Seeing Red...

Red is a "high intensity colour"...
it grabs our attention and arouses the senses.

Wearing red lipstick or red polish always makes a bold statement.

Juicy ripe red tomatoes...tasty right out of the bowl.

One of my favourites...Red Shoes.

Saint James striped top with white pants
I think a pair of red shoes would complete this outfit.

Perhaps you prefer a red frock?

Red is high up on my radar these days...yes I am seeing lots and lots of RED!

Finished reading a red covered novel...

Stop lights, post boxes,
alarms, telephone boxes,
fire trucks, brake lights,
lipsticks, shoes,
radishes, roses...

Tea tins...

luscious red frothy petals of a David Austin Rose

freshly picked radishes from The Humble Bungalow Garden

A few of my French books...which incidentally, all have red accents on the covers.

We chose red chairs for our new patio area...
now I am on the hunt for a large red pot to fill with red geraniums.

I am dreaming of full bright red accents
everywhere I go...

Are you partial to a certain colour?

Thank you for stopping by My Humble Bungalow Blog today.

  1. From Margie in Toronto - LOVE this post and your photos are amazing! I'm a black, white & grey kind of gal and my No. 1 go to accent colour is RED - love it! I could quite happily have that as my one accent colour for the rest of my life.
I have a large red book cabinet in my living room and cushions, decorative boxes, dishes and some artwork is also in red. My favourite lipstick is Chanel's "Gabriel #444" and I am very envious of hat red striped top!
If I had to choose a second favourite it would be turquoise - I use it when decorating (most of my white kitchen's accessories are turquoise) and again I have a few pieces in the living room and bedroom. I was in Talbots the other night and could not resist a pair of summer boyfriend jeans in a bright turquoise - they just spoke to me the moment I spied them - especially since my size was sitting right on top - I took it as a sign! :-)

    1. Turquoise is a shade that I have never worn but I can see the appeal...it reminds me of the vintage 1950's fashions and formica that were very on trend back then. Love a pop of colour in the wardrobe for spring and summer...hope you will feel fabulous and energetic when you wear your new jeans.

  2. I like a pop of red here and there. Mostly I like blue, white and yellow, with a little pink in the mix. I think a big pot of red geraniums will be perfect with the chairs you've chosen.

    1. Blue and white are classic...like the antique porcelains they have stood the test of time and a pop of yellow, well that sounds perfect.

  3. Paris and Red bring to mind this blog post by Terry Dresbach on costuming for the series Outlander. Claire Fraser dressed up for an 18th century ball in Paris.

    1. Stop with the negative comments! You're extremely childish. We come to this site for it's kindness and goodwill.

    2. I simply ask that posts are labelled as sponsored or otherwise, as there seems to be an awful lot of brand names photographed and mentioned very blatantly on this blog. How does this make me childish?
Yes it's a negative comment, but a fair one, as this blog is starting to read like an advertising catalogue!
I don't appreciate the name calling, I have left constructive fair criticism and I don't take kindly to being labelled as childish
      YOU need to apologise!

    3. Why are you so defensive?
And... Anonymous "needs to apologise"? Yes, unfortunately childish comes to my mind as well...

    5. I, for one, appreciate knowing the names or sources of items mentioned by bloggers, just as I would if I were talking to a friend in person. I find it helpful to know if and why the writer uses and likes a product, and I've followed up on recommendations of books, cosmetic items, and clothing mentioned here and on other blogs. It's kind of nice to share in the collective knowledge and experience of the 'sisterhood'!

    6. Interesting that all the replies to my comment re sponsored posts are by named regulars using the anonymous option, gutless wonders!

    8. I have a name, I am not anonymous. I do not post here as Betty Crockett/Sandra Dee and then leave nasty comments as anon, which is what the rest of the anons are doing. Infact, this comment was from Leslie herself!

    9. Yes, the bottle of polish could have been photographed showing the back of the bottle only, without brand name in full view, but that wouldn't sell bottles of nail polish would it?
Sorry but I agree with Prue, there does seem to be a pushing of band names/stores/business owners names etc lately

  7. Great post Leslie. The photographs are wonderful ..such a good selection showing how a pop of red can brighten things up. I'd love some chairs like yours :)
Sorry I haven't commented recently ..busy couple of weeks! Thanks for sharing your list of books set in Paris. I'm really looking forward to buying a few or downloading them. It made me think about how many of us were lucky to be in Paris last year. At least we can "travel" there again via books and our photographs and memories :)
Congratulations to your daughter on her engagement! Happy times.
Have a good weekend.I'm away, by the sea this weekend with my daughter, so happy times here too :)

Enjoy your weekend by the sea with your daughter...that sounds like a lot of fun.

    1. I really did enjoy The Swans...I did not know what to expect but it felt quite "real" as the author captured the mood of the era and the society women's lives seemed far and away more glamourous than a pedestrian like myself could ever imagine!

  10. What a fabulous splash of vibrancy! I love a pop of red in my blue-hued decor. Love your striped top, may have to hunt for one. Have a great weekend.

    1. The Saint James line is from France...I want to buy one in navy and white now.
Good luck on your search...we have several shops that carry them here in Victoria and our city is quite small so you should be able to find a supplier fairly easily.

  11. Red makes an appearance in so many places, including our closets.
Really enjoyed the post. Just finished Swans and enjoyed it. I recall Babe Paley from articles and photos, so glamorous. Interesting to read about the "other side" of society glamour.

  12. That lifestyle is just so far off my radar...I would have loved to meet CZ Guest and tour her gardens...as a gardener, I love to see many different styles of gardens...large or small and I understand that she was an amazing plantswoman.

  13. While I've been reading your fantastic blog for quite a while now, this is the first time I'm commenting! I used to be a midnight blue girl with touches of white and/or a subtle yellow, but now I'm really experimenting with reds - there are so many hues and my favourite is a blue based one. I might just try the red of the nail polish you featured! Thanks again for a wonderful blog.

  16. Red is my favourite colour; yet I never plant red annuals in my garden, or have red flowers in my house. I do have red cushions on my front terrace furniture, and I'm buying the wood burning Cuisinart Outdoor Oven this week; which is red.

Wow, you have a lot of Paris related books!
