~ Star Magnolia ~
This beauty is out front of The Humble Bungalow and is currently in BLOOM.
The sheer elegance...of pure white flowers.
I love a crisp white flower.
I am doing well post op into week 6 now...
walking more steps but still at a slowish pace.
The hip muscles are getting a workout!
I can tell because I need to pop a Tylenol
after a day of walks....
even these frequent short ones that the physiotherapist has recommended.
I am a rule follower and I am pushing ahead trying to be mindful of my capability.
Oh but the urge to go farther is so tempting...
that being said if I overdo I am not doing myself any favours.
I drove the car to meet a friend for coffee today and it felt so amazing!
~ FREEDOM ~
I've been reading a LOT...
I've read many books in the past 5 weeks.
I've just finished Mrs. Van Gogh...very interesting and well written.
Tartufo was a fun romp set in Italy, comical, it could be made into a film.
Lady Tremaine is up next...a Reese's Book Club Pick.
A Cinderella story told by the wicked stepmother's perspective.
I've been paying attention to my hands...
they've been quite dry so I've been slathering on the hand cream.
Wearing my Akoya Pearls...
always want to add a bit of polish to my plain white Tee and grey cashmere sweater.
They positively GLOW.
Mr. HB took me for a drive to the Beacon Drive In...
I had a soft ice cream cone.
The first one in about 5 YEARS!!!!
So Yummy.
Why did I wait SO LONG to have a cone?
I guarantee I'll be going more often to enjoy this wee treat.
I pulled out my paints...
made some Mud Pie Paintings.
Easter Colours Perhaps?
I feel like a kid in kindergarten when I paint...
no judgement just let the brush flow.
Healing over these past few weeks has made me realize what a lot I have to be thankful for...and feeling so much gratitude as I wake up every day.
The return to more normal activities is wonderful.
I am not taking anything for granted.
Tea Time is a TREAT!
So many choices...
What blend to brew?
My friend Michelle gave me a tin of Harney and Sons Earl Grey which is so GOOD!
The tea is full bodied and in wee silk gossamer bags.
I feel very posh when I sip it.
I've been using mugs because I have a cane in one hand and I daren't juggle
a cup and saucer just yet, but can imagine how lovely it will be to sip this POSH tea out of one of my fine china cups and saucers.
(lah dee dah)
Sun is shining and I've got to go for my afternoon walk...
(doctor's orders)
Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.
Hope that your week is off to a great start.
Until next time...

Glad to hear how well you are doing! Isn't Harney & Sons tea such a treat!
So glad to hear you're healing and doing better!
So lovely to read of your happenings Leslie. It's like a whole new chapter of the 'new' you has emerged. I enjoy reading your daily adventures on Instagram, whether it be about books, gardens or home life. You are a true gem and your online friendship is a gift x
yay! keep up the good work....and I applaud your ability to follow the guidelines given to you and not go beyond: more is not always better. my husband found that out after his 2nd knee replacement, when he didn't go crazy doing extra sets of the physiotherapy exercises like he did the first time around, and discovered that the healing process was actually much easier.
love, love, love your painting! have fun experimenting and being free with your paints.
So happy to hear that you are healing, and enjoying the many pleasures of getting back to your activities. You are smart not to push too quickly. Sometimes I think some adversity is welcome, just to savor every usual moment afresh. It reminds one of all the wonderful daily events that sometimes can be taken for granted. Although I don't think you take much for granted! I always love the way you highlight all your beautiful pleasures, from the garden to your treasures and finds. Thanks for updating us!
Erina
So pleased your healing is not only going well but also that you’ve used that time to read, knit and paint!
I am reading Lady Tremaine and thoroughly enjoying it. The background and perspective of the stepmother is refreshing and clever. And I'm loving your postsurgical perspective, too.
So happy to hear your hip is healing well.. That ice cream cone looks delicious.!Vicki
Happy to hear that you're doing so well!
I enjoy a cup of Harney and Sons Earl
Grey decaf in the morning!
You are doing so well with your recovery. Keeping to the doctor's orders when you want to do more might be difficult, but better in the long run. I always admire your beautiful pearls, and that you wear them frequently.
Little treats like ice cream and special teas make for special moments. You deserve them!
Happy to hear you are recovering well. I haven’t read the blog lately until now but follow you on Instagram. I am curious as to what eating program you are on to lose 20 pounds. I have to have a knee replacement and am struggling trying to lose 20 pounds. Thank you for your answer
I've just finished the tea...so delicious and a very thoughtful gift.
I really enjoyed your post yesterday!! Lots of fun outfits :-))
Hi Colleen, I feel a bit like I have been given a new lease on life with this new hip...lots of exercises to do to regain strength and stability and my walking speed needs to improve...The New and improved "ME!" I post daily on IG and am going to try and post more frequently here on the blog.
I am working hard at the exercises and maintaining the walking albeit the slower pace...want to get going faster but it takes time. The painting is rather fun...like I said it's like making those mudpies of my childhood.
Hope you are keeping well.
Hi Erina,
Adversity is a teaching tool for sure...we definitely appreciate things "more" once they are taken away...I do try to be mindful of all the gifts and am very grateful to be alive.
I am going to keep posting on Instagram each day and will attempt to be better at these blog posts too!!
I've taken a knitting break...but am reading a LOT of books. Exercising as per the physio instructions and walking. Lots of things popping up in the garden too and beautiful birdsong.
XO
That book was such fun! Am reading all different genres while I am in recuperation mode...have Station Eleven among the books on my TBR pile.
Vicki...I am so glad that I rediscovered those soft ice cream cones...can already imagine enjoying another one soon!!!
Jeannine I am feeling better each day and gaining strength and improving my stamina...it seems to take awhile but I keep reminding myself that Rome was not built in a day!!
Lovely!! Such a bold tea and a fabulous wake up to your mornings.
Wearing my [earls now as I type...these exercises and walks are helping me regain muscles and come with a few aches...you know what they say...No Pain No Gain.
More ice cream...YES!
Denise,
I have a great motivator...less weight = less pain. I was in a lot of discomfort and was willing to try almost anything...hence the determination to lose weight. I quit my wine habit cold turkey for starters....then avoided most starchy carbs. Greek high protein and fruit with nuts for a salad with hard boiled eggs for my lunches. Lean protein for dinner with a variety of veggies ...protein goal 28 gm a day.
Hope this helps,
Good luck!
