There is a smattering of rain outside today.
The gardens need the moisture.
The weather is mild and there is a symphony of birdsong.
Hummingbirds are flitting about...
I've been following the advice of the physiotherapist and kinesiologist.
Exercising and walking daily.
My new hip is getting a workout...
actually I think it is the muscles
that are getting the exercise and feel much more stronger.
I'm feeling less dependant on my cane and am now able to sleep better.
Thank goodness I can sleep on my side now.
The surgeon suggested that I buy some silicone cream,
apply and gently massage the scar.
He told me that plastic surgeons tell their patients to do this...
This is my routine now after my morning shower and before I go to bed at night.
I went to the mall to buy some white pants...
Bagatelle wide legged pants in my size came home with me.
I took a picture but it is such a bad photo...
the outfit looks terrible but you get the idea of the pants.
Pants that fit are scarce (rare as hen's teeth) in my closet
since losing almost 25 pounds.
I've had a couple of emails about my weight loss and how I achieved it...
it started last October after meeting the surgeon.
It was gently suggested that if I lost some weight that I would not be in as much pain.
WOW!
That's what I needed to hear.
The pain was BAD.
So I cut out all alcohol.
(my daily wine was just a habit)
I started eating more protein and removing most breads and starchy carbs.
My lunches are Greek high protein plain yogurt, fresh fruit, and some chopped walnuts.
~ OR ~
Simple green salad with 2 hard boiled eggs and a homemade vinaigrette.
(I add a few nuts and sliced French pickles)
Dinners are lean chicken or fish, a couple servings of seasonal steamed veggies.
Every so often I add a baked potato or small portion 3/4 cup of rice.
For the first 6 months NO SWEETS.
Now I have a few pieces of chocolate or a couple of digestive biscuits with my afternoon tea.
I've had a few muffins when I have gone out for coffee, some biscotti and cookies.
These treats mean I compensate by walking more or cutting back on my main meals.
I'm wearing KUR Veil #8 by Londontown.
I need to paint several coats to get this darker coverage.
The shade is pretty and I like how easy the Kur polishes are to apply.
I found the cutest top by Cut Loose at Adventure Clothing on Oak Bay Avenue.
It has a crinkly texture and I adore the stripes.
The pockets are a cute detail too...
This will work with my black pants, jeans and the new white pants.

Ground cover in The Humble Bungalow Garden.
Love the "almost periwinkle" blue shade.
We have a white one out front and this one is on the side near the slate patio.
We hung this vintage mirror last year before the Teeny Tiny Garden Tour.
The Hospice fundraiser had us perking up the garden for several weeks and we saw this idea in another garden and a friend gave us this mirror so we painted it black.
I quite like the effect...
All our garden furniture is black...
several iron tables and chairs
the 2 new
Adirondack chairs are black.
Lots of our pots are black too...black seems to be a good background for colours.
New black cushions for the front porch.
My usual red geraniums...
after planting, sweeping and fluffing the cushions
I brewed a pot of tea and sat on the front porch and enjoyed the peace and quiet.
~ Flowers are wonderful ~
So many varieties, colours and forms.
I love seeing flowers on my walks and when I wander around our garden.
I think I have "aged" since my surgery...
my skin feels drier and I am now using a facial moisturizing oil from Merit.
Drinking more water as I think I need to add moisture from the inside out :-))
My body has been working overtime to heal too so it might be tired.
Losing weight has shown on my face...
more wrinkles have appeared.
Well I am 71 so that's what should I expect.
I do feel like I am getting stronger and my sleep has improved.
Getting outside in the fresh air and sunshine does give me a boost.
My energy seems to be improving too...
(will work on getting stronger and report back soon with an update)
Well that's enough about me...How are YOU?
Hope that you are doing well.
Leave a comment and let me know what's new.
Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

I wouldn't worry about wrinkles at all ... your photo is beautiful. You are glowing and look happy and healthy!
Congrats on the weight loss. I know you are happy that you are getting around better now. It's no fun having pain and discomfort. And, girl... those are not wrinkles... they are signs of laughter and love and living a great life.
So pleased healing is going so well.your dr.must be happy to have such a conscientious patient!
Wow, you look great. So much accomplished. All of your hard work and determination has paid off and then some. Must feel great to feel yourself again. Walks on the beach looking for sea glass coming soon by the sounds of things. Love the new clothes. The garden looks wonderful! Thanks for sharing all that you do. I look forward to your post. For some reason, I can get your instagram page, and I don’t know why?
Merci beaucoup !
I am only stating the obvious...age is a privilege...wrinkles are natural and normal at my age!
Laughter lines are part of living...freedom to move with less pain is a JOY! I am so grateful.
I have always followed the rules...so I am taking these prescriptions for activity seriously :-))
Jenny, I have a private Instagram account so you need to ask to follow me.

I am so glad you are feeling so well and strong. Keep up the good work! I love your posts and your beautiful home and garden, thank you for continuing to brighten my day.
Good to hear that you’re able to resume your normal activities walking, a bit of shopping and getting a better nights sleep. Your porch looks very inviting, and I am sure you will get a lot of use and pleasure wearing your lovely new purchases. Vicki
You are looking good and making an excellent recovery after the surgery. Healing takes time and the pace seems different for each individual. Living pain free is the goal and being able to enjoy each day is in my opinion the ideal.
I love the black and white theme in your decor. Nice work.
So good to hear you are doing so well - and you look great! Wrinkles - and I don't see many - only show where the smiles have been. I am so impressed that you lost 25 pounds. I lost 30 pounds about 20 years ago, kept it off, and now BAM, the pounds shot up. Very impressed you gave up alcohol. Just back from a river cruise with lots of wine...hard to resist, but seeing you progress makes me think about it. Your flowers and porch are beautiful - Happy Spring!
Congratulations on your recovery from surgery. You are doing so well! And also kudos for losing weight. You have been very disciplined.
These past few days have been so lovely and I have great hopes for being able to sit outside soon.
Your new clothes fit so well into your wardrobe.
Leslie, I'm so happy your hip is coming along. Congratulations on your weight loss, a monumental achievement for us mature women. I'm glad you'll be well enough to enjoy the springtime!
Your new hairstyle looks so cute on you.
New hip, new hair!
Hi Leslie, I'm super late to your post but wanted to comment on how happy I am that you continue to improve and heal. I really liked this post too; it was very far ranging and fun. Your dishes look so fresh and healthy and appetizing, hearty congrats on the weight loss for your health & well being!! Love the new outfits, especially the top, which looks just your style. You know, you have a great sense of self in your style; everything looks perfectly suited to you and flows together. That's not always easy. Finally, you look just lovely in your photo! But, I must concur with the general observation that the thinner one becomes the more lines might show; I for one am whippet-thin (way way too much so but I can't help it), and have an absolute road map of wrinkles for my age. Oh well! C'est la vie, eh?
Erina
Thank you...if you leave me your name at the end of the post I can get to know you better :-))
Hi Vicki,
I am starting to get more mobile and have been walking a lot in my neighbourhood...checking out the free wee libraries and looking at the beautiful gardens...snapping photos.
Nothing like a fresh hair style to perk one up...I am trying to balance my activity and sitting so that I keep a healthy balance!! Pain free is definitely the goal :-))
Ann,
Oh when we go on our planned cruise I do plan to have some wine...I should be much faster at my walks by then too and we can explore the ports that the cruise ship stops at...weight fluctuations are really tough...and holidays are not the time to start a diet...enjoy your week Ann,
XO
We are so fortunate that we can pop out to visit the Butchart Gardens...our weather has been lovely lately...I imagine you'll be out on the boat for some extended holidays soon.
We'll be heading to Pender too...and the flowers are so cheerful right now ~ have fun in your garden.
Hi Maggie,
Hope all is well with you...
I am pleased that my surgery is behind me and the timing seems good now our weather has warmed up for my forays in the garden and my "prescribed" daily walks! Feel so grateful for these "gifts."
XO
Thank you :-))
OOH ...your thin physique must be genetic. I think our metabolisms are responsible for a LOT.
Wrinkles are a given when one reaches a certain age...I am after all 71 so it is to be expected and I am not concerned at all.
Having fun and enjoying life is healthy...at least fit is for me.
Take care Erina...
