelry site...free to download and I am going to try knitting some socks next! Will share the shawl when I am done...maybe in a couple of days.

Moderation is turned on for all comments...that means that I am sent an eail to review the comment and I need to approve it before it gets published on my blog...this is to avoid spammers and nasty comments. I am not always online so it may take awhile for me to get to the approval...sorry if you are finding this tedious but I had to resort to this because I was having some really nasty comments pop up on the blog.

That's why I said "classy without being flashy" :-)!
Doesn't it mean : "only classy"? Did I say something wrong? I'm very sorry if I wrote the sentence wrong
D.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

No nothing wrong at all!
I totally agree with you I was just reiterating your point of not being flashy.
