Am enjoying a very peaceful morning here in The Humble Bungalow...
Hot Coffee, read a few chapters in my new book.
Took a hot shower
prepped the sourdough bread.
Beeswax melting slowly...pooling and coating the icy candlestick.
Oddly the other beeswax candles are not dripping like this one.
Perhaps there is a story behind this?
I did a quick search and the internet says...
The wick was too short...a tall pillar candle needs a wick that is 1/2 an inch
~ OR ~
the candle had not been burned long enough the first time to establish a "memory" which prevents tunnelling.
Who Knew?
(I know now)
I made a batch of my Christmas nuts...
they are a favourite among friends and family.
Very simple to make and they are a great Hostess Gift!
~ Christmas Nuts ~
2 cups each ~ almonds, walnuts, pecans
1 1/3 cups sugar
2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. allspice
2 tsp.cinnamon
2 tsp. coriander
2 tsp. ginger
2 egg whites
3 tbsp. water
In a large bowl:
Sprinkle nuts with sugar and spices.
Beat egg whites and add water, mix into bowl of nuts.
Spread on a buttered sheet pan.
Bake at 275 degrees for an hour...turn once after 30 minutes.
Add to jars when out of oven, leave lids off until they are cool.
(if you let the nuts cool on the pan they stick!)
Enjoy
Patterns galore....
New to me...
Linen and feather pillow.
~ Above the Farmhouse Sink ~
a wide ledge for an array of "things"
my daily view.
I like to look at at variety of things when I do my dishes.
Candles, flowers, and the occasional seasonal accents frequently appear.
WOW
what an amazing book.
Sensitive subject matter but so incredible.
A MUST READ
I dried oranges in the oven and wired them to a wreath with greenery.
The oranges are sliced thinly then dabbed with a paper towel
to soak up some of the juices...
place slices on a parchment lined sheet pan
Bake at 275 for about 2 hours turning every 30 minutes until dried but not browned.

Sounds like a wonderful time nesting! The scarf is just lovely.
I’ve got both “The Impossible Fortune”, and an Airplane Scarf pattern and yarn, awaiting my attention. Happy reading, and happy knitting here in a snowy Ontario autumn.
Cozy day ! Thanks for the nut recipe - will give them a try.
Everything is so beautiful in your home. I love candles as well and have a practical question: how will you (do you) get the melted wax off the glass candleholder? I find it impossible to get all of it off mine. 🌟
It's absolutely weather for hunkering down, knitting reading and baking. I haven't visited your blog for a while, and it's nice to see your cosy content again. Will be visiting Victoria the second week of December, so will hit some thrift or second hand shops. Your candlesticks are beautiful.
It is absolutely hunker down weather; reading, knitting and baking are on the to do list! I'm heading down to Victoria area in a few weeks so will try to browse some second hand and consignment shops... your candlesticks are beautiful! Are they Iittala?
I just finished listening to The Impossible Fortune on Audible ,really enjoyed it. Your scarf looks like it will be very soft and warm for the cold winter to come. Vicki
I loved The Postcard.
Susan, to remove old wax from a holder, pop into the freezer for about an hour, then old wax will come out easily 🕯
Susan , if you put your candle holder in the freezer for about an hour, the wax will come away easily. Colleen 🕯
In reply to Susan, if you pop your candle holders in the freezer for about an hour, the old wax can easily be chipped off.
Wonderful post and beautiful and heartwarming photos. ❤️ Warm greetings from Montreal, Canada 😊 ❤️ 🇨🇦
The scarf is very cozy...it was finished at te Yoga and Knitting Retreat on Salt Spring Island!
Oh I hope that you enjoy the book and the scarf pattern :-))
I have trouble NOT eating the nuts when I make them...they are great on a charcuterie board...with blue cheese or brie.
I actually scrape off the bigger bits then warm up my candle holder in hot water in the kitchen sink and wipe off most of the wax with a scrubble...it takes a bit of effort but I don't want to risk the possibility of the freezer and fracture of these vintage candle sticks.
Hope that you have a fun time here in Victoria...Do try and go to Good Things in Oak Bay, any of the WIN thrift shops, Super Chance in James Bay and if you are up for a big shop Value Village is a huge thrift!!
Am just getting over a cold so I have been reading a LOT and cocooning under a blanket staying warm and cozy.
The candlesticks are Ittala...by Timo Sarpaneva. Have fun thrifting...hope you get some great things when you are in town.
