The first week our son and three grandchildren were here at the cottage so we slept on our boat at the marina...
we had full busy days with swimming, crafts and pool time.
Our grands made fast friends with the neighbour's grandchildren from the cottage across the street. They had oodles of fun together...made some great memories.
After the family left it was very quiet but we manage to keep ourselves entertained with the usual routine...
lazy mornings with our mugs of coffee
gazing out at The Salish Sea watching for sea life and birds
our habit of looking for 5 ferries at once...we call it Ferry Yachtzee!
I finished this fabulous book last night before dinner
will be starting the next one sometime today!
reading our books
walks along the beaches
beach combing for sea glass
going to the Farmer's Market
swimming in the pool
eating tasty simple meals
Cottage Fruit Crumble
4-5 cups fruit
I used blueberries and Gravenstein apples
place in a buttered deep ovenproof pie pan
add a few tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
a sprinkle of cinnamon
Topping
1 cup flour
1/2 cup room temperature butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
Cut the butter into the flour
when blended add the brown sugar
Cover the fruit mixture
Bake at 375 degrees for 35-40 minutes
Serve with ice cream, whipped cream or yogurt.
Enjoy!
going to bed early
waking soon after the sun rises
a simple routine
We saw 2 humpback whales swimming past the cottage last night!
Big excitement!
We shared the binoculars...saw their water spouts and they were breaching!
This morning the sun is shining and the seas are calm...
we will let the day unfold slowly while we quietly sip our coffee.
I will hit publish before I have my second cup of coffee on the deck...
Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog.
Enjoy your weekend!

I love your sunflowers. Cottage days are so special! Your grands will have great memories of your time together.
ReplyDeleteSunflowers are so cheerful and plentiful at the markets and farms at this time of year. They last quite a long time too so I usually buy a bunch.
DeleteThe cottage summertime memories are really a gift for all of us. ❤️
It all looks so beautiful, and relaxing. Such a wonderful place to be.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a special spot and the weather has been great! Hope your summer has been a good one too Jane.
DeleteOh this sounds just wonderful. I can feel the stress melting away just reading about it. How did Isla and Henry (it is Henry, right?) get to be the same size?! Goodness kids grow up so fast.
ReplyDeleteI think Henry is going to be tall and Isla is shorter like me! A gorgeous setting for the cottage and a quiet respite for a holiday. There was a lot of activity and it was boisterous and loud when the three littles were here! Such fun and now they are off to their grandmas cabin on the beach in Qualicum for another week of holidays.
DeleteALL SOUNDS SO SUMMERY!!!

DeleteIt seems like perfect holiday to me! First your grands, enjoying the sea and the company ( sea holiday friends-beautiful memories, and you can look for next year reunion!) and the second week-a bliss!
ReplyDeleteThose sunflowers are lovely and does your pool stay so nice, without other swimmers, all the time?
Dottoressa
Oh the pools are usually busy! The family pool is quite large but there are many kids jumping and splashing so when it’s just my husband and I we go to the adult only pool at the Marina and swim laps if it’s not full of people! I hope that the grands will want to come every year to the cottage for a week.
DeleteI always enjoy seeing photos of your life at your Cottage, love seeing the water in the background. I'm sure your grands had a great time, what a special place to visit their grandparents. The sunflowers are so cheerful! The other bouquet is pretty also. Thanks for sharing, it's like a mini vacation for us also.
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear that you enjoyed seeing some of our snapshots from the cottage...family, sunshine, flowers books, food and the ocean all contribute to make our holidays a delight. Simple things for which I am truly grateful.
