Glorious colours in Humble Bungalow Garden

Orange poppies
with
paper thin petals
waving in the breeze.

Pure white lilacs against a clear blue sky.

Weigela
a foamy pink and white flowering bush
below lies the stalwart pink ground cover "pride of London"
and below that the hardy Lady's Mantle which when in bloom is chartreuse green.

(succulents to the left in a planter)

The weaving path is lined with
Creamy Smilacena racemosa
Hostas
Pinky Pride of London
Ferns

Purple Alliums

The pink Madame Gregoire Staechelin roses have started blooming...

The climbing Royal Sunset Rose has a few blooms.
You may see those small dots of orange colour at the top of the lattice.
This vigorous rose has the most amazing fragrance and is a reliable supply of cut roses throughout the season.
There are 4 new white David Austin Roses below just getting established...
we planted the boxwood to line the edge of the bed.
I am very eager to see them bloom.

Our red chairs look so tempting
but they will have to wait as
there is a lot of work to do in the Humble Bungalow Garden.

I have yet to open this book which is a recent purchase.
It was recommended on several of the blogs that I regularly read.

The community of dedicated bloggers that I follow

Oh lovely garden! Victoria is always a little ahead of Vancouver. I'm having the art in the garden open weekend this weekend and there is only my Julia Childs rose in bloom. All others are still in tight bud. But there are irises and rhodos and my lilac, so loads of blooms. Funny how we seemed to have gone from winter to summer in one week this year. I do love stopping by your blog and do have some favourites. One girl I love is Julie from frogpondfarm.co.nz. She's absolutely lovely and charming and always takes the time to stop by my bog. Oh, and, she's coming to the UK for a visit early July and I'll be there too, so we get to meet! I'm very excited. Good luck with all the work in the garden. The poppies look amazing. I can't wait for one to open in my garden. Love the shock of the orange.

Art in your garden must be a popular event...now I wish I was over in Vancouver this weekend. Thank you for sharing the blog with us...it is a new one for me to go and visit!
The warmer weather and sunshine has made all the difference and the flowers have been responding beautifully!

Absolutely beautiful! Your garden looks spectacular - your deck and the rose when is full bloom must be wonderful. My accent color in the garden is red also - I love the pop of color it adds. All just lovely.

Oh! I haven't done the Artists in our Midst tour for a few years. It is lovely to see the art displayed in the artists' homes. I'll look at frogpondfarm too! I just planted the last plants in the parking lot garden. I put in an orange poppy as well. I hope that I get blooms this year. The blog that I probably learn the most from is The Vivienne Files which I know you already follow. I can go to my closet and put together quite a few capsule wardrobes due to Janice's great examples. That book looks beautiful but I have a lot of Paris books. I might buy it as a gift for my sister. Enjoy your garden!

The garden is absolutely stunning. One of the things I love most is the garden. I often look to see what you are growing as I have found that some of your combinations do well here in Australia where we live in a cold climate part. Gardens create such peace. There is a question, Gardeners are nice people or is it that gardening creates nice people.

Orange is perfection in poppies, I think, and this one is gorgeous in the sunshine. They remind me of my mother who grew them when I was a child. How lovely is your deck which I don't think I have seen before on your lovely blog. It is very elegant and suits the bungalow so very well. I always enjoy your blog and your take on homewares, fashion etc. Each blog I follow has something different to offer and I love them all. For tips on a stylish life, one favourite is Tamera Beardsley, who lives in California.

Just gorgeous! We are busy planting here now that the "ice saints" have passed. The weather immediately got hot, and I can't wait for it to bring us tomatoes.

We are enjoying this patch of warm weather and it feels great to tackle some of the pressing jobs in the garden...red accents work with the natural green foliage. I do love seeing creative gardeners and their choice of accents...purple and sunny yellow are very popular here too.

I enjoy Janice's blog very much and am amazed at how she manages to always put together a detailed post and her choice with clothing colours is fabulous!

Gardening is good for what ails us...it offers respite from our troubles and physical efforts exerted are healthy for our bodies...I find it is the most satisfying of hobbies.

Poppies reseed themselves so they are a very giving plant and bloom in very harsh areas...often with very little water which is wonderful.
Tamera has a gift with fashion and home decor...and I like her jewelry creations. I have read her blog for many years...she is quite lovely.

I must check out her blog...I do not read German but if there are translations available I will manage!

The tomatoes plants are coming along nicely in our greenhouse...
I loved those wonderfully sweet flavoured tomatoes in France...the markets were teeming with them in May when I was there!

Your gardens look amazing as usual Leslie! I just love that pink ground cover, and I must google it. I appreciate that you name the plants and flowers, as it really helps me to make a list of my favourites.

What a beautiful garden. I could take up residence quite happily. Here in the North of England we are way behind you after some hard late frosts but the acquilegias are treating us to an abundant display from white through to deep claret and cream. The hostas as usual never fail to provide all shades of green. I must find some pink ground cover, yours is beautiful.

Such lovely flowers! One good thing of our longer, cooler & wetter Spring is that the flowers here are glorious this year! In the past week I've managed a walk through Cabbagetown, a visit to the greenhouses at Allen Gardens and a visit to RGB to walk in the Lilac Glade - which is an amazing thing to do each Spring. I've also been o the AGO twice to see he Georgia O'Keeffe exhibit and her flower paintings are always my favourites.
As for favourite blogs - here are some that I love to follow.

Your garden is just lovely, and it thrives under your TLC. for cooking, I love Alexandra's Kitchen. I have been making lots of bread from her new cookbook. My family approves the hobby wholeheartedly.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

I hope it meets with his approval.
This sunny weather is certainly good for the soul!

The garden changes from year to year and we enjoy the space as often as we are able...much of the time we are on hands and knees tending to the beds!

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

The pride of London ground cover is great for keeping weeds down...it also is pretty as a filler not unlike baby's breath in bouquets.

hostess of the humble bungalow said...

Acquilegias have so many colour varieties...I quite like their wild habit and that they self seed is a bonus!

Thank you for sharing your favourite blogs...there are several new to me so I plan to pay them a visit.

You have the most beautiful garden, Leslie! All those plants look so healthy, and flowering in abundance. Yours is one of my favourite blogs, also Fiona Ferris's How to be Chic, and Elaine at Random Jottings of a Book and Opera Lover.

What a beautiful garden. The weather has been so lovely lately that everything is just popping colour! After seeing your arrangements with Lady's Mantle over the years, I want to get a few plants for our garden, too.
