Rather a busy weekend...

This past weekend was full of activity but it was a pleasant balance of work and play...

A little bit of shopping

(these did not come home with me)

I wore my pearl pendant...
a 60th birthday gift from my kids.
(They are grown adults now but they'll always be my "babies!")
J'adore Pearls!

A little time was spent in the garden
dead heading hydrangeas and harvesting our first Liberty apples.

Mr. HB took me out for lunch to the Oak Bay Beach Hotel.
I had a huge salad...a Weight Watchers friendly choice.
Delicious and so very healthy.
My weight is up a couple of pounds over my "goal weight" but I am working at getting it back down.

I weeded my closet...donated a bag to the charity shop.
Then I took the remaining summer clothes downstairs to the guest room closet.

My dressy clothes are made up mostly of black and grey shades.

They had a 30% off sale this weekend which ends today ~ Monday.
One white, a bright purple blue and a raspberry.

Last Spring in Paris I had my colours done.
Turns out that I am a Winter...
(who knew?)
Slowly embracing colour and they all go with my black basics and my Hermes scarves!

Jamie at Home Cookbook.

Delicious and an easy one pan dinner.

This was the scene that I saw when I walked along the seafront this week...

I'm exploring a new hobby.
Mah Jongg.
The lessons start this week.

Want to keep my brain cells vibrant and stimulated...
learning something new is always exciting.

Hope that your week is off to a flying start!

The seaside views are so gorgeous and serene. I love the idea of learning new activities and keeping the mind sharp. I need to get my wardrobe to a more simple but elegant state. I have way too many things going on in that closet. Have a wonderful week!

You've been a very busy lady, Madame Hiver (Mrs. Winter)!

Your being a lovely "Winter," did your Paris colorist tell you that you should wear a Snow white, not a creamy white? I am a Winter, and as I've added a few years, my skin now has a bit of red in it, which I do work to tone down. A creamy white (or ivory) makes me look, as the saying goes, like death warmed over. Snow White also goes better with silver gray hair, or at least it does for me. 😊
I used to love to watch Jamie Oliver in his early days on TV. He really fixed some smashing food and made it look soooo easy.

I am now a "winter" as well. It is the silver tinsel because when I was "auburn", I was definitely an "autumn". I just bought a grey scarf with silver butterflies on it in Greenwich Village yesterday, it just "lifts" my face. Is the Jamie meal WW-friendly? I am determined to follow the plan this winter. Were the Hermès jeans very expensive? Your hair is growing to a nice length. We are sitting in the airport waiting for our AC flight to rainy YVR. I guess it is time to put summer togs away!

From Margie in Toronto - I stayed at the Oak Bay Beach hotel years ago and it was lovely - but I can see from their website that they have certainly expanded since then - looks gorgeous!

Love your necklace - I too love pearls.

I'm a winter and love my blacks & greys (and yes, I wear a clear white) - accent colours for this Fall/Winter are red and pink. I've become a real fan of The Vivienne Files and have been working my way through her older posts - she has really kept me on the straight and narrow with my Fall shopping.

That chicken looks delicious - need to get back into a cooking mood now that the weather is getting cooler.

I think that's why you look so lovely in black - because you are a winter. Your dinner looks wonderful. We are visiting Boston this week with my parents - celebrating our 35th and parent's 60th anniversaries. Lots of great sites to see. Lots of walking!

I'm planning on switching around my summer clothes to my Fall/Winter clothes this week, too!! The evenings are much cooler now. Besides, nothing says "cozy" than a warm sweater :)
Your pictures of our coast line are awesome. Aren't we blessed with such beautiful surrounds!! What a lovely treat to have lunch at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel :) I use to babysit Shawna Walker, one of the owners there!! Small world, hey?
Your oven meal looked delicious and simple. Fall is a great time for those "cozy" one pan dinners :)

Oh my gosh! Is color me beautiful back in fashion?! I'm a "vivid winter". My mom was a color me beautiful consultant and was VERY into it.

I like to try new things...refining a wardrobe is a very personal journey.
I have a very small closet so it's much easier...in a 1912 home the storage is almost non existent!

Oui Oui Mme Devenis!

I was instructed to wear pure colours... and yes to snow white!
Pairing white with silver jewelry (or hair) and faded pale blue denim are a winning combo.

The Jamie Oliver dish is a bit on the point heavy side as there is a bit of olive oil and the chicken skin...which you can remove before eating... but it keeps the thighs moist and adds flavour while roasting....remember portion control and plan a walk and you should be good!
You should be home by now...your hubby and puppy would have missed you.

Margie,
The Hotel has been completely rebuilt....I worked there as a teen and it was old and tired back then! What stories I could tell....
Janice has a great eye for colour and her blog is one that I never miss reading...I think she could write a book on fashion and wardrobe basics...maybe she will!

Sounds wonderful...two generations celebrating and on holidays together. Enjoy!

I worked there when Mrs. Wooliams was the manager...I was terrified of her...she was very strict and everything had to be just so.
When I started there I was 15. There was a punch time clock by the ice machine...I wore a balck dress uniform with a white apron and shoes...we were packed every night and lots of tourists dined in the dining room...weddings in the lobby and the room service phone rang constantly! Hard Work!
The Butchart Family (Butchart Gardens) dined there often and the youngest child drank milk out of a champagne flute!
I don't know the Walker family...Victoria is a very small town in so many ways!

I have no idea whether it is in or out...I am probably coming very late to the colour game. You probably know way more about it than I do...I wonder what the difference between "winter" and "vivid winter" is! Any thoughts?
One of the women we met on our Ooh La La Paris Tour was a colour consultant and so she shared her expertise with us...

No I think it's been around long enough to be making its way back around! I'd be happy if it became popular again. It really is a good system. Though can be a bit rigid. I think the vivid version of seasons is based on contrast. Because I have fair skin, dark dark hair, and cool blue eyes (vs blue with streaks of gold) I *think* that's what defines a vivid. So I "can" wear the most vivid shade of (cool) red and stark white. I think it's a fun system. Though I do feel it can be a little stifling to tell people they shouldn't wear this color or that color. I think I'm not supposed to wear pastels but tend to wear pastel oxfords most of the time. It's interesting advice but I don't follow it as gospel. But I've always considered season when formulating color for my clients.

Another Winter about to sort the wardrobe. It would have been done on Monday but my brother arrived to stay the night so I was busy tidying and cooking. As I'm having my hair cut on Friday I'll wait until then as a new style will inspire me to be more ruthless with the down sizing. Loving your photos as usual. I envy you your sea views.

Fun post, filled with lots of interesting tidbits. Your one-dish meal looks scrumptious. I'm a "winter," too, and any color I wear is pure and not muddy. I find that I can wear ivory white as well as pure white, but not cream. The difference is subtle but the latter makes me look like tired and haggard.
Beautiful weather we're having!

Oh I love having my hair styled...it feels a bit like reinventing ourselves.
Enjoy your new look and hope it helps you get energized about your wardrobe...there's always the option of a few new pieces to compliment your new hair!!

It turned out to be a lovely afternoon...a bit chilly in the shade but great for walking and gardening. You look fabulous in blue...it brings out your eyes.

I transferred my wardrobe over from autumn/ winter to spring /summer this week. I had the overwhelming urge to throw most of the clothes out . The fear of having nothing to wear stopped me though. Now I'm retired I too need a different type of wardrobe. I detest shopping but I can sew so it spurred me on to get the machine busy. I'm going over your old posts to get some tips.
Thanks for the inspiration
Must try the chicken dish.

Karen,
If you can sew your own clothing you are so fortunate...I imagine creating new garments that are one of a kind or bespoke is rather like haute couture. A basic dress pattern in black for starters and a pair of well fitting black pants and a skirt and there are your core pieces that can take you anywhere...what fun to embark on a new wardrobe!

Hi from another winter. Like Lorrie, I can wear off white but not cream. I've had that colour swatch wallet thingy for 40 years. However, I do not like all the winter colours (very pale blue) and like Margie I love pink. Your closet looks perfectly attuned to your palette!

You are lucky to be a winter since it seems to me those colors are readily available. After mant years of reading about color seasons and guessing myself as a summer, I recently learned that I am a Light Spring. As I have gotten older, it seems that wearing flattering colors has become helpful. My style is very simple, so splashes of color liven my wardrobe up. The light warm shades make me look younger too. If you ever have the inclination, it would be interesting to hear a little on your experience learning you were a winter.
