June ~ Flowers and more...

~ David Austin Rose ~

Climbing Graham Thomas
a fragrant and prolific repeat blooming rose.

It's a RIOT of Yellow blooms and the bees love it.

I have been busy with my new exercises and daily walks.
It's surprising how fast the days pass by...
home keeping, cooking, gardening.
My tea and book breaks several times a day
I seem to be busier than usual.

I have almost forgotten about blogging.
Today I finally answered the questions from my last post in May.

Roses are so beautiful right now...
the branches and stems are having a hard time holding up all the blooms!

I go out most days for a few minutes with my secateurs and snip off spent blooms, remove the black spotted leaves and as a wee reward pick a few roses to bring inside.

My "Work Station."

Always
at or near the sink.

The hard working tools at the ready...

The kitchen is the heart of our home.
Most of my time is spent in the kitchen prepping meals and cleaning up.
I sit at the trestle table to write my blog posts.

Darling daughter helped facilitate a purchase this week...
she has an Etsy shop and is always out and about looking for treasures.

I mentioned at least a year ago to her
that I was wanting a vintage or antique gold watch chain...

I had seen some in a local second hand shop that were lovely but far too expensive.
Since having my surgery, a friend suggested that I buy myself a treat,
to "mark" the hip replacement event.

It got me thinking and well the stars aligned and Jennifer found me an antique Albert Chain in 9ct rose gold...
(rose gold is perfect for a rose grower!!)

Thank you Jen
XO

Did you watch any of the Chelsea Garden Show coverage on You Tube?
My goodness it was fun...I can only imagine being there.

Our peonies put on a great showing this year.
Lovely frothy petals...we have 2 different peony plants.
I could not bring myself to pick any as they looked so stunning in the beds.

I just finished reading Margaret Atwood's Handmaid's Tale.
It was definitely dystopian...
the book was well written (of course)
it felt plausible,
perhaps even possible considering the times that we are living in...

On Sunday I purchased the sequel The Testaments.
I'll read that after I read a few other books in my book stack.

What are you reading?

Well I had better close for now and get some dinner organized.
Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

Feel free to leave a comment and let me know how you are getting along.

In the meantime...

The rose gold is very pretty and that is a generous chain. I have been watching the Chelsea flower show and enjoying it. The tickets are expensive - I think one person said ninety pounds. There are also the floral displays in the shops around Chelsea to look at - which some people covered. Also enjoyable. I expect it is quite a fun atmosphere. It would get the ideas flowing and end up potentially expensive at the garden centre's, I imagine.

So happy you found a great chain and "rose" gold is perfect. Your roses are amazing - now in an apartment with a screen patio I don't get enough sun to have roses and miss mine, but here in Pennsylvania the roses all around that I see on my errands are outstanding. I don't know if it was all the rain or what, but there seem to be fountains of them tumbling over fences or climbing up trellis...or just blooming in all their glory! Yes, The Handmaid's Tale is frightening....and maybe a cautionary tale? I just finished Anna Quindlen's new book, More Than Enough, and really enjoyed it. Hope you enjoy a fabulous June!

What a great idea to treat yourself to the beautiful rose gold chain. You deserve it after the long road of surgery, a reward for your diligence in exercising and getting back to your busy life. Your roses are glorious, and I can only imagine the beauty of having them tumbling down so bountifully. We love to grow roses here in the sub-tropics but it is not easy as they don't really like the climate. We just planted a new Peace Rose to replace the one left behind when we moved. The last pink roses you show is one we have planted here too, and it is doing the best of our small collection. I am reading 'Life is Short but Wide' by Lorrie Orr, and am enjoying it very much. Happy Summer days.

I am smelling powerful peony pink blooms right now!Friends came to dinner last night and brought a vase full!!!
Love the Albert chain! Funny the day I asked you about it. We watched a movie and they were in that park in England. I can’t think of the name by Kensington Palace and there was a statue of Albert.!!
Time is going by fast with the less I do!
Love Graham Thomas. That is probably my favorite yellow rose!
Just finished Kate!An older book but I do enjoy THAT FAMILY VERY MUCH!

As always your flowers are simply gorgeous. I fully support the idea of treating yourself to some lovely jewelry as a reward for getting through your surgery, well done! I'm reading Turning to Birds, essays by Lili Taylor, a wonderful actress. It's beautifully written. Thank you for all your posts, I really enjoy them. Deb from Austin

Your roses are set for another stunning season, Leslie. I am always fascinated by the micro-climates in our area that affect our gardens. My roses are just beginning to bloom, with lots of buds to open. I think you are more sheltered than we are.
Your new chain is just lovely!

Hope you are doing well recovering from your fall. I bet you are back on track now. Your roses are just amazing. So impressive. I can almost smell them through the pictures! We finally received some much needed rain! First, in April, we had just a deluge of rain - way too much and for far too long - day after day. Then came May where there was nothing and now way too dry. Seems to be feast or famine! Yesterday we had a lovely, long, gentle rain. Hurray!

Leslie, I love your gold watch chain. What a great idea to treat yourself after surgery. I have a vintage watch chain also that I purchased at an antiques show. Mine makes a longer necklace. I got the idea to look for one years ago after seeing a picture of Barbra Streisand wearing one and thought it looked classy! What is the name of your lovely pink rose? I love your blog.... Debbie

I think the BBC coverage of Chelsea is fabulous...I always love perusing our local garden centres and going on the local garden tours for inspiration.

The chain has a ring just "waiting" for something...I might put an antique gold padlock heart on it.
Roses are at their prime in May and June! So lush and lovely...enjoy them wherever they bloom. We are going on the Teeny Tiny Garden Tour this Sunday and will be celebrating our granddaughter's 16th birthday...where does the time go?
Enjoy all the snippets of beauty Ann

Rose gold feels right :-)) I had a peace rose for years...it was a gift from Vi, my rose mentor....sadly after 20 years it died. It is a lovely rose...so delicate and sweet. Enjoy yours Patricia!

What was the family which is referenced by the book Kate ?
I am not sure and would love to know more...
Graham Thomas is a stalwart among roses. I see your garden looking so lush and lovely...you have a special touch with plants and pets :-))

The roses elevate my days...they require work but offer great rewards.

Deb...I must look into that book by Lili Taylor....it sounds interesting. Sunshine and warm days on the beach are perfect companions for a good book!

It's been almost a week and I am guessing that your roses are now a riot of blooms...we get the salty air from the ocean and some of our garden is more protected than other areas...the Graham Thomas rose is in the most protected of all the garden.

I am doing my exercises and walking...
we had rain earlier this week too...the garden definitely needed it. Roses are greedy when it comes to water and we are fortunate to have clay soil so it stays moist most of the time...roses and hydrangeas both thrive in the garden.
Take care

I am looking into getting a rose gold extender to add about an inch or two to the length...and will add a wee charm or rose gold padlock heart to the ring on the end of the chain. I am loving this new necklace...as a pearl gal who has only a handful of jewels it is fun to experiment with something new!
The pink rose is a bit of a mystery...I think it is a Lydia Rose

Such a lovely special chain! It looks perfect on you; I really like the length too. A padlock heart or charm would be darling!
