Greetings from The Humble Bungalow Garden.
We have been enjoying the garden and have had a few quiet days.
We celebrated our darling grand daughter's 15th birthday and Father's Day.
Snacks on the deck with a variety of things...
cheese and crackers,
veggies and hummus,
homemade foccaccia bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar
raspberry tarts with coconut whipped cream
watermelon
Presents were well received :-))
(a list from the birthday girl helps)
We purchased some planters from the garden centre for the tour...
they are a great pop of colour.
Roses are in their glory...
May and June are the prime months for roses here in The Humble Bungalow Garden.
Climbing Royal Sunset Rose
and a riot of foxgloves dotting the perennial beds.
Josephs's Coat Rose...
a huge rose that puts on an amazing show.
Very thorny but multiple blooms on each branch.
This rose has masses of blooms...
I cannot remember the name but think it might be Mary Lester.
The bees buzz here all day long!
Darling daughter found us a fabulous silver tray...
~ arts and crafts art nouveau ~
The tray is beautiful and beside it the rose is Ambridge Rose...
it has so many blooms on it this year!
Look at the details...
morning glory?
wheat?
James F Tufts
Boston Ma. USA
Have placed it on the plate rail in the dining room for now...
it is a stunning piece.
Thank you Jennifer.
Monday morning starts with Yoga...
Thank you Jules and Ajna Studio.
I look forward to each and every class.
I came home and made a simple lunch...
sourdough bread toasted with a salmon and celery salad topping.
Open Face sandwich for me and a regular sandwich for Mr. HB
I did some clean up in the kitchen and vacuumed the floor.
I have started a knitting project using the wool that darling daughter found at the thrift shop.
I am making another Miriam sweater...
the colour is a warm beige.
Knitted a few rows then got back to the kitchen and did a fridge clean out...
Decided to make some spiced NUTS!
I know I know...it is usually a winter project
but that big bag of almonds called to me.
I only used almonds in this batch...
I use sealer jars to store these and often give these as hostess gifts.
They are so yummy!
I made a single batch today...
popped in a load of laundry while these were cooking.
Spoon them into jars right away so they don't get stuck on the sheet pan!
Cool completely before putting on the top.
Knit a few more rows...
Dinner was easy...
I made a "home grown lettuce" salad...
and
baked frozen pizzas!
I've decided that I need to pace myself...
if I have a busy day.
How is your week starting off?
I recently have received some lovely emails...
from readers that I am just getting to know.
So nice to know that after all these years there are new readers who enjoy the blog!
Love hearing from you and what you are up to...
A lovely reader shared her "comfort book" suggestion:
Pilgrim's Inn by Elizabeth Goudge.
She reads it every year.
A Gift From The Sea by Ann Morrow Lindbergh
is one of my favourite "comfort books"
Have you read it?
I have ordered Pilgrim's Inn from my favourite local bookseller
Ivy's Books in Oak Bay.
Do you have a good book suggestion?
How is your week going so far?
Thank you for stopping by The Humble Bungalow Blog
until next time...

Such a lovely garden. And the snacks for Father's Day sound so delicious and perfect! Such lovely flowers. And the tray! What a gorgeous find!!!!
ReplyDeleteDarling daughter has my style ideals and can always tempt me...I am so grateful when she sends me a text saying maybe this one???
DeleteYour garden is is so lovely! Over on the mainland, ours shines in June, and just now our agapanthus are about to bloom, to be complimented by the daylilies. The tray is stunning - great find! I do love Gift from the Sea, but my go-to comfort read is by Frances Mayes - Women in Sunlight. Three women of a certain age decide to rent a villa in Italy and all experience a sense of renewal, along with the descriptions of the gardens, the architecture, and of course, the food and wine. I would easily slip into the book as a fourth companion!
ReplyDeleteI loved that book as well! Have only read it once but I can see it might be worth revisiting!
DeleteI read Frances Mayes Women in Sunlight a few years ago...it has some lovely images and thoughts...I might need to pick it up again...
DeleteYou are a busy bee!
ReplyDeleteSilver dish is a FIND!
Yes,pacing oneself is how I operate now!
So many changes now happening to me!

I do try to have a balance...work and play...enjoy your Italian holiday!!!
DeleteThe silver tray is spectacular. I marvel at how far it has traveled from its origins in Boston all the way to Victoria Island ! It has wound up in a good home.
ReplyDeleteYes all the way from Boston...if it could only tell us the tales of it's lineage!!
DeleteBeautiful roses and garden - and great celebrations. I will look for Pilgrim's Inn. I absolutely adored the novel No Two Persons by Erica Bauermeister - so much so I read another of her books right away and just picked up 3 more from the library. She write SO beautifully and passages just speak to me - so much so I have to copy them, or read them aloud to my darling husband. Some medical visits for us - a quick black out has him wearing a heart monitor - nothing since, so hoping for a week long getaway at a few inns to visit Civil War sites in early July. Thanks for your great posts - really enjoy them!
ReplyDeleteErica Bauermeister books are so GOOD!! Hope you are both keeping well..monitors and Civil War site visits to keep you amused and informed. Keep me posted on your progress.
DeleteYour garden is magnificent! (And that tray, what a beauty!)
ReplyDeleteThe garden is a riot of colour and flowers...the tray is ao lovely and darling daughter knows me so well!!!
DeleteYour garden is so beautiful! The tray is a great addition to your decor. Thanks for sharing the nut recipe. I will definitely try it!
ReplyDeleteI hope you like the nut recipe...please let me know...we give this as hostess gifts and all the recipients say YUMM :-))
DeleteYour tray is stunning. Do you have any idea how old it is? My favourite comfort read is “Winter Solstice” by Rosemunde Pilcher. I read it every winter. I’ve saved your recipe for spiced nuts. They look so good. Hugs, Elaine
ReplyDeleteDarling daughter thinks it is from the 1800's...I read Winter Solstice years ago...I MUST read it again....Rosamunde Pilcher is a great weaver of stories...
DeleteYour flowers are beautiful! What are the pink ones in your first picture? Haven't seen any like them before, and they are lovely. Appreciated your words about easier meals and the special simple variety for your granddaughter's birthday!
ReplyDeleteThe pink flowers are foxgloves...they are a biennial...they come up every 2 years. Isla asked for a simple snack for her birthday...she is a wise granddaughter and we love her so much!
DeleteI read Gift from the Sea over 50 years ago, and remember how I like it. Thank you for the reminder: I must download it to my Kindle. Your silver tray is absolutely stunning, and what a great find by your lovely daughter. As always your roses and foxgloves are absolutely beautiful, and I am sure admired by all. A lovely post, thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI must re-read A Gift From The Sea too...the garden is keeping us busy...and we do enjoy the variety of flowers and roses.
DeleteI have a rose similar to your Joseph’s coat, but mine is called Summer Sun. It is just getting ready to bloom. The silver tray is beautiful and your snacks look delicious.
ReplyDeleteSummer Sun sounds like a lovely name for a sunny orange yellow rose!!
DeleteJune is your garden’s month to shine! Happy birthday to your GD. co
ReplyDeleteJuliet...Isla is 15...and we cannot quite believe it!! The Humble Bungalow Garden is in her glory in June! Especially the roses.
DeleteYou have the most gorgeous roses. That tray is stunning!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sheila...I so enjoy your walks with you dear Mom and you...I think of my mom often when I read your posts.
DeleteAnother soothing post ! Visiting Annapolis Royal and enjoying beautiful gardens..so much to see and learn. Elizabeth Goudge is a wonderful writer, often overlooked. Worth reading. You may also enjoy the Cazlet chronicles. You have a beautiful garden..and yes it’s so important to stop and enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI read those Cazalet Chronicles...during Covid lockdown...I have to tell myself...stop and rest! No one else can monitor my days except me!! I am my own boss.
DeleteMy favourite comfort book is “Winter Solstice” by Roseamunde Pilcher. I read it every winter, just before Christmas. Your new silver tray is stunning. Hugs, Elaine
ReplyDeleteThis might be a duplicate comment...but I agree...Rosamunde Pilcher is great!
DeleteAlways good to see your garden !! This is a very spectacular year for flowers! Thanks for sharing the nut recipe! It will be on my to do list !
ReplyDeleteHope you like the nuts!! They do make great Hostess Gifts :-)) If you don't eat them first!!
