from the innocent shelf in the pharmacy
to the red cup...
Essie Jag-U-Are red nails
the red stripe in my Burberry scarf
The red fire engine that was called to our hotel when we had to evacuate
(it was a false alarm)
dinner out at our favourite Indian fusion restaurant
curried lamb popsicles served on a bed of potatoes
beef curry and kale
naan bread
I had an entire day to spend in Vancouver while Mr. HB was on course.
I walked for hours browsing and exploring the shops.
One blue top...on sale.
a pair of NYDJ boyfriend style jeans
(I LOVE THESE)
a wee bit of a splurge
I needed to stop for a break after 4 hours...
lettuce wrap
shrimp, crab, coleslaw and a few crunchy noodles
I bought this Hermes fragrance after discovering it in Paris when I was there...
it is a soft feminine scent that I quite love.
(the bottle is refillable)
I love a getaway where I can browse and shop...
and we came home
to a date night at the theatre
A Fabulous production
in the meantime...

Lovely day in pictures!
ReplyDeleteIt must have been stressful to evacuate the hotel.
We have exactly the same scarf :-)- here is again less cold,so mine is still in my closet
I hope you've bought the jeans,too-they looks perfect!
And the show seems like a (red!) cherry on the icing on the cake of the beautiful day

My heart was pounding during the evacuation...I had the foresight to grab my purse, phone and coat and then I ran down the stairway...by the time I reached the lobby I was shaking...scared but safe. It felt good to get outside and breathe the fresh air...and I calmed down when I heard that it was a false alarm...now I have an inkling of the fear that my daughter and her husband experienced after being jolted awake in their hotel in Wellington after that large earthquake.
DeleteThe jeans are fabulous! Nice to think of you wearing them too and perhaps with our same scarf...
Oh, I'm off to that show this weekend with my mom! I've heard good things. A day in Van looks so restful. Hope you are well, my dear.
ReplyDeleteHi Sheila,
DeleteNice to hear from you...hope you are well.
I think you'll really enjoy the performance...and how wonderful that you are going with your mom.
I am well...still working on those pesky 5 pounds but not giving up...if I need to go back to WW you'll be seeing me at the meetings!
We saw the show last week and loved it, though it was the US election night and the usual intermission buzz was absent!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you enjoyed the play...it was very energetic and perfectly orchestrated. I can imagine that the mood was rather tense on election night!
DeleteYour day looked lovely, your jeans look great. Do you get snow where you live? We made it to 36deg centigrade today, had to turn the air con on this afternoon. Have a great weekend. Friday night here 😘
ReplyDeleteWe usually have milder winters here in Victoria but we have had snowfalls over the years...one year we had a huge snowfall and it brought the city to a halt as virtually no traffic could move due to the fact that we have little snow removal machinery.
DeleteEnjoy your weekend...sounds like a hot one.
I do love the blue top. It is a shape that, I think, elevates an everyday tee. So I bought two this summer and never regretted it.
ReplyDeleteLoved your pictures. What a wonderful day!
I would have purchased another tee in the same style if they had it in a colour that I liked but the other option was a cinnamon brown...not great on me.
DeleteThe shape is good as it offers the much needed mid section camouflage!
It looks like you had fun. A wee break in routine is great. I would like to see the show but we have arrived at the busy time. That top will be a really good addition to your wardrobe. I am enjoying what I already own right now. No shopping for me for a while. Happy Friday
ReplyDeleteThe top is replacing another blue top that was pilled and faded after much wear...the jeans are in addition to my other jeans...a. different style this time...i wash my NYDJ in cold water inside out and hang them to dry and they last longer that way...my other jeans are several years old and still going strong
DeleteWhat a great city break! Glad you had fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you Patricia, It is nice to get away for a few days...I lifts the spirits even if I do not buy anything it is fun to look at different shops.
DeleteLove these types of posts! Thanks for sharing ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure Lori...I enjoy sharing the fun stuff!
DeleteOh what fun you had here in Vancouver. Love that colour of Essie nail polish. It's been forever since I put on nail polish. One reason is that my hands are so often in paint and paint solvents that it's really not worth the trouble, but I did buy a lovely Essie red for the summer retro festival we went to, and it peeled off my nails within a day. Kind of like a smooth plastic stick-on. Weird. I was left wondering if over the millions of years I haven't worn polish if somehow the polish changed and evolved to a peel-off sort of thing. (shrug) Like the beautiful old Chanel polishes which used to cost a fortune and last one day.
ReplyDeleteVancouver has so much to offer...I love visiting.
DeletePolishing your nails when working with solvents would be frustrating...like when I am in the garden I dare not wear any!
My DIL gave me a really beautiful Dior polish and a top coat which helps it last longer...I like the Essie polishes too as they are reasonably priced and last quite well.
Fantastic get away! Touring the shops close to the holidays is so festive. The decor really puts everyone in the spirit. Your top and jeans are a great find. Coming home to date night! Lucky girl. Joni Mitchell is an all time favorite. Love her music. Cheers - Susan
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun 3 days...the rest f the weeks has been quite busy and I am in need of a quiet few days now!
DeleteWhat a fabulous day! Lucky you and the dinner looks delicious. I bet it was yummy.
ReplyDeleteIndeed it was...and I did not have to cook for two days!
DeleteWonderful day, love the outfits!
ReplyDeleteThank you Karen!
DeleteHope your weekend is going well...
How very fun! Your red manicure is so chic. I adore VJ's. Lucky you. You've intrigued me about that fragrance so I'll be checking into it. Have a lovely weekend!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you like the scent...it is soft and feminine.
DeleteOh, I love those NYDJ jeans too; I had a pair that last for years, but have been unable to find more. So pleased to see they are still around! A day in Vancouver sounds very good fun despite the hotel evacuation. It happened to us once in Philadelphia and I remember the pounding heart as we walked down the stairwells. Fortunately it ended quite quickly and no harm done. The Joni Mitchell play is on my wish list now!
ReplyDeleteI think that you should be able to find some NYDJ online if they are not in your area...I prefer to try jeans on as they all fit a bit different. This pair is looser than the other style from NYDJ that I have in my closet...I suppose that is the "boyfriend" look!
DeleteWhat a lovely 'red' day out! Love the various shades of red, mainly with black or with blue. Haven't yet tried Jour d'Hermes, but bought another bottle of 24 Faubourg eau de parfum this week, this is my favourite so far, although my ultimate favourite is Rouge d'Hermes (or something like that) which seems to be unobtainable now. I first used this in the 1980s, it came in a red box, and was the closest thing I had come to perfume perfection. I also love Caleche, of course. I say "of course" because who wouldn't love Caleche!
ReplyDeleteMargaret P
I wore 24 Faubourg awhile ago too...I am quite fond of the Hermes scents.
DeleteMr. HB wears Terre d"Hermes...
I have not tried the Caleche and I had a tester of the Rouge line many years ago...quite lovely.
I do think you would like Caleche, it's a very special fragrance, just as Mitsouko is (yes, I know that's not Hermes, but it's another I know you love.) Anyway, Leslie, I could not resist the Jour d'Hermes once I'd spied it on your blog and have ordered some ... weak-willed or what!
DeleteLove the jeans and the red nail polish, too.
Margaret P
Oh I do hope you will love the new scent! I like the Mitsouko perfume but am finding it a bit heavy and since I play bridge and go to a knitting group where I am sitting close I prefer to wear a lighter fragrance....so many are allergic to perfume...the theatre even suggests that we opt not to wear scented products.
DeleteI would love to see that play, love her music so much. Sounds and looks like a fun weekend getaway. Glad you found good jeans.
ReplyDeleteGood jeans that are comfy and fit well are an essential in my wardrobe...I find retirement dressing means more outfits revolve around jeans.
DeleteLovely "red" post! So glad your fire drill was a false alarm (and glad to know your daughter and SIL are also well). Love your outfits, the blue top is a great shape and flattering with those jeans. Snazzy nail polish....and to end it all with the music of Joni Mitchell - how grand. jen
ReplyDeleteThank you Jen...the honeymooners are having a great time and I love hearing from them. It is so wonderful to be able to stay in touch when they are so far away!
DeleteBy any chance, is there a name inside the NYDJ. The boyfriend pair that I have are Annabelle, I think. They are my favourite and I haven't seen any more at the Bay. I have two other pairs of NYDJ but the one doesn't fit well. I hang to dry too. It keeps clothes looking better.
ReplyDeleteHopefully you weren't on a high floor when the Alarm sounded. As long as you have some clothes on, shoes purse and phone are the essentials.
No we were only on the 4th floor...but we could have been on the 20th floor!
DeleteThe name inside the NYDJ is Jessica...they are a relaxed boyfriend style.
I wash all my jeans inside out and hang them to dry...I find they last longer that way.
Thanks. The Bay online is basically my only source for NYDJ and they don't carry that style. They look exactly what I've been searching for. Oh well, maybe they'll get them later.
DeleteI started wearing Jour d'Hermes two years ago when my apartment was in the same building as the Hermes on rue de Sevres. I had time staying out of there. I wear it everyday and love it! Didn't know it was refillable though. I bought more last year at Nordstrom and it came in a set for the holidays with a small purse size bottle :)
ReplyDeleteThe sales clerk showed me the refill, it comes with a funnel and a bottle of the scent...there is a lovely gift pack for the festive season. too..a large and small purse size bottle of the fragrance and a body lotion. It would make a great gift !
