Shopping ~ a mix of items....some surprisingly good quality and much more economical than expected.

Crisp George brand Cotton Shirt
White Athletic Works Tee
(Walmart)

Baroque Pearls from Hong Kong

(a mix of high and low)

Athletic Works Black Shorts
(Walmart)
First pair of shorts in at least a decade.
Will be worn on hot days at the cottage...

Comfy Vessi Sneakers
waterproof
(Nicholas Randall)

~ Casual Chic ~

Shirt is longer so will be a good pairing with the shorts and the Tee.

Canadian Marcelle Mascara

My favourite kind of mascara wand...
basic black and the formula is free of clumps.

~ Little Black Dress ~
I spied this dress on the sale rack at our local Marshall's Shop.
It looked loose fitting, easy to wear and cool for this heat wave that we are having...
I wore it twice this past week and it was a winner!

The Debra K handmade necklace has been in my jewellry collection for about 17 or 18 years...it is a black plastic "FIMO" type base with vintage clear crystals.
Very versatile and a fun piece that makes a statement.
It was an "investment" piece at the time of purchase but if you factor in the CPW
(Cost per wearing)
it has been a real bargain.

Cupid's Dart
happily blooming on the patio
growing and thriving in a big terra cotta pot.
I love the colour.

More lavender sachets...
these ones are smaller as the Dollar Store had sold all the larger gauzy bags.
Great for gifts and perfect to pop into a lingerie or sweater drawer.

Our lavender is having a fabulous year!
The bees are abuzz and so busy collecting pollen.
At any given time there are about 3 different types of bees hard at work.
I tried to get pictures of all the different bees but they were too fast!!

New backpack bag...
great for picnics, beach combing, walks, shopping and holiday time at the cottage.

Lots of compartments, zippered sections.
Ample room for all my basics, a book, water, snack, and some treasures...
hands free shopping!

As I was leaving to go to my Yoga Class....
I spied some hungry visitors.

Twins that were busy munching the Alstromeria and some Hostas!
Too cute to scare away...
as soon as they get bigger they won't fit through the openings in the front gate.

Went to my hairdresser today for a CHOP!
I haven't seen her for several months and my hair was a MESS!
She cut the back up shorter in a wedge (as per my request)
then left the sides a bit shorter
but long enough for the hair to fall in waves and curls.

I look so much like MOM.
( I miss her so much)
Would love to walk along the Esplanade, then go to the Willows Tea Room with her.
We used to do that so often on a sunny afternoon.
XO

Hope that your summer is ticking along nicely...
what are you up to?

Travel, picnics, garden parties, teas, lunches out with friends and family?
Cottage time, boating, camping, day trips, adventures, staycations?

Take care and thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.

Until next time...

~ BE WELL AND BE KIND ~

~ Sweet Peas ~
Matucana Heritage Sweet Peas
(1680's UK variety)
from Westcoast Seeds.

Mr. HB is so clever...he keeps me supplied with these fragrant flowers.
Thank you darling..

I like the lightness of the cut...easy for the hot summer weather...

Thank you Denise L...such an improvement! I like a refresh and often forget to book hair appointments in a timely fashion.

Love the new cut! You look amazing.

Fabulous hair cut. It suits you so well! I love my crossbody bag but it can be hard on the shoulder, a backpack is so sensible. I always tuck a ziplock bag in mine for beach treasures and on hot days a wet a wet washcloth

Really like your new haircut. We are heading up to a friend’s cottage for a couple of days. It is right on the shore of Lake Huron our heat wave is over temporarily, so it shouldn’t be too hot

Love your new haircut and I also got my first pair of shorts in over 10 years this summer! They're a dark denim that hit to my knee and I've gotten more wear out of them already than I expected.

Great finds - love the dress. I just found some great shorts at the Talbots outlet near me. Bought them in black and thought just for around the house, but they look so good and it has been so hot I am wearing them out and about. Loved them SO much that on the way home from a recent road trip wearing different navy shorts I stopped at another outlets, bought them in navy, had them cut off the tags and wore them home! They don't wrinkle, wider legs, and a panel in the front to slim your tummy! Hoping to find them next year in many colors. Your hair looks SO good - and loved your comment about your mom. I find myself looking more and more like mine - and miss our days of marathon shopping and lunch together. I often see a mom and daughter out shopping and I want to say "enjoy every moment..." We can enjoy our memories!

I'm behind, but love your posts. Love the outfits you showed and that necklace is great. I can see that shirt is a great basic.

Great new haircut, Leslie. I like the new striped shirt. I find I wear buttoned shirts more and more, they are cool, but keep my skin covered, and are great worn open over a t-shirt.
Sweet peas are going like gangbusters here - I change out the bouquets regularly.

Oh gosh...that's lovely to hear...as a woman of a certain age...one does wonder. My hairdresser is very clever.

Oh a washcloth in a ziploc bag is a good idea...I used to pack those on beach outings when my children were small.

Hope that you have a wonderful time at the cottage....summer getaways are so lovely !!

Thank you Brenda...I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment :-))

Thank you! It's a cooler cut for summertime and I may just keep it short.

Well isn't that interesting that we are both venturing into Shorts after such a long time!! I don't know about you but I am feeling the heat a lot more than I used to...it zaps my energy.

Thank you...

I only buy what goes with my wardrobe...that way I can mix and match the items.

Black shorts are a wise buy...they are very versatile and you can dress them up or dress them down...My husband commented on my hair saying I looked more like Mom...it is true! But that's fine by me...she was a classy gal. Memories mean more to me than I ever imagined and I feel so grateful that I spent so much time having fun with mom.
Savour those precious moments

That necklace was a fun purchase...I had no idea that I would wear it on repeat and still love it after all these years.
Th shirt is great as a casual "jacket" ...I am loving these crisp shirt as well as my worn denim ones.

Striped shirts are a basic...they can be worn all year and layer them in cold weather. I wear mine over a tee too...sweet peas have been really star performers in our garden and I seem to have a fresh bouquet every week.

Love the blog. Your new style is fabulous on you!! Your selection of the white pinstriped shirt with the tshirt and black shorts, so classic and preppy. I am originally from New England and the preppy look was very popular back when I was in my teens and early to mid 30s. Everything was so enjoyable!

I love that loose style of your hair—would love to see the side and back views too!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

I remember when the preppy look hit the fashion scene...I am dating myself :-)) There was a book out about the style...Think it was called The Preppy Handbook...you might have even had a copy?

Alas I am a one woman blogging / show with no selfie stick so it is not likely that you'll get a peek of the other angles...

I’m so glad I found your blog again. I believe it was 2011 when I started following and somehow, I lost contact. But today I happened upon my list of blogs and I’m thrilled. I’ll enjoy catching up. I need to figure out how to add a picture to my profile. If anyone knows how, please share. Be well.
