Saturday Snippets ~ December 27th...

Thank you for all your Christmas Greetings :-))

Last post I fell behind responding as
I've been busy with the festive celebrations...
not enough hours in the day to do everything so some things fell by the wayside.

We've never been restrained when it comes to white fairy lights!!
They illuminate our dark bungalow and add warmth and ambiance.

Sabayons, a new store in our downtown opened up just before Christmas.
It is a special place with imported stock mostly from Europe.

It is the second store run by the owners of the Market Garden on Catherine Street.
Which is our "go to" for interesting and different food items.

Displays are exquisite...

The store is full of gorgeous things...who doesn't LOVE a picnic hamper?

Creative paper mache flowers were dotted around the shop.

Choose your own shade of paper and have some creative fun...

Soaps were plentiful and we opted not to buy any this trip.
 Next time...LOOK OUT !

I sniffed all the varieties and can say that I am smitten with their fragrances...
they'll make great gifts and I may need to test out a bunch to decide on the best one.

Eye Candy...

The attention to detail reminds me of Paris Shops and window displays.
I am already excited to go back.

They are working on the second floor of the store.
This was the floor above the escalator...
the area where we glimpsed
the pianist playing the grand piano!

We purchased:

Raspberry Vinegar
Hot Pepper Jam
Honey Mustard
French Sable Cookies
Scented Candle

We've been using our new crib board and playing 2 games most days...
Hubby wins!
(I enjoy the game so I win too)

Boxing Day table set for our darling daughter and her husband.

On the menu...

Prime Rib of Beef Roast
Yorkshire Pudding
Maple Glazed Carrots
Brussell Sprouts
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy

Pavlova
topped with Bonne Maman Lemon Curd
Kiwi and Blueberries
and
Coconut Whipped Cream

I left the coconut whip off the dessert and had everyone top their own slice.
(I tend to go overboard with the whip)
You can see the two aerosol cans in the background.
(Lazy way of serving whipped cream, I know)

Mrs. Claus bought herself a cozy jacket...
I tried on the hooded version with plaid lining but the colour was not that flattering.

Quilted in navy blue...a shocking departure from the usual BLACK!

I need to branch out a bit more...take a risk.

Hope that you enjoyed your festivities and are ready to ring in the New Year.

In other news...
I got my surgery date and await further instructions and appointments.
Hopefully the procedure will go ahead as planned and that the results will be good.

The recovery sounds fairly quick but there are lots of rules, do's and don'ts.
Exercises and physio appointments.

By all accounts, if things go well, 3 months is the "back to normal" goal.

I'll close for now as we have to get ready for tomorrow when we host a games night and dinner here with our son, his girlfriend and the 3 grands.

All The Best To You!

Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

Sabayons looks amazing. What a treat to have such a shop in your area. It really is eye candy : love the paper flowers, the soap, and the picnic baskets. Your Boxing Day table looks very elegant indeed against the backdrop of your lights and tree. The pavlova looks so delicious. I am sorry you are having surgery, and hope it all goes well. 3 months is quite a long recovery. Happy New Year!

Your new jacket looks very pretty. With your recent weight loss and preparation for your surgery, I am sure that you will recover well. I can hardly wait to visit Sabayon. I remember buying things in Saba’s in Vancouver. They had lovely children’s wear and fabrics. Enjoy your game day. Christina got me a little card game and we have played it since Christmas. It’s called Tidying the Library. Happy New Year!

You will have to tell me how your surgery goes. I’ve decided to wait until early fall, but I’m still apprehensive. Boxing Day dinner looked delicious. Wish we celebrated this in the US. After COVID, so many boutiques and small shops in my area never reopened. In fact, we also lost many big chains, like Macy’s, left thus leaving us with few choices for shopping. It has really changed my habits. I almost never “go shopping” anymore.

I know what you mean with "husband wins"! I take it he wins most games. Same here! The new jacket is great - good choice on the navy. Much good luck on your upcoming surgery. Happy New Year!

The new shop is a breath of fresh air, our downtown needs more independent merchants. The surgery should alleviate a lot of pain and mobility issues...
With a hip replacement there is a lot of recovery time to get the hip muscles back in action (physio and exercises) and the replacement joint socket needs to heal...total recovery is considered to be a year, but back into fitness routines and longer walks is considered to be 3 months.

Am looking forward to a new and improved hip!! The jacket was a wee splurge...I actually don't own a winter jacket so I felt like it was a needs must purchase!!

Saaba's was a great store...I bought a wool Irish fisherman's sweater at the shop when I was 13 or 14...I still remember trying it on in Saba's...while my mom was shopping for sewing fabrics. Tidying the library sounds interesting...must look it up and see what it's about...Happy New Year!

I will post when I can after my surgery...the dat is in February so I hae time to prepare the necessary "hospital" supplies. The recovery will be here at home so my husband will be my "nurse!" Covid hit hard here with shops and restaurants closing but there seems to be a resurgence of new spots to eat and a few more retail shops....I feel it is my duty to shop local so that we have a vibrant and varied community of shops. I am very much a touch and feel kind of shopper and I must try things on...I hate having to return things and online shopping is not much fun.

I don't quite understand how my husband gets such good cards? I feel like I am a good player too so I keep on trying...
Happy New Year Jeannine XO

Happy New Year!.I am sending good wishes for your surgery and recovery. I have mentioned before, I had both of mine done in 2020. It was life changing. I hadn't realized how limited in my activities I had become. It is a bit of a challenge at first, but doing your due diligence pre and post surgery really is the key. You will do well!
