~ Painted Lady Butterfly ~
This beautiful butterfly spent quite a long time exploring the Verbena Bonariensis
that we have growing in the garden.
I grabbed my phone and followed it quietly as it flew from flower to flower.
I've since learned that butterflies are attracted to the colour purple.
Purple Buddleia bushes are also known as the Butterfly Bush.
We don't grow many purple plants but I plan on buying more purple varieties of flowers next Spring to grow in the Humble Bungalow Garden.
I love the idea of having more butterflies visiting our garden.
Treated myself to Jenny Rose-Innes new book.
I brewed a big pot of tea and sat in the sunny corner of our kitchen
read the book from cover to cover one recent afternoon.
Oh my goodness!
The photographs are fabulous,
the interviews of the homeowners are rich in detail
there is so much of nature to bring inside the home.
I continue to be inspired by Nature...
I've been known to add natural features to our bungalow too.
Large foraged twigs, pine cones, sea shells, flowers, and stones.
They are free which make hunting for these items much more adventurous and fun.
Why go to a store and buy a plastic or manufactured piece when you can get outdoors in the fresh air, explore and find something that you want to bring inside?
Our Boscobel Rose is putting on a spectacular show.
So many big blooms for a rose that is planted in a pot!
Speaking of colour...
I have been wearing the "hippy-dippy" vintage thrifted necklace.
Those juicy looking garnet red beads just add an extra something to basic black.
I dug out this vintage quilted bag that i have had for ages.
It seemed like a good idea to wear it with the beaded necklace.
I don't often switch up my bags mid season...but am trying to change some habits.
Like wearing more pieces of my small jewelry collection on rotation.
It definitely takes more time and effort
but it keeps my eye fresh seeing these small changes.
Professional pedicure
(a luxury)
one thing that I cannot do well myself anymore.
The pampering is so lovely too...
I used to do in home spa days and they were equally satisfying.
The physical act of bending over
painting my toes
which are far away from my vision
and as a wearer of glasses it makes the job very difficult!
Do you indulge in Spa pedicures?
Seen on my walk.
Beautiful peacock
There are so many peacocks living in Beacon Hill Park
that they have spread out and are living closer to The Humble Bungalow.
Saw a Mom and her baby foraging close by on another street.
Went to The Beehive Wool Shop and bought some new yarn...
Fall is on the way and I do love a project.
Easy Goes It pattern is on Ravelry...
have made this at least 6 times...
I chose purple as I love the pop of colour.
Do you knit?
What have you been up to these past few weeks?
Anything exciting?
Mauve Cosmos that my husband grew from seed.
We have a few in the yard and this one seems happy growing in a big pot.
One of the newest wee free libraries in our city.
Located across the street from the cruise ship terminal.
I found a hardcover copy of Frayne by Ann-Marie MacDonald.
That book has been on my want-to-read list since it was published...
I am honored to share that I have met Ann-Marie as she is the sister of a dear friend.
Well it's time for me to make some lunch for us.
I've got some errands to run
and once they are done I might go for a walk.
Hope you are taking time to notice all the beauty that surrounds you.
Take Care
XO

That Little Free Library is so cute! I love it. I also love the peacocks in photos, but they freak me out a little in person. They are just so big and a little intimidating. Are the ones around you nice?
I believe that the ship themed library was built by a fellow whose wife, an avid reader, after she passed away...it is a lovely tribute to her memory. The peacocks are very relaxed...friendly to a point, are curious and don't seem at all aggressive...other people may feel threatened by them as they are quite large.
As a retired librarian, I just love the little library. There are so many interesting ones out there. When we were in Saguenay near Quebec we found one that was in an old refrigerator...."reading is cool"! I understand about getting your pedicure - and it looks marvelous. I am finding it harder to do my own, too. Enjoy the rest of August!
I have never had my nails done. Purchased a new pair of shoes recently and realized, too late, when I took my sox off instore - that I had not paid much attention to my feet or nails in too long. Couldn't believe how dry my feet looked. Embarrassing. Friends had peacocks at their lifestyle property. They had to have many of them relocated as there became too many of them and they were also very loud and messy. And they didn't mind bringing their loud and messy inside if a door was left open. Your photos are always so good. I went to the garden centre today to look at their new roses in stock. Not many were flowering but it gave a good opportunity to focus on the form and leaves. Best wishes, Kathryn.
I find that purple attracts all pollinators. I am planting more and more of it. It is fun to add colourful accessories. I’m a colour person so I tend to work with a neutral pant/skirt and a colourful top. I wish that I knit but I don’t think that I have the patience.
The cruise ship library is just wonderful! I love little libraries.
What a pretty necklace. I really enjoy your style. I am still doing my own pedicures but am ready to pay a professional. It is hard with bifocals and lack of bending ability.
Your garden always looks lovely and purple flowers will be a great addition in order to attract the bees and butterflies. That cruise ship library looks so cute. It just makes you want to stop and take a look. I started knitting again last winter and plan to carry on this coming winter but will try to expand my skills. A pedicure on a fairly regular basis keeps my feet in good trim, however, you do need to find the right person to do them for you.
What a pretty violet-themed post this one is!! Love all your photo choices; they lead from one to another. The chunky necklace was a find for sure, and pairing it with the vintage bag is stylish. And your toes!! Pretty. I don't use polish now, but I did plenty when younger. I have never had a pedicure, just not comfortable with a stranger touching my feet, too embarrassing. I'm an uptight one ;-D
I love what you said about hunting for natural beauties; beach combing is one of my favorite things. It's so rewarding to find treasures yourself and enjoy them in your decor. I've always admired your lovely sea glass collection. Have a great weekend!

I have a very large Monarch Magic Ageratum that attracts monarchs. I love seeing them flitting around this plant! We also have milkweed and many dill plants hoping to attract butterflies to make cocoons. I just bought some sandals like the ones you show here - except mine are a taupe/brown color. Really like them. I know what you mean about doing the toes - it's become harder, especially (for me) the polishing of them. I do not like pedicures, though. I tried it once and I'm just not someone who likes people touching my feet - very ticklish, for one thing.
Kathryn...I once went for a pedicure and forgot to shave my legs...it was winter time and I had not paid attention...oops embarrassed myself too :-)) Peacocks are very loud...we can hear them from Beacon Hill Park where a huge number live...I don't mind the sound but we have lived here for over 42 years and it is just part of the neighbourhood.
We watched a recent episode of Gardener's World UK with host Monty Don and there were a vast number of pollinators on a garden that grew herbs with lots of purple flowers in the perennial beds...WOW it was absolutely buzzing with butterflies and bees and other insects.
I love the libraries too and if I pass one that is messy I tidy it up...I used to be a library clerk !!!
The cruise ship had a lovely quiet library and even had a free section...I had finished one of my books so I donated it and took another one. Good luck with your pedicure...I hope you enjoy it.
I have a great place to go for a pedicure...it is actually a day spa so the prices are higher than those big spots in the malls. Knitting is so good for us and I recently read that it affects our brain in a very positive way...lessens our chances of developing dementia! Happy knitting :-))
I actually find the foots soak and the leg massage very relaxing...and as I am so terrible with polishing while bending I have to have someone with better eyesight and coordination...needs must. In the winter I don't use polish on my toes...so it is a treat when Spring and summer come and I can splurge on a wee bit of pampering.
The Taos sandals are so comfy to wear...I can walk a long distance in mine. Oh I guess I am not very ticklish anymore...I don't mind it at all. I know a few others who don't like massage or pedicures...I don't like getting fillings or crowns at the dentist!
